  • Patent number: 6165626
Abstract: A laminated magnetic core assembly and method of manufacture having at least one notch formed along opposite sides of a strip material from which the laminations are formed. The notches on the opposite sides of the strip are punched out and separated from each other by a fixed distance. The notches minimize the amount of scrap material by avoiding the need for increasing the width of the strip from which a narrower strip having precision cut sides is formed.

  • Patent number: 5130207
Abstract: High strength, high precision thin-walled cartridge cases are manufactured from a metal of interest selected from low alloy and carbon steels utilizing an extrusion and heat treating process. The cartridge blanks are extruded to a length greater than that necessary for the finished cartridge case and are provided with one or more peripheral grooves close to the open end of the extruded cartridge blank to prevent warpage during subsequent heat treatment.

  • Patent number: 5106699
Abstract: A simple cylindrical steel element, having a tapered portion at an insertion end and a plug of a difficult-to-machine material securely attached therein, is forcibly inserted into a previously formed hole, e.g., in a hard inner layer of a multilayer wall of a safe for containing valuables. To facilitate intromission of the tapered end of the device into the hole, all layers except the hard inner layer are machined to slightly enlarge the hole originally formed therethrough. In the preferred embodiment, markings in the form of regularly spaced circumferential grooves are provided along the length of the device and are readily utilizable to determine where the device should be cut so that, by the application of a sharp force as from a hammer, the tapered end of the device, with the hard-to-machine plug embedded therein, is firmly lodged into the hard inner layer. Welding material is provided thereafter to firmly connect an outer end of the device with the material of an outer layer of the wall.

  • Patent number: 5019455
Abstract: A mold for the casting of aluminum sow ingots includes a mold box having a bottom wall and side walls that define a generally rectangular mold cavity. The bottom wall includes a central raised longitudinally extending protrusion and side longitudinally extending protrusions adapted to define corresponding depressions in the ingot bottom. The side depressions establish ledges for receiving a pair of fork lift blades or tines entering the ledges from either transverse side of the ingot perpendicular to the ledges. A pair of transversely extending protrusions in the mold bottom wall establish corresponding transverse depressions in the mold bottom that are perpendicular to the central longitudinal depression and equispaced from the central transverse axis by a distance enabling the pair of fork lift blades to enter the transverse depressions from a direction perpendicular to either of the longitudinally extending ingot sides to provide a dual entry feature for ease of handling.

Abstract: The primary blank 1, which is to be transformed into a finished rail by means of universal passes, edging passes and a finishing pass, is characterized by a symmetric `.UPSILON.` section the thickness of which always varies in the same way. It is designed to be shaped exclusively in open grooves. This primary blank 1 is roughed in a specific manner in a universal stand and undergoes a strong forging which improves the quality of the finished rail. A secondary blank is then formed which has a special shape allowing the production by universal rolling of a very accurate profile of the finished rail.
