  • Patent number: 6833398
Abstract: Autodeposited coatings useful for protecting metal surfaces and in production of rubber-to-metal composites are obtained by curing adducts based on epoxy resins which are adhered to the metal surface. One or more epoxy resins, such as for example, the combination of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A and a flexibilizing epoxy resin, may be prereacted to form an adduct of higher average molecular weight than the starting epoxy resins. Said adduct may then be dispersed in water, with the resulting dispersion being used in an autodeposition bath composition.

A coating film of an azole-copper complex compound formed by a contact with an aqueous solution containing an azole compound in an range from 0.1 mass % to 15 mass % and an organic acid in a range from 1 mass % to 80 mass % is formed on the metal layer surface, and the metal layer adheres to the resin layer via the coating film of the azole-copper complex compound. Thereby, the present invention provides a laminate with improved adhesion between a surface of copper or a copper alloy and resin in a multilayered printed circuit board, and also a method of manufacturing the laminate.

Abstract: Methods and materials for sealing and insulating a fuel cell plate are disclosed. The disclosed process includes applying a coating precursor on at least one surface of the fuel cell plate, and curing the coating precursor by exposure to radiation. Disclosed coating precursors include those containing an acrylated oligomer and a photoinitiator, which can polymerize in response to ultraviolet or electron beam radiation. Other disclosed coating precursors are those that can polymerize in response to exposure to infrared radiation or to heating, and include epoxy nitrile resins and organopolysiloxane resins. The disclosed processes and coating precursors provide certain advantages over conventional methods and designs for insulating and sealing fuel cell plates since the disclosed coating precursors can be quickly and precisely applied to fuel cell plates by, for example, screening printing.
