Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved method and apparatus for the application of powdered resins to threaded fasteners. In accordance with the present invention, the powdered resin handling system used to apply, collect, recycle and make-up the resin is generally enclosed; that is, with the exception of the application of the resin to the fasteners, the resin is generally maintained within conduit, housings or hoppers that are not open to the surroundings. This tends to minimize discharge of resin into the areas surrounding the fastener processing equipment and also isolates the resin from external environmental conditions that tend to degrade the resin over time. In addition, the present invention introduces fresh, new or make-up resin in a manner that assures intimate and thorough intermixing of the new and recycled resin while minimizing the cost and complexity of the equipment employed for that purpose.

  • Patent number: 6358558
Abstract: A method and apparatus for feeding a treating agent to an apparatus (1, 2) employed in the treating of a paper or board web for applying the treating agent to the surface of the web being treated. The treating agent is prepared and then supplied to the apparatus used for applying the treating agent, into the applicator chamber thereof, wherefrom the treating agent is further applied to a moving surface. The treating agent is first supplied into a feed chamber (2) communicating with the applicator chamber, and the feed chamber (2) is provided with a shunt line (10, 11) serving to remove the excess amount of the treating agent supplied to the feed chamber (2) that is not adhered to the moving surface. A pressure measurement signal at a point (22) representing the internal pressure of the feed chamber is obtained, and the feed pressure of the treating agent is adjusted to a value causing the internal pressure of the feed chamber to attain its desired set value.

  • Patent number: 6245388
Abstract: A process and an apparatus are disclosed for coating at least one surface of an article such as a paper plate with a liquid coating. The surface to be coated is passed through a wave of liquid coating, such as an aqueous dispersion, followed by removal of the excess coating. The coating and coating removal steps are carried out in an environment which is vaporous with the vehicle of the liquid coating, which prevents premature drying of the coating and allows for a smooth, even application of the coating to the surface.

  • Patent number: 6214415
Abstract: A method applied in a coating process is to increase the recycling rate for coating materials. For this method, a jig with a special design is employed. The jig is a base-and-cover combination type and is separable. Using such a jig would enable powdered material sprayed on an object to mostly adhere thereon. There will be a small amount of coating material adhering on the jig in this improved process, however, most of which, in fact, would adhere to the cover of the jig. At the end of the process, the cover of the jig is separated from the base of the jig, and is transported to a coating material recycling process, in which the material adhering to the cover of the jig is recycled, and the base of the jig as well as the object is conveyed to proceed with a baking process.

  • Patent number: 6074700
Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating foreign material from coating mix flow circulating in the machine circulation of a coating station (7) in coaters used for coating a web of paper or board. Coating mix is conveyed from a tank (1) to a coating station, where it is applied to the surface of the web to be coated, and the excess of the coating mix conveyed to the coating station (7) is returned to the tank (1). The coating mix flow incoming from said tank (1) to the coating station is screened by at least one pressure screen (5) and the rejects fraction of the coating mix flow is discharged from the pressure screen (5). A portion of the coating mix flow circulating in the machine circulation is passed through a vibrating screen (13) and the accepts fraction of the vibrating screen is returned back to the machine circulation. The invention offers high efficiency in the removal of elongated foreign matter particles from the machine circulation of coating mix.
