  • Patent number: 12070832
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for fine machining a cylindrical workpiece surface of a workpiece blank by means of a fine machining tool. Said method comprising the following steps: generating a relative rotational movement between a tool and a workpiece blank about a machining axis which is concentric to a cylindrical workpiece surface of the workpiece blank; generating a relative feed rate between the tool and the workpiece blank along the machining axis; detecting an actual value of a process variable, which is a function of a relative force between the tool and the workpiece blank and which can assume a plurality of process variable values; and continuously controlling the process variable by changing the relative feed rate in such a way that the more the relative feed rate changes, the more the actual value of the process variable deviates from a desired value of the process variable.

Abstract: A honing processing technology for making uniform the load applied to honing grindstones by cooperating the reciprocal motion of the honing grindstones with the feeding and expanding motion at high precision by a specified relation. Servo motors are used as drive sources respectively for spindle reciprocal drive part and grindstone depth cutting part, and these two servo motors are mutually cooperated, and the feeding and expanding motion of the honing grindstones is controlled to be synchronized and tuned with the ascending and descending (reciprocal) motion of the honing tool so that the processing load applied to the honing grindstones may be averaged. Hence, without modifying the basis existing mechanical elements, the load applied to the honing grindstones may be averaged, and the honing process may be stabilized in precision and enhanced in precision.

  • Patent number: 6824451
Abstract: A process is described for the chemical mechanical machining of semiconductor wafers. A plurality of surfaces are successively subjected to a polishing step, in which they are brought into contact with a polishing device. The polishing device contains a polishing-grain carrier with polishing grains, and the surfaces are moved relative to the polishing device. Material is removed from the surface by the polishing grains, which are fixed in the polishing-grain carrier and may become partially detached from the carrier material during the polishing operation. In each case one or more polishing steps is preceded by a conditioning step for regeneration of the polishing device. The polishing device and a conditioning surface of strong structure are brought into contact with one another and moved relative to one another, with the result that starting states of the polishing-device surface at a beginning of the individual polishing steps are comparable with one another.

  • Patent number: 6102787
Abstract: A sanding apparatus is disclosed which includes a motor and mechanical drive system for imparting rotational and oscillator motion to an output shaft thereof. The motor shaft extends upwardly through a worktable. In one embodiment, the sanding apparatus is convertible between two or more modes of operation. In a spindle sanding mode, a sanding spindle is coupled to the motor output shaft, such that the spindle rotates and oscillates with respect to the worktable. The belt/pulley assembly includes a drive drum and a driven drum about which a sanding belt is entwined. When operated in belt sanding mode, the entire belt/pulley assembly, including the drive drum and the driven drum oscillate up and down with respect to the worktable. In an edge sanding mode of operation, the worktable is articulated so that at least a portion thereof is angularly adjustable with respect to the belt/pulley system.

  • Patent number: 5681210
Abstract: A honing tool for elliptical bores uses a unique rotary to linear to radial translation mechanism to translate the primary rotary motion of the drive shaft into axial motion of rods and sleeves within the drive shaft, which ultimately wedge the honing stones out, and pull them rigorously back in, in the desired elliptical pattern, with no loss of bore accuracy. A cam sleeve rotating with the drive shaft has undulating cam grooves that push and pull a pair of cam followers together and apart with every quarter turn. The cam followers shift a rod and sleeve up and down to wedge the honing stones in and out. The shape of the cam groove and the angle of the wedges are predetermined so as to create the proper elliptical pattern.

  • Patent number: 5655955
Abstract: In place of conventional machining of cylinder paths or tracks of piston engines, a honing machining without a rotary component is performed at least as a final machining operation so that the remaining small honing tracks are directed longitudinally and consequently permit an improved running-in behavior in conjunction with the piston rings. A preferred honing tool this has honing segments taking up a large circumferential portion and which are preferably resiliently constructed in Such a way that they automatically adapt to the cylinder path. A coating of components in the vicinity or working chambers, such as internal combustion chambers, e.g. of piston rings, comprises a chemically inert, anti-adhesive metal, such as e.g. niobium or zirconium. It is applied in a target process in vacuo and has a small thickness of approximately 8 micrometers.
