Abstract: A metal structural tie strap for fastening two or more nailable wood members to one another; the strap being formed with nail openings which are equidistant from one another and fall within nail holding means adjacent the edges of the strap. The edges of the strap transverse to the longitudinal axis of the strap are non-linear, forming a pattern in which the leading edge is a reverse image of the trailing edge.
Abstract: A structural member comprising a flat strip of web of material having a plurality of slots formed at spaced intervals along each edge of the strip, the inner portion of each slot being of greater dimension than the outer portion and formed to the desired degree of curvature in the plane of the strip.
Abstract: It has been discovered that a series of grooves in the surface of amorphous magnetic alloy strip can significantly reduce core losses if the grooves are generally transverse to the direction of magnetization. The grooves are between 0.1 and 10.0 of the strip thickness in depth and are preferably on both sides of the strip and spaced about 0.02-2 centimeters apart.
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for forming electrical splices from a continuous supply band. The apparatus includes feeding means for feeding a preselected length of the supply band to a forming station; clinching means positioned beneath the forming station; forming means for forming said preselected length into a generally U-shaped configuration; driving means for driving the U-shaped configuration into the clinching means; and operating means for simultaneously moving the forming means and the driving means in a forward direction for a preselected length of travel sufficient to effect formation of said U-shaped configuration by said forming means and for thereafter moving only said driving means in said forward direction to drive said U-shaped configuration into said clinching means. A removable container is also disclosed which houses the continuous supply band of electrically conductive material from which the splices are formed in the apparatus with which the container is associated.
Abstract: There is described a deadplate comprising a support having a plurality of spaced channels in which are retained article-contacting strips of a material which stand proud of lands between the channels, the material being lubricious and of low thermal conductivity.
Abstract: A carrier tape (20) is provided for assembling components to make semiconductor devices. The tape (20) is made from soft, copper foil (21). Patterns (27) containing clusters (24) of inner leads (28) and (30) are accurately formed into tape (20) for bonding to chips (52).Tape (20) is indexed for bonding the free ends (36) of inner leads (28) and (30) to pads (54) of chip (52). Then tape (20) is indexed for bonding fixed ends (34) of leads (28) and (30) to stiff outer leads (86).Leads (28) and (30) in cluster (24) are deformed into a precise bell-like shape called a "bug" with chip (52) riding horizontally on top of the bell. Bugging develops flexural and tensile stresses and bonding causes thermal stresses in leads (28) and (30). Such stresses can shift or twist bug (51); warp the structural margin (26) and holes (22) of tape (20), and they can distort adjacent lead clusters (24) on tape (20).One or more stress relief sites (39) are provided in leads (28) and (30) to uniformly control such stresses.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel sheet adapted to be adhered to and form the outer layer of a wood article, said sheet being made from a furnish comprising, for each 100 parts by weight, from about 10 to 25 parts synthetic pulp, 10 to 25 parts by weight mineral fiber, 0.1 to 2 parts size, 0.1 to 2 parts wet strength agent, and 79.8 to 46 parts wood fiber and to laminates comprising a wood core and said sheet adhered to at least one surface of said core.
Abstract: Permanent repair of a rusted pinchweld in the windshield securing channel of an automobile is effected by replacement of the rusted portion with a highly malleable repair panel of novel design. The repair panel has a generally Z-shaped cross section and dimensions compatible with the pinchweld of an automobile. The panel is secured to unrusted pinchweld by any suitable means and rendered leakproof by suitable body repair procedures. The reconstructed pinchweld offers a base for windshield replacement closely approximating the original construction. Further degeneration is checked by rendering the entire repaired structure leakproof with proper installation techniques.
Abstract: A flexible string of interconnected sheet metal clips of the type which are adapted to hold the end bars of a sinuous or zigzag cushion-supporting springs on the wooden frame of an article of furniture. The clips are disposed in side-by-side relationship and adjacent clips in the string are connected together by a thin flexible web, the thickness of which is reduced by a swaging operation, and which serves to maintain such clips slightly spaced apart.
Abstract: A material suitable for making combustion chambers for gas turbine engines comprises at least two abutting sheets of perforated material, the perforation being out of alignment and interconnected by a series of channels formed on one or both of the abutting surfaces of abutting sheets. The total cross-sectional area of the perforations in at least one sheet is at least double the total cross-sectional area of the perforations in the remaining sheets or sheets per unit area.
Abstract: An electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding device for use in supporting members that receive enclosure covers of electrical or electronic instruments. The EMI device comprises a strip of metal having first spring means including first contact means which contain the device in position in a groove in the supporting member and provide electrical contact therewith and second spring means against which an edge of an enclosure member disposed in the groove engages thereby providing electrical contact therewith and securely maintaining the enclosure member in position.
Abstract: A lead frame assembly of indefinite length having a pair of spaced parallel carrier strips, collapsible rungs extending between the strips at regular intervals along the length of the assembly and a number of leads extending inwardly from the opposed edges of the strip between the rungs. The rungs are collapsed inwardly to seat the ends of the leads against the sides of circuit modules previously positioned between the ends of the leads. The lead ends are seated in recesses in the circuit modules and are subsequently soldered to metalized surfaces on the modules. Following the bending of the leads, the carrier strips and rungs are cut away.
