    Abstract: This invention relates to a thin reinforced nonwoven fabric having ridges and grooves for fire blocking an article and articles containing such fabrics. When exposed to heat or flame, the fabric is capable of increasing to a thickness that is at least 1.5 times its original thickness. The fabric comprises an open mesh scrim having a having crimped, heat-resistant organic fibers compressed thereon and held in a compressed state by a thermoplastic binder, on which is imparted a ridge and groove structure. When subjected to high heat or flame, the binder in the structure softens, releasing the restrained crimped fibers and any ridges and grooves and allowing the thickness of the fabric to increase.

    Abstract: The invented product is a fleecebacked laminate that is suitable as a single-ply fleecebacked roofing membrane. The laminate consists of the following: 1) a thermoplastic reinforced planar sheet, 2) a needle punched fleece formed on both sides of the thermoplastic reinforced planar sheet, and 3) a thermoplastic polymeric layer extruded onto one side of the fleece. The fleece is formed by needle punching fibers through the reinforced planar sheet. The reinforced planar sheet serves as a common supporting base the resulting two-side fleece. The thermoplastic polymeric layer is embedded with one side of the fleece fibers. The thermoplastic polymeric layer serves as the top layer of the roofing membrane, and the second side of exposed fleece serves as a felt. The thermoplastic polymeric layer is preferably comprised of an extruded PVC substrate, compounded to have excellent weather resistance, printability and to be nonflammable. The fleece fibers are preferably composed of polyester.

    Abstract: Disclosed are cleaning sheets having at least two regions, where the regions are distinguished by basis weight. In particular, the cleaning sheet comprises one or more high basis weight regions having a basis weight of from about 30 to about 120 g/m2 and one or more low basis weight regions, wherein the low basis weight region(s) have a basis weight that is not more than about 80% of the basis weight of the high basis weight region(s). Also disclosed are cleaning sheets having substantial macroscopic three-dimensionality, in addition to having multiple basis weights. Optionally, the macroscopically three-dimensional cleaning sheets can comprise a scrim material, which when heated and then cooled, contracts so as to provide a macroscopic three-dimensional structure. Macroscopic three-dimensionality is described in terms of “average height differential”, as well as the “average peak-to-peak” distance.

    Abstract: The present invention is a durable composite consisting of a polyester knitted fabric and an extruded film that are heat laminated together without the use of additional adhesive. The open-mesh structure of the fabric, when combined with the film, results in improved sound dissipation for the composite as compared with conventional textile headliners. Because both the fabric and the film components have flame retardant constituents, the resulting composite is capable of meeting even the most stringent of flammability requirements. An optional backing layer may be added to the film layer to create a three-layer composite, which may be suited for certain applications.

    Abstract: A laminated composite suitable for use in medical products such as tapes and wraps. The composite includes, for example, a first nonwoven fiber layer, an elastic layer, a melt blown adhesive fiber layer, and a second nonwoven fiber layer. A scrim layer serves as a deadstop, or stretch limit, to prevent over stretching. The non-woven fiber layer(s) and/or the scrim layer form suitable loops for a hook and loop fastening system. The scrim layer in some embodiments is employed to make the composite finger tearable. The melt blown adhesive layer, nonwoven web layer and elastic layer form a breathable, porous elastic composite. Methods of manufacturing the composite are also disclosed.
