  • Patent number: 7628677
Abstract: An automatic insulation block milling machine is disclosed. The machine combines a series of operations into a single, automatic, production-line machine. Blocks of rigid insulation material, such as cellular glass blocks, are fed into the automated machine. The blocks are first placed on an automatic programmed moving conveyor belt and are first cut on a pre-determined angle developed from the horizontal and vertical centerline of the block. This cut is made by an angled, vertical band saw mounted with its blade in the center of the moving conveyor, thus producing one angled side on each of the two cut blocks. The remaining three primary sides of the cut blocks are machined to create curved sectional blocks that are used to cover the outer surface of large bore pipe systems or other cylindrical items such as tanks.

  • Patent number: 6468133
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for treating the surface of a fibrous web by mechanical grinding. According to the invention, the grinding is performed at substantially dry state by removing only the higher parts of the paper surface without substantially increasing the density of the web. By reducing the roughness of the surface by a maximum of 90%, the strength properties of the web remain essentially unchanged or they are even improved. Thus, when the roughness of the surface is reduced by about 40 to 60%, the tear strength increases with more that 5% in comparison to an untreated web. Papers and boards treated by the present method can be used for printing, packaging and wrapping.

Abstract: There is provided at least one of a moving device for moving a graining brush in the width direction of aluminum web and a turning device for turning the graining brush so that the graining brush can be placed obliquely against a transporting direction of the aluminum web. By moving the graining brush periodically in the width direction of the aluminum web, the entire graining brush uniformly comes into contact with the aluminum web. By turning the graining brush to place it obliquely against the transporting direction of the aluminum web, the entire graining brush can always come into contact with the aluminum web. Accordingly, the abrasion in the bristles of the graining brush is maintained uniform.

Abstract: This invention provides an improved machine for finishing the edges of glass or other brittle materials. The machine is distinguished by its few moving parts, and its ease of maintenance. The edge-finishing machine includes a main conveyor section including two toothed main belts that grip and convey the glass or other material to be finished past grinding or polishing wheels, or other means for finishing the edges of the material. These main conveyor belts are synchronously driven, each by a separate motor or other power transmission unit. The main conveyor section of the machine also includes means to tension the main belts, preferably including non-rotating returns made from durable, low-friction material such as ultra-high molecular weight plastic.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing wire or needles having a taper point and mechanically drilled suture mounting holes in the proximal ends. Needle or wire blanks are cut from a roll of wire and mounted to a carrier strip. The carrier strip and needles are moved through a succession of forming and trimming and grinding stations. The blanks are coined in a coining die to produce lateral wings of constant thickness. The blanks are preferably rotated in the strip while being ground. The strip and needle blanks are then moved to a bank of at least two drills wherein the proximal suture mounting ends of the needles are drilled.

  • Patent number: 5759089
Abstract: A surface finishing apparatus for in-line outer surface finishing of elongate cylindrical tubing. The tubing, such as tubing, is fed onto an elongate mandrel and through the finishing apparatus from an infeed to an outfeed position and rotated on the mandrel on its longitudinal axis. The outer surface of the tubing is finish treated as the tubing is fed through the apparatus while being supported on the mandrel. The finishing apparatus includes a rotatable finishing wheel having a finish-treating peripheral surface for being applied in an in-line orientation against the outer surface of the tubing as the tubing is simultaneously fed and rotated through the finishing apparatus. The wheel is mounted on an axis of rotation which is variable within a predetermined range of motion from one side to the other of the longitudinal axis of the tubing and oscillates back and forth within the predetermined range of motion while in continuous contact with the tubing.
