Abstract: An in-vehicle communication system is disclosed. The in-vehicle communication system is configured to connect a short range wireless communication link between an in-vehicle apparatus and a portable device, and predicts a battery level threshold reach time, which is a time when a battery level of a battery of the portable device reaches below a threshold. When it is determined that the battery level threshold reach time is prior to a vehicle travel end time, the in-vehicle communication system notifies the passenger of prompt battery charge information to prompt the passenger to charge the battery of the portable device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products present a custom alert to a recipient of an incoming data communication. A data message is received that specifies the custom alert associated with the data communication. The customer alert is then visually and/or audibly presented to provide notice of the data communication.

Abstract: A system and method for making vehicle originated calls to a telematics service provider or other call center. The method includes identifying a call type associated with a desired wireless communication of speech or data to the call center, and then carrying out one of a number of different call connection processes depending on the call type. For voice channel cellular connections, an in-band modem cellular connection is preferably established in most instances using a connection retry strategy that includes primary, secondary, and possibly tertiary connection attempts each of which utilize at least one of a number of different voice and data call origination processes. The system and method can be carried out in connection with various cellular system technologies, but is especially suited for use with GSM systems.

Abstract: A method of delivering event notifications includes receiving data from a network-based calendar system at a notification system. The data indicates that a notification related to a calendar-based event is to be sent to a subscriber. The method also includes receiving presence information related to the subscriber from a presence system. The presence information indicates whether the subscriber is present at one or more of a plurality of subscriber devices. The plurality of subscriber devices includes a set-top box device. Further, the method includes sending an event notification related to the calendar-based event to the set-top box device when the presence information indicates that the subscriber is present at the set-top box device.

Abstract: Automatically retrieving messages by a wireless telephone based on user preferences. A method of the invention receives a notification, on a wireless device, indicating that a computing device has a message for a user. One or more rules associated with the user are evaluated based on the received notification. The method also automatically requests the message from the computing device as a function of the evaluated rules and received from the computing device. The method further stores the received message in a memory area of the wireless telephone for rendering to the user. Alternatively, one or more rules associated with the user are dynamically generated by monitoring the user interaction with the wireless telephone.

Abstract: Methods, program products, and systems of determining a time zone based on location is disclosed. In general, in one aspect, a mobile device can store one or more geometric shapes using latitude and longitude coordinates. The geometric shapes can be associated with time zones. The mobile device can determine a current location. The mobile device can identify a geometric shape in which the mobile device is currently is located. The mobile device can determine the time zone associated with the identified geometric shape.

Abstract: System and method for determining whether an incoming call originates from inside or outside of a mobile carriers network and indicates the result to the subscriber. An example system performs a GTT (global title translation) on an incoming number to determine the hosting carrier of any mobile phone number. When the result matches the subscriber's carrier, the mobile device then indicates to the subscriber (i.e. mobile device) that the call is an “in network call.” Results of the comparison are stored and used for later incoming calls. The stored results are refreshed every time or periodically.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and a device for backing up an unread short message, both of which can store a new short message received by a mobile communication terminal in a terminal storage and back up the new short message to a subscriber identity card, and delete, when a user reads or deletes an unread short message stored in the terminal storage, a backup unread short message, which stored in the subscriber identity card, corresponding to the new short message. The method and the device of the present invention can synchronize the unread short message in the terminal storage and the subscriber identity card, so that the user will not lose the unread short message even when changing the mobile communication terminal.

Abstract: A system and method are provided that utilize a set of heuristics to more intelligently determine when to utilize an audible tone associated with a notification profile or other mechanism used to alert a user of events such as an incoming instant message. The heuristics employed consider the layering of the message screens for the corresponding conversations, in combination with one or more device usage indicators such as the status of the backlight, the idle timer, and the orientation of the mobile device 10A itself as indicated by the orientation sensor.

Abstract: An electronic infrastructure consisting a plurality of client mobile devices, a distribution server and a media creator computer, wherein the client mobile devices present interactive media upon user request. The plurality of client mobile devices support dynamic screen display and, contain a plurality of soft keys. The media creator is a personal computer that generates interactive media and sends them to the distribution server for distribution. The distribution server processes and sends the interactive media to the client mobile device and the client mobile devices presents the interactive media in a series of screens to the user. The client mobile devices interactively send the user responses back to the distribution server.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system and method for controlling the output level of an enunciator on a portable electronic device. In one embodiment, this is provided a portable electronic device, comprising: a microprocessor; an enunciator connected to the microprocessor configured to provide an enunciation in response to enunciation events, the enunciator having at least a first enunciation setting and a second enunciation setting; a sensor; a monitoring circuit connected to the sensor for providing a trigger signal in response to a notable movement of the portable electronic device; and an enunciator management module to: activate the enunciator at the first enunciation setting in response to an enunciation event; adjust the output of the enunciator to the second enunciation setting in response to a first trigger signal from the monitoring circuit; and re-activate the enunciator at the second enunciation setting.

Abstract: A system and method for providing enhanced information to a mobile telephone regarding a calling device is described. The system and method includes receiving an incoming call request at a mobile telephone including the identifier of the calling device. An information request is then formulated including the identifier of the calling device. The information request is transmitted from the mobile phone to the query processing center via a data communication channel. A response is then obtained from the data processing center and transmitted to the mobile phone via the data communication channel. The response received from the data processing center includes the requested information related to the calling device.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system of using call termination to communicate a message are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system of a telecommunications network includes a mobile station associated with the telecommunications network, a switching module of the telecommunications network to establish a call between a communication device and the mobile station, a call termination module of the mobile station to determine if the mobile station is in a call termination mode and to communicate a communication protocol to the switching module to cause the switching module to terminate the call if the mobile station is in the call termination mode, and a message module of the telecommunications network to communicate a message to the communication device.

Abstract: An emergency alert message in the form of multimedia is distributed via an Internet Protocol multimedia broadcast system utilizing wireless communications networks. In an example embodiment, the IP multimedia broadcast based system includes the Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) and is utilized with Global System for Mobile communications/Universal Mobile Telecommunications System/Long Term Evolution (GSM/UMTS/LTE) networks, the Broadcast and Multicast Services (BCMCS) and is utilized with Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks, or a combination thereof. Multimedia information can include text, maps, graphics, video clips, audio clips, still pictures, and/or images, for example. In an example embodiment, the multimedia emergency alert message is provided along with a link to additional multimedia information related to the emergency alert.

Abstract: Various embodiments pertain to techniques that utilize data obtained from various sensors and sources of information on a mobile device to determine a profile to be applied to the mobile device. Data obtained from various sensors and sources of information on the mobile device can include real-time data from hardware sensors or receivers on the mobile device, local device data, and remote data available via a wireless connection. Applying the profile to the mobile device can include adjusting various parameters, such as ringtone tune, ringtone volume, call filtering, call forwarding, and message notification. In various embodiments, data is obtained and analyzed to determine a profile category for the user. In some embodiments, different types of data can be weighted differently, and data that is more personal can have a higher relative importance when compared to data that is less personal.

Abstract: A system and method for integrating voice and data operations into a single mobile device capable of simultaneously performing data and voice actions. The mobile device working in a network capable of exchanging both cell phone calls and data items to the mobile device. By wearing an earphone or an ear-bud device the user is capable of dealing with voice conversations while working with data centric information related to the current caller. By providing a data-centric device with voice capabilities there is a new range of features that allow incoming data events to trigger outgoing voice events.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and techniques by which a caller may specify a callee's telephone number and be connected directly to a carrier provided voice mail facility associated with the identified the telephone number, even though the callee's carrier may not be the same as the caller's carrier. In the disclosed technique, a telephony server places a “Send a call” request to a server which then sends a signaling call that busies out the channel associated with the callee. The telephony server places a second call (the actual voice message) upon confirmation that the signaling call has been initiated, forcing the second call to the carrier's voice mail facility associated with the callee, since the first signaling call busied the first channel. Prior to sending the signaling call, a database look up is performed to determine which carrier services the callee number. Once the carrier is determined, another memory look up is performed to determine the time delay associated with that carrier.

Abstract: A disclosure provides mobile communication devices that receive information corresponding to users associated with target mobile communication device, via a near field communication protocol. The information is stored in a storage device either within the mobile communication device or within a separate server. If it is determined that the target mobile communication device is within a predetermined distance of the mobile communication device, data entries associated with the stored information are created and retrieved, in real time. The data entries are displayed on the mobile communication device. The data entries may include personal information or email messages from prior communication sessions, which are employed in future communications between the mobile communication devices.

Abstract: An unintentional dialing event is detected by characterizing some action of a portable phone, e.g., its movement or its surroundings. The action can be characterized by a sensor, and that sensor can be for example an accelerometer, a camera in the phone, or a microphone in the phone, or some other way. The movement can be characterized to see if it is synchronous with entries on the keyboard, which would likely represent the unintentional dialing event or “but dialing”. The environment can also be characterized other ways, for example by using a microphone in the phone to text sound profiles or to detect sounds in sync with the entries, or can be characterized using a camera in the phone to detect a light profile.

The communication device has one or more data packets which are associated with one of the communication transport modes. Content may be presented automatically to a user on recipient device based on such criteria. Content may be converted from audio to text, text to audio, or from any format to any other format. Location, motion data, user preferences, etc. may be obtained from a location based service system, a recipient wireless device, or any other source.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating a mobile communication device in a sleep mode. The mobile communication device displays a time in an easily readable format at a low-light intensity, provides an alert to a user at an alarm time in a particular manner specified by the user, changes the buttons on the mobile communication device to operate as snooze buttons, and suppresses a portion of call and message notifications received by the mobile communication device when the mobile communication device is in the sleep mode. The sleep mode operation is performed, at least in part, according to sleep-mode user settings chosen by the user.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for mass population notification of lost items. A user indicates a location in the proximity of where an item was lost and can also enter information describing the lost item and possibly upload a picture of the item. The user can select how many residents that he wants to notify about the lost item. The user's item description and contact information is processed to create a short voice message and/or text message to be delivered to the residents around the location where his item was lost. A map can be displayed to the user that graphically displays the area that is covered by the phone numbers found or an estimate of the phone number coverage selected by the user.

Abstract: A computer software and hardware system for fire stations is described which provides communications utilizing SMS (Short Message Service) cellular phone text messaging automatically notifying firemen or other personnel of an emergency page when their dispatch pages them via radio dispatch or by other means. Responses from this SMS text message are replied to via SMS text messaging with a code letter and their response is displayed on a screen at their station so other responding firemen know if, who, and where other firemen are responding. Users can also opt to automatically receive on their cell phones an MMS (Multimedia Message Service) message containing a multimedia sound recording of the actual emergency dispatch voice page.

Abstract: A method for conditioning multimedia containers to be compatible with decoding facilities of receivers of diverse types is disclosed. Content of a multimedia container may include components of different encoding formats. Container conditioning also detects and, where feasible, removes undesirable insertions within each content component of a multimedia container. A content component of a container may be filtered, re-encoded, or deleted. Notifications indicating conditions of a container and any modifications performed are appended to the container. A notification may be presented in at least one form compatible with characteristics of a respective receiver. Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that allow an application residing on a user device to intercept messages directed to that device and to extract control information and/or data from the intercepted messages for use by the application. In one embodiment, the intercepted message can cause the application to change its configuration or to present information to the user that came from a sending website. In another embodiment, a message from a device can trigger a website to send back a desired piece of data. The returned data may contain a flag, which directs the data to a formatting server. The formatting server then converts the data into a format that allows the data to be intercepted by the desired application on the user device. This then allows the desired data to be presented to the user in the context of an application resident on the user's device.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for enhancing a phone device such as a cell phone by automatically linking/associating caller identifying information with voicemail notification so that the phone's user (callee) receives notification of which missed call(s) generated a voicemail/SMS notification. The voicemail notification displays a notification identification (NID) associated with the particular caller number that generated the voicemail, and each voicemail displayed via the associated NID on the phone's display when the user selects the voicemail. Also, voicemail notification (icon or check mark) is added to the missed call log and displayed next to the missed call number that generated a voicemail. Additionally, granular user-directed access to voicemail is provided whereby the user of the phone device accesses the voicemail from the missed call (or received call) log and is able to listen to a specific voicemail left by a selected one of the listed missed calls/callee.

A functional mode of the radioterminal is activated in response to the radioterminal being in the region of applicability. Abstract: Data communications sessions for visual voicemail data communications are terminated under the control of a wireless device's visual voicemail client. In one embodiment, a visual voicemail client can be configured to transmit a request or command to terminate a data communications session immediately upon sending an acknowledgement of receiving voicemail data from a voicemail server. In another embodiment, a visual voicemail client can be configured to transmit a request or command to terminate a data communications session following the expiration of a timer set by the visual voicemail client. Alternatively, a visual voicemail client can be configured to wait for a termination request for command from a voicemail server.

Abstract: A method of, and a mobile terminal configured for, efficiently displaying an event indication in the form of a pop-up box during idle mode of a mobile terminal is provided. Upon occurrence of a second event in idle mode, it is determined whether an event pop-up box indicating an occurrence of a first event of the same type as the second event exists. When the event pop-up box indicating the occurrence of the first event exists, the event pop-up box is updated with information indicating the occurrence of the second event and displayed on a display.

Abstract: A mobile communication device provides a user with the ability to set up one or more profiles on the device. Each profile is configured to segment the user's data and applications and selectively restrict access from an active profile to user data and applications associated with other profiles on the device. The mobile communication device stores profile configuration data including profile selection criteria used to automatically associate items of user data with profiles on the device. When an item of user data is received on the device, the device automatically identifies a profile to associate with the received item based on the profile selection criteria, and the received item is stored in the device so as to be associated with the identified profile. Exemplary profile selection criteria include criteria based on a current time or location, a currently active profile, a data type of the received item, and a source of the received item.

Abstract: Method for reducing call initiation collisions in a wireless communication system includes determining, at an eNodeB, a need to reduce a number of call initiation requests arriving from a plurality of user equipment (UEs). One operation provides broadcasting, by the eNodeB, a notification message to the UEs responsive to the determining of the need to reduce the number of call initiation requests, the notification message including information for facilitating a determination of whether a receiving UE is permitted to transmit a call initiation request to the eNodeB. Another feature includes receiving, at the eNodeB, the call initiation request from one or more of the plurality of UEs that are determined to be permitted to transmit the call initiation request.

If the user is available for calls to be made, a call to a recipient from the list of contact numbers is initiated and the call is connected to the mobile communication device.

Abstract: A system and method of initiating user notification for a wireless device is provided for allowing a user to locate the wireless device when it has been accidentally misplaced. Notification settings of a wireless device indicate whether incoming communication triggers user notification. If the wireless device has been configured to not ring, then calling the wireless device will not help the user to locate the wireless device. A message (e.g. email, SMS) configured for prompting user notification notwithstanding the notification settings is sent to the wireless device. The message is routed through a wireless network and received by the wireless device. In accordance with an embodiment of the disclosure, in response to the message, the wireless device executes a user notification notwithstanding the notification settings. In some implementations, the user notification includes audible ringing, which might help the user to locate the wireless device based on the audible ringing.

In one embodiment, a wireless chat automatic status tracking system utilizes a change in mobile registration status to automatically forward or copy a registration notification (REGNOT) message to an external IP application, to notify a chat group system outside the wireless network of current status information activity regarding a relevant device. Change in mobile registration is communicated via a suitable signaling link between a HLR and the chat group system.
