  • Patent number: 7317269
Abstract: The present invention provides a simple and robust design implementing an easily accessible external terminal connection point for supplying drive current to an AC motor. An embodiment of the invention is directed to an insertion plug and a conductor formed within the insertion plug. Specifically, the conductor acts as a current bus through an insertion aperture defined in a motor housing. The interior end of the conductor acts as an interior connection terminal for an AC phase coil, whereas the exterior end of the conductor is configured to accept an external motor drive source power cable. Advantageously, the modularity of the insertion plug design and a modified insertion housing aperture stamping program provide significant flexibility with regard to placement of the connection terminal. This aspect of the invention allows the connection terminals, as well as a corresponding motor housing to be customized for pre-existing mechanical designs and assemblies.

Abstract: A method of inserting a terminal stud adapter section of a terminal stud into the radial bore of a rotor, involving a tool, which includes an elongated tool body having a head at one end from which a pair of pins project. The head is preferably plated with copper. The head is received in the recess of a stud adapter section with the pins engaging in apertures in the adapter section. By inserting the adapter section in the radial bore of a rotor, the adapter section can be threaded to the bore copper. Upon removal of the tool from the recess of the adapter section, an outer section of the terminal stud is received within the radial bore and an inner end thereof makes electrical connection with the adapter section.

Abstract: A forged terminal body receives a resin knob assembled without pre-positioning. Anti-slip projections on the terminal body penetrate the knob during assembly to resist torque during connection. The anti-slip projections have asymmetric triangular cross sections with a steeper side of the triangle facing in the tightening direction. In one embodiment of the invention, the anti-slip projections are prismatic projections radially arranged on a collar. In a second embodiment of the invention, the anti-slip projections extend from the collar along a terminal body upon which the resin knob is press fitted.

Abstract: An insulative circuit board receives a forged terminal and a simplified terminal plate, inserted through a through hole and guided by insertion slots, to form a complete terminal connector. The terminal plate firmly fixes to the insulative circuit board by locking into integrally formed locking steps. The terminal is retained by the snap-in terminal plate. and preventive elements formed integrally with the circuit board. Preventive elements prevent unexpected disassembly when the terminal and the terminal plate loose threaded engagement and eliminates the need for after-integration processing. A guiding element, integral with the terminal, guides the terminal into threaded engagement with the terminal plate. The guiding element also prevents damage to a terminal plate screw hole and speeds assembly.
