Abstract: With the invention a metallic flat product can be systematically made available with such a fine, stochastic or quasi-stochastic surface texture that after a typical automotive paint application it is only minimally perceptible, if at all, by the human eye. At the same time, in the case of a surface topography constituted according to the invention, the transition between the peak plateaus and the valleys takes place via steep flanks. In this way, it is achieved that the morphology of the sheet metal surface is practically independent of the actual depth of the valleys. As a result therefore, the morphology of the sheet metal surface of a metallic flat product according to the invention is also independent of the skin-pass rate, which is obtained when the fine metal texture is produced by skin-pass rolling.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method for producing metal panels. First a metal melt is produced, then a substrate, which has a lower temperature than the metal melt, is brought into contact with it so that some of the metal melt crystallises on the substrate. The substrate is then moved relative to the metal melt so that a metal foil is formed on the substrate. Finally the metal foil is divided into metal panels. According to the invention the substrate comprises grooves which are used to fit partitions between the panels, as well as grooves which are filled with liquid metal. The latter grooves provide a reinforcement for the metal panels. In addition a pattern of recesses and/or elevations can be provided in the substrate so that the same pattern is formed in the metal foil. The pattern may consist, for example, of parallel grooves which ensure that the surface of the foil is enlarged. In the case of solar cells this results in greater efficiency.

Abstract: The invention relates to cams for constructed camshafts, said cams formed from at least one profiled sheet metal strip (2) produced by rolling and having a thickness which varies in the longitudinal direction thereof and two end regions (2a). Said profiled sheet metal strip (2) is bent or deformed to form the cam blank (1) in such a way that the end regions (2a) thereof are welded to the end regions (2b) of at least one other bent or deformed metal strip (2). The cam blank (1) has recess (A) for receiving a carrying shaft (11), said recess (A) having an inner contour region which is essentially circular or partially circular. The aim of the invention is to create one such cam in such a way that it requires as little raw material as possible, the usable width of the running surface is as large as possible, and it can be connected to the carrying shaft in an especially simple and cost-effective manner by a non-positive and/or positive joining method.

Abstract: The invention provides spray coatings to achieve circumferentially non-uniform seal clearances in turbomachines. In steam and gas turbines it is desirable to assemble the machines with elliptical seal clearances to compensate for expected casing distortion, rotordynamics or phenomena that cause circumferentially non-uniform rotor-stator rubs. The claimed invention allows the casing hardware to be fabricated round, and a spray coating is applied to the radially inner surface such that the coating thickness varies circumferentially, providing the desired non-uniform rotor-stator clearance during assembly.

Abstract: A core metal insert is provided for reinforcing a weatherseal. The core metal insert has a generally U-channel shaped cross-section and has first and second tines extending from a longitudinally extending backbone strip. The tines are bent to provide the U-channel shaped cross-section. The backbone strip is preferably double-coined to provide first and second grooves, one along each face of the backbone strip. Double coining results in greater length extension of the core metal insert, and also provides for more reliable bending of the tines which are less prone to snap off due to bending stress. Preferably, the backbone strip is provided with a plurality of score marks on both of its opposing faces to facilitate reliable and consistent severance of the backbone strip along the score marks to provide discrete structural staples in the weatherseal.
