  • Patent number: 5609515
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a profiler device having a linear drive mechanism with enhanced tool holder support to effectively guide the substantially linear reciprocating movement of the tool holder so to maintain accuracy during machining operations and to extend the life of the tool and the device. The linear drive mechanism includes a reciprocating sleeve guided for substantially linear movement in a main guide sleeve, which is fixed to a profiler housing. The main guide sleeve includes a square socket formed in one end for receiving a square end of the tool holder. The surfaces of the square socket and the square end slidably engage one another for guiding and supporting the tool holder. The square end of the tool holder also includes a central bore which receives with a friction fit one end of reciprocating sleeve for being driven linearly with the reciprocating sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5607343
Abstract: A vibration stabilizer is provided for a power tool such as a sander or the like which has a pivotally oscillating driveshaft for supporting a tool head. The tool is provided with an elongate body having an internal cavity aligned along a longitudinal axis for receiving a drive motor therein. A driveshaft is pivotally supported upon the elongate body rotatable about a pivot axis. The drive motor operatively engages the driveshaft to cause the driveshaft to pivotally oscillate within a limited angular range when the drive motor is energized. Relative vibration between the tool head and the elongate body is minimized by an elastic ring which extends about the driveshaft and is interposed between the tool head and the elongate body. The elastic ring is loaded in compression axially biasing the tool head and the attached driveshaft in a direction away from the elongate body.

  • Patent number: 5605500
Abstract: A vacuum attachment assembly is provided for use in combination with a corner sanding tool comprising a replaceable sander block of resilient foam material having a transverse cross section of the form of an isosceles triangle. The block is removably mounted on a carrier member which is inserted into a close-fitting chamber within the block body through a narrow entrance passage, the carrier being connected to a handle. The vacuum attachment comprises a C-shaped body having two parallel end portions extending from a central portion, and the sander block is of sufficient length that it must be compressed somewhat longitudinally for it to be inserted into the assembly, which is thereby frictionally retained under the resilience of the sander block body material. The attachment central portion has two parallel side walls which are butted by the resilient sander block to establish an air-tight, air-receiving plenum chamber between the attachment member and the sander block.

Abstract: A power tool, which is preferably configured as a right-angle grinder, has a motor-driven hollow spindle to drive a tool, which is fastened between a clamping flange and a counterflange by means of a quick clamping device via a tension spindle, coaxial with the hollow spindle, that is tensioned in the axial direction by means of elastic elements and is displaceable in the axial direction relative to the hollow spindle, by means of a clamping lever, between a clamped position in which the tool is nonrotatably retained between the flanges, and a released position. The clamping lever is mechanically coupled to the motor switch by means of a link rod in such a way that the clamping lever can be moved into the released position only when the motor is switched off. This rules out improper operation and any potential damage to the power tool.

Abstract: A miniature motorized hand held dental saw wherein, like with a coping saw, the axis of rotation of the handle of the dental saw is tangent with the outer diameter of the blade. This important characteristic, combined with the use of a flexible blade, enables the operator to change, as needed, the direction of the cut without any snagging or binding effects. The dental saw is composed of a main steel body on which are attached three flanged Teflon.TM. coated bearings that support and guide a 0.004 thick annular diamond coated blade. The rotation of the blade, on these flanged bearings, is created by a drive assembly consisting of two opposite wheels, a drive wheel and a follower wheel, each wheel composed of a hub on which is fitted a neoprene o-ring. The opposite o-rings create an equal pressure on both faces of the blade which they make rotate. The power is transmitted to the assembly by means of a drive cable that is connected to a motor situated in a remote stationary work station.

Abstract: A saw (10) is provided comprising a frame (20) containing a saw blade (22) and a fluid motor (24), and a handle (28) connected to the frame (22) incorporating means (36b) for connecting to a fluid supply and throttle means for controlling the fluid supply, wherein at least the portion of the handle (28) incorporating the throttle means is releasably connected to the frame (22) or the remainder of the handle so that the throttle means can be relocated elsewhere in the fluid supply. Preferably, the saw (10) further comprises a trolley (40) on which the frame (22) is releasably mountable so that the saw (10) can be operated either as a floor saw or a hand saw. The handle portion (28) can be relocated to the handlebar (50) of the trolley (40) to give the operator direct control over the fluid supply. Alternatively, separate throttle valves can be supplied on the saw (10) and the trolley (40) to achieve the same object.

  • Patent number: 5419087
Abstract: A flexible polyurethane foam cylindrically shaped sanding device (1) manufactured from formulas of abrasive material, can be permanently surfaced with an abrasive material or layer and can be used in conjunction witch abrasive sheets. The tube sheet (4) can be manufactured from wet or dry type abrasive sheets, perforated to allow for water penetration for wet sanding. The tube sheet is assembled into tube form by connection of the opposite edges of same abrasive sheet by fastening same sheet edge to edge by the adhesive tape (31) on back side of sheet,The sanding device is mountable to a pole by the mounting rod (81 ) which is run through mounting apparatus fork, through the sanding device center sleeve (21 ) and into the opposite threaded hole or inserted nut (82) or disc nut (89).The mounting apparatus (84) is fastened to external pole (86) by screwing same pole into fitting on mounting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5407381
Abstract: In an electric hand machine tool, particularly an angle grinding machine, for the purpose of ergonomic handling the handle, together with the switch bar, is designed to be rotatable, relative to the tool mounting on the gear head (11). For the rapid, problem-free changing of the position of the handle relative to the tool mounting, the handle (12) can be locked against rotation on the motor casing, containing the electric drive, in at least two turned positions by a manually operable locking device, and can be clamped on the motor casing by a manually operable clamp device. In a preferred embodiment the locking device (40) and clamp device are coupled together by constraint and are operated simultaneously by means of a single tightening lever.

  • Patent number: 5392568
Abstract: A random orbit sander having a braking member for frictionally controlling the speed of a platen of the sander when the sander is removed from a workpiece during operation. The braking member includes a base portion, an outwardly flaring, relatively thin wall portion and an enlarged outermost edge portion adapted to frictionally engage an upper surface of the platen. The braking member is secured to the bottom of the shroud of the housing via a groove formed in its base portion. The braking member exerts a relatively constant spring force against the upper surface of the platen which limits the rotational speed of the platen to approximately 1200 rpm when the platen is lifted off of a work surface, without significantly degrading the performance of the sander under load.

  • Patent number: 5384984
Abstract: A pad sander skirt which flares out over the periphery of the sanding pad and which is coupled to a lower housing so that it swivels about the body of the sander. The skirt and lower housing can be selectively swivelled in a rotational manner to a position desired by the user. A further sander improvement disclosed relates to the protection of a user's hand. Palm-grip random orbit sanders are sometimes configured so that the sanding pad may begin spinning at high speed when the sander is lifted off of the work. To this end, the present application discloses a protective skirt which flares out over the periphery of the pad in a palm-grip random orbit sander. Also disclosed is an improved dust collection system comprising a filter housing formed of a rigid porous material for entrapping dust, as well as a braking system for use with random-orbit sanders.
