  • Patent number: 8768309
Abstract: The disclosed subject matter relates to an architecture that can facilitate and/or transmit reminders based upon device presence techniques in connection with a wireless communications network. For example, when certain mobile devices register with a particular network entity (e.g., a femtocell) that services a particular target location (e.g., place of residence), then such registration can be leveraged to indicate presence at the target location. Accordingly, reminders can be configured by custodian devices and delivered to subservient devices if certain predetermined conditions or criteria are satisfied in connection with the presence information.

  • Patent number: 8767676
Abstract: A network device includes a transceiver and a control module. The transceiver transmits, from the network device to a first access point, first packets and second packets, transmits a request signal to a second access point to perform a handover of support for the network device from the first access point to the second access point, and receives a control message from the second access point based on the request signal. The transceiver receives the control message subsequent to transmitting the first packets to the second access point. The control message indicates the second access point received, during the handover, the first packets from the first access point, and one of the first packets from the network device. The control module, based on the control message, refrains from transmitting the one of the first packets, discards the first packets, and has the second packets transmitted to the second access point.

Abstract: Provided is a system and method for automatically leaving an Outgoing Caller Message (OCM) at a callee's (i.e. called) recording system. If a mobile caller reaches an OutGoing Message (OGM) from a callee's system because the callee does not answer, the caller can opt to automatically leave a preconfigured message instead of spending time leaving a message. An OCM background thread of processing is started at the mobile device for taking over the active call, and the initial active call processing thread terminates for releasing user interface focus so the caller is free to perform other application processing while background processing occurs. The OCM background thread determines the best OCM to leave, for example based in part on a situational location of the mobile caller, and then automatically leaves the OCM at the callee's system before terminating the call.

The emergency alert system renders one or more translations of the text alert from the text alert. The one or more translated versions of the text alert are provided in particular foreign languages based upon designated foreign languages corresponding to the geographic area identification. The emergency alert system transmits the text alert and one or more translated text alerts commercial mobile wireless service provider networks for broadcasting the text alert and the translated text alert(s) via mobile wireless transmitters having a coverage area falling within a region corresponding to the geographic area identification.

Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for sharing contact information between two mobile phones. A user of a first mobile phone can select contact information stored in the mobile phone to be shared with a second mobile phone while having live phone call with a caller of the second mobile phone. The first mobile phone transmits the contact information to the second mobile phone using a voice channel of the phone call while the phone call is established. For example, the first mobile phone may convert the contact information into an audio signal and send the audio signal to the second mobile phone while the phone call is established. The second mobile phone receives the contact information and provides a user interface such that a caller can call a phone number in the contact information with a single button press.

Abstract: Audible signals are created and emitted that provide a human user with improved sound localization cues to quickly and efficiently find the emitting device. Different emitted audible signals are sequentially emitted in response to receiving an activation signal. The different audible signals have been observed to efficiently help a human locate emitting devices that are 1) inside a sealed enclosure, such as a box; 2) in close proximity to the user; and 3) that is a large distance from the user.

  • Patent number: 8725118
Abstract: A device receives a motion-based affiliation request message and, upon receipt, enters an affiliation motion detection state. If an affiliation motion is detected while in the detection state, a message is sent to a server. The message comprises a request to affiliate to a communication group and/or an indication that the device has detected the affiliation motion. From the perspective of the server, a motion-based affiliation initiation request message is received, and based on the message, at least one device is determined to receive a motion-based affiliation request message. The server sends the affiliation request message to the device and determines whether a message was received. The message comprises one of a request to affiliate to the communication group and/or an indication that the device has detected an affiliation motion. If a message was received, affiliation of the device to the communication group is initiated.

Abstract: The smart dynamic radiation pattern optimising system is a design and technique to actively shape & optimise the radiation pattern of mobile device controlled by smart RF/Antenna system with signal processing algorithm that works by sensing the change in device proximity environment with nature or property, range, orientation, position, location, signal quality parameters and ambient intelligence to protect the user by controlling radiation exposure, enhance RF signal quality and to save battery power. Mobile devices are handled in different proximity environment which influence the antenna performance due to electromagnetic interaction based on environments properties that leads to detuning, radiation pattern distortion, impedance mismatch etc which in turn degrades the signal quality. Also change in device orientation according to usage leads to power loss due to polarization mismatch.

  • Patent number: 8718623
Abstract: A hardware and/or software facility measures end user activity associated with a software application or service on a mobile phone or other mobile device. The facility tracks and stores usage data associated with a mobile user's use of the application or service. When the mobile user initiates transmission of the usage data, the facility retrieves from the mobile phone or other mobile device a usage code representing the usage data. The facility relies on user transcription, text input-buffer insertion, or other indirect means of data transport to deliver the usage code from the mobile phone or other mobile device to an application developer, service provider, or another entity. The recipient extracts the usage data contained in the usage code, and may perform various data mining and analysis techniques on the usage data in order to evaluate how the application or service is used.
