Abstract: Processes and methods related to processing and hot working alloy ingots are disclosed. A metallic material layer is deposited onto at least a region of a surface of an alloy ingot before hot working the alloy ingot. The processes and methods are characterized by a reduction in the incidence of surface cracking of the alloy ingot during hot working.

According to the method by using the apparatus, the occurrence of partial uncoating or peeling of the coating and occurrence of cracks in the coating portion during drying after coating can be inhibited since the coating material can be applied thinly and uniformly on the outer peripheral surface, thereby the coating surface is smoothed.
Abstract: Disclosed is a surface-treated ceramic member which has a coating film-formed surface comprising a ceramic sintered body with a porosity of 1% or less and a sol-gel coating film of a silicon alkoxide compound polymer formed on at least a part of a ceramic sintered body, wherein the coating film and the surface of the body are coexistent in the coating film-formed surface. Specifically the area of the sol-gel coating film accounts for 5 to 80% of the total area of the coating film-formed surface. The surface-treated ceramic member has excellent corrosion resistance and is free from scattering of particles.

Abstract: A method of making a glass article with an anti-smudge surface includes providing a glass article with a target surface. The method includes providing a coating solution consisting essentially of a fluorosilane compound and a solvent that is miscible with the fluorosilane compound. A releasing sheet may be utilized to make the thickness of the polyurethane foamed layer uniform. Also, provided herein is a layered sheet produced by the above process. The polyurethane foamed layer may have spherical fine cells having an average cell diameter of 20 to 300 ?m. The polyurethane foamed layer may have a specific gravity of 0.2 to 0.5. The polyurethane foamed layer may also have a Asker C hardness of 10 to 50 degrees.

Abstract: In the present invention, an insulating material is applied onto a substrate in a coating treatment unit to form a coating insulating film. The substrate is heated in the heating processing unit, whereby the coating insulating film is hardened partway. A brush is then pressed against the front surface of the coating insulating film in a planarization unit and moved along the front surface of the coating insulating film, thereby planarizing the coating insulating film. The substrate is then heated to completely harden the coating insulating film. According to the present invention, the coating film can be planarized without using the CMP technology.

Abstract: The invention provides methods of nanolithography and products therefor and produced thereby. In particular, the invention provides a nanolithographic method referred to as high force nanografting (HFN). HFN utilizes a tip (e.g., a scanning probe microscope (SPM) tip such as an atomic force microscope (AFM) tip) to pattern a substrate passivated with a resist. In the presence of a patterning compound, the tip is used to apply a high force to the substrate to remove molecules of the resist from the substrate, whereupon molecules of the patterning compound are able to attach to the substrate the form the desired pattern.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing sharp spine-shaped projections on ceramic includes forming projections by applying a first soil water on the outside of the half-dried ceramic, forming projection roots; and growing projections by applying a second soil water on a plurality of the projection roots fifty to one hundred times using the brush and letting the projections dry at 15˜20° C., and 60˜70% of relative humidity for 15˜25 minutes in the shade after the application. Bright and mysterious various ceramic patterns are achieved by controlling water content of a first soil water to control projections density, controlling the number of a second soil water applications to control projections' size, selecting the direction of applications to form projections bent toward various directions and mixing pigments with soil water at proper time with proper mixing ratios to form projections with various colors.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for sealing pinholes in an electroless metal coating, said method comprising: (a) coating a substrate with an electroless metal coating layer to provide a coated article comprising an electroless metal coating in contact with the surface of the substrate, said electroless metal coating being characterized by the presence of pinhole imperfections which allow fluid communication between the substrate and the environment; (b) applying a layer of a curable epoxy sealant over the electroless metal coating layer and filling the pinhole imperfections; (c) curing the curable epoxy sealant to provide a cured epoxy overcoating layer; and (d) removing a substantial portion of the cured epoxy overcoating layer to provide an article comprising an electroless metal coating which is substantially free of pinhole imperfections allowing fluid communication between the substrate and the environment.

Abstract: Disclosed is a floor covering having an embossed polyurethane foam backing layer and methods of making and using same. A bottom surface of the backing layer can be thermo-embossed with a predetermined pattern, and the bottom surface of the backing layer can define at least one fluid pathway in communication with a side edge of the floor covering. The floor covering can also have a layer of skid-resistant material connected to the bottom surface of the backing layer.

Abstract: In an aspect of the coating method according to the present invention, the lower limit decompression degree PS1 at which a seam trouble occurs is obtained from the formula of the viscocapillary model. According to the aspect of the present invention, coating is performed by setting the Pb so as to satisfy PS1<P0?Pb?PS1+0.2, and therefore, stepped unevenness can be effectively suppressed so that a seam trouble does not occur. It goes without saying that the aspect of the present invention can be applied to high viscosity/thick film coating, but it is effective especially in the case where a coating solution with low viscosity (for example, 0.005 Pa·s or lower) is coated to be an ultra-thin film (for example, 10 ?m or less in the wet film thickness) where stepped unevenness easily occurs.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium with high reliability is provided, which can form a thin magnetic layer having a dry film thickness of, for example, 60 nm or less while the occurrence of defects on the surface is suppressed. Abstract: A chemical composition and method for repairing a thermal barrier coating on a component designed for use in a hostile thermal environment, such as turbine, combustor and augmentor components of a gas turbine engine. The method repairs a thermal barrier coating on a component that has suffered localized damage to the thermal barrier coating. After cleaning the surface area of the component exposed by the localized spallation, a paste-like mixture of a ceramic composition comprising ceramic powders and nano-sized ceramic materials in a binder, further including an accelerant, is applied to the surface area of the component, and is optionally smoothed using mechanical means. The composition is then allowed to dry and cure to form a dried coating having polymeric characteristics. Upon subsequent heating, the dried coating reacts to produce a glassy ceramic repair coating.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a compressor slider includes a slider preform manufacturing step, a resin coating step, and a machining step. In the slider preform manufacturing step, an iron slider preform in which at least one property selected from the tensile strength and the tensile modulus of elasticity is greater than that of flake graphite cast iron is manufactured using a prescribed mold. In the resin coating step, the slider preform is not machined, but the resin coating layer is formed on all or a part of the slider preform. In the machining step, only the resin coating layer is machined, and a completed slider is obtained.
Abstract: A cooled hybrid structure is provided for deployment within a gas turbine engine. In one embodiment, the cooled hybrid structure includes a woven oxide fiber sheet and an insulative oxide coating. The woven oxide fiber sheet includes an outer cold wall and an inner hot wall, which is integrally woven with the outer cold wall and which cooperates therewith to define a plurality of elongated cooling channels extending within the woven oxide fiber sheet. A plurality of impingement apertures is formed through the outer cold wall and conducts airflow into the plurality of elongated cooling channels and against the inner hot wall to convectively cool the woven oxide fiber sheet. A plurality of effusion channels is formed through the inner hot wall and through the insulative oxide coating and conducts airflow through the insulative oxide coating to provide convective cooling thereof.
Abstract: Sealing a thermal spray coating with an extensively diluted sealant, such as a thermosetting epoxy resin, allows the sealant to more effectively protect the coating against leakage, wear and corrosion. The dilution of the sealant is believed to enhance penetration of the sealant into the coating. Such sealed coatings are useful in oilfield applications.
Abstract: A radiation-curable composition comprising a radiation-curable compounds a free acid and a halogenated polyolefin is disclosed. The compositions are useful in the repair of damaged motor vehicle body parts.
Abstract: A method and class of bond coat is provided herein that physically and chemically bonds solid layer lubricants and other functional coatings to a substrate by burnishing, for example, selected soft materials, including oxides such as antimony trioxide which is seen as a major improvement over conventional bonding or coating methods. The process is non-vacuum at ambient temperatures, no binders, adhesives, curing or baking. Lubricant performance can be enhanced by orders of magnitude compared to when the bond coat and burnishing process are not applied. The method is inexpensive, environmentally friendly, applicable to any substrate material, and scalable.

Abstract: Disclosed are fiber coating sizing applicator apparatus having a member to remove unused sizing and foreign objects from the fiber coating element of the applicator on a continuous or intermittent basis. Also disclosed are sizing applicators having as part of the drive, a servo motor for reduced variation in sizing application. Unused sizing is filtered to remove foreign objects and returned the applicator right away, or stored in a temperature controlled area until ready to feed back to a sizing applicator. Also disclosed are methods of using the sizing applicator apparatus to produce sized fibers. The apparatus and methods of the invention produce a substantial reduction in the fiber break rate, sizing usage and applicator maintenance.

Abstract: An intermittent coating member 10 delivers resin intermittently from a coating die 20 onto a length of base film 41 fed forth from a feeding member 40 to form intermittent coats of a coating film 43 on the base film 41. The coating film 43 is transferred to a transfer member 44 that actuates in synchronism with the coating action for the coating film 43, and is given a transfer by moulds 45 fixed on a mould roll 46. After the transfer, the coating film 43 is cured by an ultraviolet irradiation device 48 and wound up by a winding member 49.
Abstract: An imprint apparatus which includes an imprint head configured to hold a mold, and performs an imprint process including dispensing of a resin to a shot region on a substrate and pressing of the mold and the dispensed resin with each other, comprises a controller configured to control an order of the imprint process for a plurality of selected shot regions on the substrate, and a first dispenser and a second dispenser configured to dispense the resin, wherein the first dispenser is arranged on a side of a first direction with respect to the imprint head, and the second dispenser is arranged on a side of a second direction opposite to the first direction with respect to the imprint head.
