Abstract: Disclosed are devices and methods of a communication device including initiating an initial communication via a modem in response to a data pull communication event or a data push communication event and determining by the controller a measured network condition associated with transmitting the initial communication as well as determining by the controller the power consumption of the initial communication based on a measured network condition value processed by monitoring the modem. Methods of a communication device further include comparing the power consumption value with a predetermined power consumption value stored in the memory related to a predetermined acceptable measured network condition value for this type of communication event, and terminating by the controller, the communication when the power consumption value exceeds the predetermined power consumption value based upon the acceptable measured network condition value for this type of communication event.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing messaging are described. An illustrative messaging system includes a processor and a content database storing video content and/or other content, and a user database that stores an identifier corresponding to a telecommunications carrier associated with a user mobile phone, and an indicator indicating the messaging capability of the mobile phone of the user. Code is stored in memory that is configured to provide for display on a terminal a form via which a user can view a plurality of videos from the content database, select a video to be sent as a message, and specify a recipient for the video message. The system is optionally configured to initiate the transmission of an approval request message to a terminal, such as a mobile phone associated with the user, wherein the user can approve the sending of the video message to the recipient by taking an action in response to the approval request.

Abstract: A system and method for estimating a place affinity for a user is disclosed. The system comprises a gathering module, a communication module and a scoring module. The gathering module receives a place and retrieves rich place data associated with the place. The communication module retrieves user profile data associated with a user and a place affinity model associated with the user. The scoring module estimates an affinity score for the place using the place affinity model based at least in part on the rich place data and the user profile data.

Abstract: A method and system which may determine when to deliver assistance data to a requesting user device. In one example, the user device may request updates of assistance data related to one or more data type from an assistance server. Additionally, the user device may include one or more parameters for the delivery of updates of assistance data. The assistance server may provide updated assistance data based on an event and in compliance with the one or more parameters.

Abstract: A method is provided in one embodiment and includes receiving a network address associated with a wireless device at a first network element in which the network address identifies the wireless device on a first network, and receiving user credentials from a directory service associated with a second network. The user credentials identify a user associated with the wireless device on the second network. The method further includes associating the user credentials with the network address, and communicating a request message to a second network element. The request message includes a request for a user identifier identifying the user on a third network. The method further includes receiving a response message from the second network element including the user identifier, associating the user credentials with the user identifier, and storing the association of the user credentials and the user identifier in a whitelist.

Abstract: A method for effective utilization of call idle time, including detecting by the processor of a phone, that a first person using the phone has initiated a phone call to a second person, and that the second person has not yet answered the call, wherein the phone is operative in an idle mode to present content pre-designated by the first person, and is operative in a normal mode to send and receive voice communications to and from the second person and to not present the pre-designated content, activating the idle mode of the phone in response to the detecting, subsequently detecting, by the processor of the phone, that the second person has answered the call, and subsequently activating the normal mode of the phone in response to the subsequently detecting.

Abstract: A mobile terminal including a wireless communication unit configured to request a 3D webpage from a web server; a display unit configured to display the 3D webpage received via the wireless communication unit; a memory configured to set a display condition of the 3D webpage for the mobile terminal; and a controller configured to detect whether a current status of the mobile terminal meets the set display condition when a command for accessing the 3D webpage is input before the 3D webpage is requested from the web server, request and receive the 3D webpage via the wireless communication unit if the current status of the mobile terminal meets the set display condition, control the display unit to display the received 3D webpage, and control a 3D operation of the displayed 3D webpage.

Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for enforcing device settings for mobile devices. Generally, a computer system enforces appropriate mobile device settings (e.g., policy and/or configuration settings) prior to permitting a mobile device to access maintained data. The computer system receives a request from a mobile device. The computer system determines that current mobile device settings are not appropriate for accessing the maintained data. The computer system sends device settings, representing a new mobile device configuration that is appropriate accessing the maintained data, to the mobile device. The computer system receives an indication that the mobile device is configured in accordance with the device settings. The computer system permits the mobile device to access the maintained data in response to receiving the indication that the mobile device is configured in accordance with the device settings.

Abstract: A system and method for securely bridging mobile-originated Media Resource Control Protocol (MRCP) transactions with at least one Media Resource Server. A mobile device initiates TCP/IP requests to a MRCP Gateway Server over at least one of the wireless and mobile broadband capabilities of the mobile device. The MRCP Gateway Server includes TCP/IP-based ingress, and the MRCP Gateway Server is arranged in front of the at least one Media Resource Server. The Media Resource Server supports MRCP communication. A secure channel may be established between the mobile device and MRCP Gateway Server, and the mobile device may pass authorization credentials, media resource requirements, and additional user-defined data to the MRCP Gateway Server over the secure channel.

Abstract: A mobile station provides an Interactive Multimedia Response to a user's call. The mobile station detects when a user dials a predetermined telephone number. In response, at least one visual object representing available services is displayed. In response to a user's input, at least one visual object representing a service selected by the user may be displayed. In a Call Intercept Mode, the mobile station detects a telephone number entered by the user to initiate an outgoing call to a destination that provides account-specific data. The mobile station then conducts a data communication with a self service server of the communication service provider to obtain the account-specific data corresponding to the detected telephone number. Upon receiving the account-specific data, at least one visual object including the requested account-specific data is displayed on the mobile device.

Abstract: A method and system for handling position determination devices and related position in mobile equipment is described.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring apps in a vehicle or in a smartphone to reduce driver distraction is disclosed. A controller operating inside or in combination with the head unit of the vehicle or operating inside or in combination with the smartphone may monitor operation of the vehicle, and generate alerts indicative of operation of the vehicle (such as an alert indicative that the vehicle is operating at a predetermined speed). In response to the alert, the operation of the app in the vehicle or in the smartphone may be modified.

Abstract: A task management system includes a game terminal and a server. The game terminal acknowledges user designation of whether positional information indicating a position arbitrarily designated by a user on a map of a scale displayed on the terminal or positional information indicating the current position of the terminal should be added to data that should be stored in the server along with the positional information. The game terminal transmits the data to which user designated positional information is added to the server. The server stores the data transmitted from the game terminal along with the positional information.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for republishing content for a wireless device. In the wireless device, this may comprise: receiving a content manifest associated with a new content, the content manifest providing information about the new content; identifying any changes to existing content stored in the device, based on the information in the content manifest; retrieving updates in the new content corresponding to the changes; and storing the updates.

Abstract: A method and system identifies a data file for transfer to a user. The invention also detects the movement of the user device from which the data file transfer was made and calculates a projected path for movement of the user device. Based on the projected path of movement, the sections of the requested data file are transferred in parallel to node areas where the user device is projected to move according to the projected path. As the user enters a node area, the section of the data file downloaded to that node area is locally transferred to the user device and thereby substantially reducing download time of a large data file.

Abstract: Methods and systems are presented for providing automatic personal assistance on a user device (e.g., mobile phone). In some embodiments, a personal assistant on a first user device may respond automatically to a received input communication from a second user device. In some embodiments, the personal assistant may perform a local search of data stored on the first user device in order to retrieve data responsive to the received input. In some embodiments, the personal assistant may perform a local load of an entry into an application on the first user device in order to perform an action responsive to the received user input. In some embodiments, the automatic response may include sending a responsive output communication to the second user device. The automatic personal assistance may be customized based on user-editable automatic personal assistance settings.

Abstract: A method of controlling a mobile communication terminal method includes receiving Internet tag information identifying an Internet address, providing a menu screen on a display of the terminal so that a user can select representative image data that visually represents to the user the Internet address, linking the representative image data selected by the user with the Internet tag information and displaying the representative image data on a display of the mobile communication terminal.

Abstract: To overcome the problem of limited backhaul capacity and limited wireless channel capacity when downloading videos to smart phones, a method for transmission of data across a mobile telecommunications network, includes providing each Smartphone or other user station (Ua-Ud) with a memory cache (12) and a download app (10), and providing a server (2) in the core network with a server cache memory (16) and a download control app (14). Each user registers with the server, the server gathers information of internet web sites (URLn) accessed by the users from which downloads may be made, monitors the websites, and as and when updates appear on the websites, selectively downloads the updates in the server cache. There is then established a common data channel from the server, across base stations (3), to the users in order to download the updates to the user's memory cache (12).

The method includes providing an interface for providing a service based on information regarding a wireless transceiver positioned close to an apparatus for providing content, the information being received from the wireless transceiver; requesting a waiting number for providing the service via the interface; and receiving the waiting number for providing the service, a waiting time, and content based on the waiting time.

Abstract: A media system includes a content platform that provides an interface for browsing and/or purchase of ringback media content by a user of a communications device. The system includes a profiles database containing profile information for a multitude of users of communications devices. The media system further includes a memory storing instructions for execution by the platform which causes it to 1) obtain information from the device including assignment of ringback media content to contacts in an address book maintained on the device; and 2) update the profiles database in accordance with the information obtained from the device. The information obtained in 1) may be obtained automatically, each time the user accesses the content platform. The system may further include an analyzer module which is used to generate targeted promotional messages based on the contents of the profile database.

Abstract: A system supporting controlled access to multimedia information and media-related services, the system including a gateway communicatively coupled to a broadband network and at least one wireless interface, the gateway capable of selectively communicating multimedia information among the at least one wireless interface and the broadband network, and of communicating with a plurality of access devices via the at least one wireless interface. The gateway is also capable of selecting one of a plurality of access privilege tiers based upon identification information received from one of the plurality of access devices. The identification information includes a plurality of identity data pieces. Each of the plurality of identify data pieces differs from another of the plurality of identity data pieces. Access to each of the plurality of access privilege tiers requires a different degree of authentication that is represented by a different combination of the plurality of identity data pieces.

Abstract: Various embodiments relate to scheduling one or more media system for use. The media systems may or may not be in a vehicle. Input may be received at a computing device for scheduling use of multiple media systems. A schedule of media system use may be generated based on the input at the computing device. Use instructions based on the media system use schedule may be transmitted so that use of the multiple media systems is enabled in accordance with the media system use schedule.

Abstract: A user may receive one or more text messages after the user is authorized. The potential user can opt in through a web page in one embodiment. Once the potential user sends an initial request, the user may receive a first text message containing an authorization code on their mobile phone. The user may enter the authorization code back to a web page. Receipt of the authorization code may trigger the phone number of the potential user to be added to a list of authorized text message receivers. One or more text messages may then be sent to authorized phone numbers on the list.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for establishing media data exposure, where a media device, such as a computer, radio, television and the like, receive media data and produces research data from it. The research data may be based on computer-based or computer network-based characteristics, ancillary codes or audio signatures. As the research data is being produced, an inductive coupling is sought for nearby portable computer devices. Once a portable computing device inductively couples to the media device, information is transferred, allowing a system to determine and/or verify that specific users were exposed to particular media data.

Abstract: A system and method for using a wireless browser to send local information from a wireless handset to a Web server. A service request received from a handset user includes the type of local information needed to carry out the request as well as the URL address of the server. The handset confirms that the input is not a telephone number to be dialed. If the input is a telephone number, the browser is terminated and the number is dialed. Otherwise, the browser acquires the local information needed to carry out the request from the handset. The local information is appended to the URL address, which is extracted from the user input, and the browser is instructed to navigate to the URL address to provide the local information to the server.

Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for marking content in substantially real-time messaging applications using a mobile communication device. A marking application in cooperation with a messaging application displays a message communication on a graphical user interface of the mobile communication device, enables navigation to a selected position within the message communication and receives a signal to mark the selected position with a tag. A manually actuated signal is provided to mark the selected position within the message communication and receive an automatically actuated signal to mark a portion of the message communication based on a pre-defined rule. Receiving the manually actuated signal includes receiving one of: a first actuation signal from a user-selected key on a keyboard or a second actuation signal from a user-selected icon on the graphical user interface. The mobile communication device allows users to more efficiently tag and retrieve content transmitted in substantially real-time.

Abstract: An image associated with a location and depicting the current weather conditions at the location is served to the user along with the current weather data of the location. If an image for the location that aptly depicts the weather conditions as indicated by the weather data cannot be identified, the geographical area associated with the location is expanded to search for appropriate images from an expanded image pool. The expansion can continue in one or more steps until a threshold is reached beyond which the geographical area my no longer be expanded. If no images are retrieved upon reaching the threshold, an image reflecting the weather condition is selected from a fallback image set for presentation with the weather data.

Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus for tracking points of interest of a user of a mobile device are disclosed. One method includes determining points of interest of a user of a mobile device. The method includes obtaining user-related information, wherein the user-related information includes spatial information about the user, and determining at least one point of interest of the user based on the user-related information. Another embodiment includes an apparatus for determining points of interest of a user. For one embodiment, the apparatus is a mobile device. The mobile device is operative to obtain user-related information, wherein the user-related information comprising spatial information about the user, and the mobile device is operative to determine at least one point of interest of the user based on the user-related information.

Abstract: Aspects include methods, systems, and apparatuses for increasing a likelihood of advertisement display. The method may include receiving advertisement information comprising a presentation schedule and indicia indicating the first advertisement; determining, based upon the advertisement information, whether the first advertisement is located on a mobile device; retrieving the first advertisement from a remote device and storing it on a storage module on the mobile device if the first advertisement is determined to not be located on the mobile device; and rendering the first advertisement on the mobile device. The method may also include receiving advertisement information comprising a retrieval schedule and retrieving the first advertisement from a remote device by reference to the retrieval schedule. Other methods and apparatuses include determining and broadcasting advertisement information.

Abstract: Many mobile devices can access websites on the Internet. A mobile device running a web server application can host websites and provide services. For a first mobile device to access services on a second mobile device, the first mobile device needs the IP address of the second mobile device. The first mobile device sends a connection request to the second mobile device. The first mobile device receives, from the second mobile device, the network address of the second mobile device, identification of services that are available on the second mobile device, and a security token. The first mobile device selects a service and sends an HTTP or HTTPS request for the service to the network address of the second mobile device, and also sends the security token. The second mobile device authenticates the request based on the token and allows the first mobile device to access the selected service.

Abstract: Provided herein are exemplary techniques for determining and delivering, appropriate multimedia content comprising a combination of text, images, sounds, rich-text, animation, video, etc. to personal data communication devices (107), such as wireless cell-phones or wireless PDA's, based upon device specific information such as the network protocol used by the device, the network provider, the device capabilities (110), the current state of the device, user specified settings, etc. An application server (109) contains an interpreter capable of executing a set of instructions to manage the delivery and receipt of appropriate multimedia and simple text content to and from personal communication devices (107). Appropriate content (104) is sent to the personal data communication device (107) based on the network protocol used by the device, the network provider, the device capabilities, the current state of the device and user specified settings under the control of the interpreter.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing alerts to end users of networked enabled portable devices are provided so that the end users are made aware when broadcast emergency alerts are issued. In various embodiments, a portable device is enabled to receive information about an emergency alert broadcast of which the user should be aware, e.g., from the EAS, and to notify the user of the emergency alert. The user can be automatically taken to the emergency alert information by having the portable device automatically tune to the emergency broadcast information, the user can optionally retrieve the emergency information by tuning to the emergency broadcast channel, and/or the user can otherwise be presented with a reference to the emergency data, such as a link to the information.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for identifying participants for a preferential ad-hoc network using a peer-to-peer (P2P) network and then establishing the ad-hoc network with the identified participants. In general, an initiating peer node provides a request for participants for an ad-hoc network to the P2P network, wherein the request includes content information describing content stored at the initiating peer node. The content information is used by the peer nodes receiving the request to determine whether to join the ad-hock network. The peer nodes receiving the request that decide to join the ad-hoc network respond to the initiating peer node via the P2P network. All or select ones of the peer nodes responding to the request are identified as the participants for the ad-hoc network. Once the participants are identified, the initiating peer node dynamically establishes the ad-hoc network with the identified participants.

Abstract: A method is disclosed in which a server generates and transmits a reply to a mobile device via a wireless communication link in response to receiving a request from a mobile device. The reply includes first pattern information and data elements retrieved from a logical data model. The mobile device renders a first page on a screen thereof in response to receiving the reply. The first page includes visual representations of the data elements, and the first page presents the visual representations in a first pattern corresponding to the first pattern information.

Abstract: Flow computers having wireless communication protocol interfaces and related methods are disclosed. In one example, a method involves receiving a request to be sent to a wireless device in a network of wireless devices, the request to be received via a remote terminal unit application executed on a processor within a flow computer, and communicating the request to the wireless device via a communications interface module, the communications interface module to be communicatively coupled to the processor via a backplane contained within a housing of the flow computer, the backplane to provide communications according to a high speed data bus communications protocol.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a first computing device communicating with a second computing device through a communications channel transmits an out-of-band message indicative of the urgency of the communication through a notification channel. In particular embodiments, a server acts as a proxy for relaying the out-of-band message from the first device to the second device. The second device calculates an implicit urgency score based on the communication characteristics, and combines the implicit score with the explicit urgency indicator to determine whether a call is urgent. In particular embodiments, the server calculates an implicit urgency score based on a number of factors, and the score is composited with the overall urgency score. In particular embodiments, communication handling may be affected by the determination of urgency.

Abstract: A method and system for processing a subscription to an e-mail message thread. Short Message Service (SMS) data is assigned to a mobile device. Both a telephone number associated with the mobile device and the assigned SMS data are assigned to a setting in a database stored in an e-mail message server. A subscription to updates related to an e-mail message thread associated with the e-mail message server is created. The creation of the subscription includes correlating the telephone number and the SMS data to a unique e-mail message thread identifier of the e-mail message thread. The updates related to the e-mail message thread are sent to the mobile device via the e-mail message server.

Abstract: An Access Point (AP) advertises the availability of notifications, and this advertisement may be received and interpreted by stations (STAs), both by associated STAs and by non-associated STAs. Upon being informed of the availability of the notification message, a STA may take action in order to receive the notification message from the AP. Alternatively, the STA may be able to identify the notification message by analyzing the advertisement. If the contents of the notification message comprise a control message, the STA may act on the control message in a way that influences the STA's behavior. If the contents of the notification message indicate restrictions imposed by the AP, the STA may determine, in view of the restrictions, not to attempt association with the AP.

Abstract: Systems and methods of recommending that two parties form a link on a social networking system use activities conducted by the first party on a telephony system and information contained in contact or link lists stored for the second party on the social networking system to determine if the two parties are likely acquainted. If a comparison of this information indicates that the parties are likely acquainted, or at least are acquainted with common third parties, a recommendation that they form a link on the social networking system is issued to one or both parties.

Abstract: Different emergency alert messages may be provided to different mobile devices within a common geographic region subdivided into a plurality of inner regions. Each inner region may have different emergency alert messages and may be geographically located inside another region.

Abstract: A method is provided for offering content recommendations to a mobile station based on a current location of the mobile station. Records of one or more other mobile stations within a distance of the location at a set time frame can be identified. In association with the location of the other mobile station, identification of the time at which that other mobile station was at the location can be recorded. For each identified record of another mobile station, a search query or a result is then identified. In association with the location of the other mobile station, identifications of the search and/or result resident on that other mobile station can be recorded. The response to an inquiry from the mobile station is a recommendation that includes information about the identified search query and/or result resident on one or more of the other mobile stations.

Abstract: A network-enabled audio device that provides a display device that allows the user to select playlists of music much like a jukebox is disclosed. The user can compose playlists from disk files, CD's, Internet streaming audio broadcasts, online music sites, and other audio sources. The user can also select a desired Web broadcast from a list of available Web broadcasts. In addition, the user can play standard audio CD's and MP3 encoded CD's and have access to local AM/FM stations. Further, the software, the user controls, and the display in the network-enabled audio device are operably configured and connected such that the user can listen to playlists that include CD's and other audio sources just as the user would choose a playlist in a jukebox. The user accesses a server site via a PC and the Internet. From the server site, the user obtains a list of the devices in his or her Internet Personal Audio Network (IPAN) and what songs are on those devices.

Abstract: A server exchanges information between one or more wireless devices to complete a transaction. The server receives second device identifier information from a first wireless device using a wide area network. The second device identifier information was previously provided to the first wireless device using short range wireless communication. The server then uses the second device identifier information to determine additional information concerning an entity or object located in proximity to the second device, and then the server delivers information to the first wireless device based at least in part upon both (a) the second device identifier and (b) a current step in a multiple step process for an ongoing electronic commerce transaction.

Abstract: A system and method for a user to send presence information to authorized contacts in her device's address book and to receive the presence information of those contacts in her device's address book that have authorized her. A user can authorize any contact in her address book. Optionally, a user can only authorize a contact and be authorized by a contact if she is in that contact's address book. A local application on the device interacts with and displays the device's address book, manages the authorization of contacts, updates the user's presence, and receives and displays the presence of contacts. The local application updates the user's presence manually, semi-automatically, or automatically. Semi-automatic updates involve synchronizing with the device's calendar. Automatic updates may involve the use of location data, the device's built-in sensors, and augmented reality.

Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for sending and receiving user-authored information between one or more wireless mobile devices regardless of device vendor or model. The present invention has several practical applications in the technical arts including wireless telephones, personal digital assistants (PDA), or external storage devices. User-authored information such as contacts, telephone numbers, calendar events, electronic messages, or Internet preferences are converted to a file of extensible markup language (XML) and transmitted to an alternate wireless mobile device or storage device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for operating a mobile virtual network are disclosed. A mobile virtual network operator is disclosed as an entity that provides a mobile networking service to a user, the mobile networking service being provided using a physical mobile network provided by a third party. The mobile virtual network operator may provide content distribution services, data access services, or messaging services to a user of a mobile device.

Abstract: Systems and methods may provide for identifying one or more phrases in a conversation between a first user and a second user. In addition, a first visual profile may be generated based on the one or more phrases and a real-time recommendation may be generated based on the first visual profile. In one example, generating the first visual profile includes using the one or more phrases to obtain one or more images and incorporating the one or more images into the first visual profile.

Abstract: System and method of detection and management of user interactions with foreground applications on a mobile device in distributed caching are disclosed. One embodiment includes a method of mimicking, remote from the mobile device, timing characteristics of user activity with the mobile client, polling a content source for the mobile application based on the timing characteristics of the user interaction, on behalf of the mobile device and allowing responses cached on the mobile device for the user activity to be used until a change at the content source is detected, remote from the mobile device.
