Having Message Notification Patents (Class 455/412.2)
  • Patent number: 8831650
Abstract: The system comprises wireless user equipment (UE) and a core network unit interfaced with the UE through a wireless access network. A first short message relay (SMR) entity and a first short message control entity (SMC) are provided in the core network unit or the UE, the other one having a second SMR entity and a second SMC entity. The method of exchanging SMS data comprises, in the first SMC entity:—transmitting to the second SMC entity first control protocol data (CP_DATA) conveying relay protocol data (RP_DATA) provided by the first SMR entity,—receiving from the second SMC entity second CP_DATA conveying relay protocol acknowledgement information (RP_ACK) from the second SMR entity; and—retransmitting the first CP_DATA unless an acknowledgement is received from the second SMC entity before a timer expires. The second CP_DATA is interpreted as an acknowledgement for deciding whether the first CP_DATA is to be retransmitted.

  • Patent number: 8825032
Abstract: The described systems and methods allow for safer operation of a wireless communication device (WCD). The methods may be carried out at the WCD or at a wireless-communications network that interfaces to the WCD. A hands-free-audio (HFA) profile associated with the WCD may be set to enabled or disabled. A speed-condition of the WCD is determined and compared to a speed-threshold. If the speed-condition is greater than the speed-threshold and the HFA profile is enabled, then the WCD is operable to engage in wireless communications (e.g., voice calls or text messaging) via an HFA device associated with the WCD. If the speed-condition is greater than the speed-threshold and the HFA profile is set to disabled, then the WCD may prevent and/or postpone wireless communications from occurring. After the speed-condition is determined to be less than the speed-threshold, previously received communications (e.g., text messages) may be presented via the WCD.

  • Patent number: 8825024
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and system for completing a call attempt made by a first party on a first network to a second party on a second network. The second network may be the first network or one of multiple networks excluding the first network. The first network detects termination of the call attempt. The first network communicates availability of a messaging service to the first party. The messaging service may be a short messaging service (SMS), a voice SMS, a multimedia messaging service, and a multimodal messaging service. The first network does not bill the first party for the communication of the availability of the messaging service. On acceptance of the messaging service by the first party, the first party creates a message to be delivered to the second party on the second network. The first network delivers the message to the second party on the second network.

  • Patent number: 8818413
Abstract: A method and system for targeting content (e.g., a service or an advertisement) according to location-based information derived from a mobile wireless transceiver device. Position information as a function of time is used to calculate a rate of travel and a direction of travel. This information can be used to identify a likely mode of transportation. Geographical information can be used to further refine the mode of transportation. Thus, in addition to the position of the wireless transceiver devices, factors such as the rate of travel, the direction of travel and the likely mode of transportation are also considered to more precisely identify the appropriate service. Moreover, a potential destination can be predicted, allowing further refinement of the targeted service.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for establishing a telephone connection to a mobile communications terminal device (11) via a mobile communications network (5, 7, 9), with at least one mobile telephone number being assigned to the mobile communications terminal device (11), wherein a supplement i.e. prefix or suffix as a control parameter is added to the mobile telephone number, the supplement being independent from the mobile telephone number. Before establishing the telephone connection an analysis of this supplement is made and the reachability of the mobile communications terminal device (11) is determined. The “reachability” is that the calling party only wants to make the call if the called party is available in real time i.e. does not want to be forwarded to voice-mail. Another example is that the call should only be established for calls that remain in the same network, so as to save costs. The supplement indicates whether the establishment of a telephone connection shall be initiated or suppressed.

  • Patent number: 8788731
Abstract: A message filtering system for a communications system in a vehicle enabling communication between various systems and subsystems via a vehicle bus. Electronic devices may be coupled to the bus. Electronic control units (ECUs) may be located therebetween. The ECU may regulate or control the flow of messages between the bus and the electronic devices. Message filters may apply a filter policy to incoming and outgoing messages. In addition, the message filtering system may have an alert policy for violations of the filter policy. In one embodiment, the source identity of outgoing messages may be overwritten by a message filter dedicated to outgoing messages; this message filter may be an application specific integrated circuit.

  • Patent number: 8781500
Abstract: A property could be covered by a mobile device policy map that defines a plurality of spaces within the property and associates each defined space with a respective notification policy regarding how one or more classes of mobile devices are permitted to provide notifications in response to incoming communications. The mobile device policy map for a property could be developed by the proprietor of the property and could be enforced by a server. A mobile device could report its location to the server, and the server could determine that the location is within or proximate to an area covered by a mobile device policy map. The server could then transmit at least a portion of the mobile device policy map to the mobile device, so that the mobile device can apply the relevant policies based on its location.

  • Patent number: 8781453
Abstract: A directory server may proactively provide to a remote mobile phone (or similar device) recent contextual information associated with callers who are likely to call the remote mobile phone, such that the remote mobile phone is likely to have a local set of recent contextual data about a given caller when the caller places a call to the remote mobile phone (or visa versa). When an unknown caller calls the remote mobile phone, the directory server may use the caller's phone number to identify directory information and one or more social-network or similar accounts that are used as sources of contextual information about the caller.

  • Patent number: 8774769
Abstract: A time stamp of a message from a sending mobile device may be modified to correlate with the time zone occupied by a recipient mobile device. A message from a sending mobile device may be received at a message center. The message center may then route the message to a switch that manages the recipient mobile device, in which the switch is in a time zone that is different from the time zone occupied by the recipient mobile device. Accordingly, the switch may update a time stamp of the message to correlate with the time zone occupied by the recipient mobile. Following the update, the switch may transfer the message with the updated time stamp to the recipient mobile device.
