  • Patent number: 8649814
Abstract: A method of managing a call group by a number of mobile devices in a mobile telecommunications network. The mobile telecommunications network includes a serving node in communication with the mobile devices. The method includes a network node identifying a radio access node adjacent a first radio access node. The method also includes a serving node creating the group call area on basis of the first and adjacent radio access nodes. The method also includes establishing a signalling channel within a cell corresponding to the adjacent radio access node. The signalling channel includes an identifier corresponding to the group call area. The radio access nodes, or base stations, that have established a data communications channel with the mobile communications device have traffic and signalling channels established therein and are marked as an active cell of the group call area.

  • Patent number: 8649493
Abstract: When making a decision about who should have control of a voice channel in a teleconference, one exemplary aspect is directed toward a voice switch mechanism that determines and takes into account a latency (such as a round trip latency) of each participant's path to the switch. The switch uses this information to ensure that short-latency paths do not have an unfair advantage over long-latency paths when individuals competitively seek control of the voice channel. Illustratively, if an individual is participating in the path that has a round trip latency of 300 ms or greater than that of other participants, the voice switch creates a level playing field even if it detects voice energy from a short-latency user first by granting control of the channel to the long-latency user if voice energy is detected from that user within 300 ms of the short-latency detection.

  • Patent number: 8645575
Abstract: An instant message associated with a conference call is received. At least some of the contents of the instant message are converted into speech, which may be represented as an audio stream. The speech is then provided to at least one participant associated with the conference call. The speech provided to the at least one participant may further include additional speech in addition to the speech corresponding to the contents of the instant message. The additional speech could, among other things, identify a participant who sent the instant message.

  • Patent number: 8644466
Abstract: The present invention provides a system for recording an interaction including, a telephone call between a caller and a digital processing system placed over an interjurisdictional boundary, and may include a telephone call placed to at least one called recipient. For example, a caller may place a telephone call over an interjurisdictional boundary to a remote computer server. The server may use an interactive voice response (IVR) unit to obtain caller identification information, provide recording identification information to the caller, and receive authorization from the caller to record an interaction between the caller and a call recipient. The server can also obtain testamentary intent information. A telephone call may then be placed by the server to the recipient, and a two-party digital voice recording can be made on the remote server of a three-way telephone call, in which the server is one of the parties.

  • Publication number: 20140031019
Abstract: Disclosed is a two-way radio frequency (RF) communications system including a first device that receives, from a first subscriber unit, a virtual radio conferencing call (VRC) request identifying a plurality of other subscriber units to be partied to the VRC call and a conference time period during which to conduct the VRC call. The device reserves RF resources at one or more corresponding radio sites associated with the subscriber units partied to the VRC call for the conference time period. At a beginning of the conference time period, the device causes a virtual radio conference call start message to be transmitted to the subscriber units partied to the call instructing the subscriber units to join the VRC call via the reserved RF resources at their respective radio sites.

  • Patent number: 8639229
Abstract: This document describes tools capable of enabling users of mobile communication devices to create communication groups quickly and easily. With such a communication group a user may call, text, or instant message all persons in the group at once by selecting the communication group rather than each person in the group. In one embodiment, the tools enable a user to build a communication group by dragging and dropping indicators for persons he or she knows from one area of a screen into another area. In another embodiment, the tools automatically collect persons from those that the user knows based on one or more criteria. The user may then easily create a communication group of those collected persons, such as by tapping on an area of a mobile device's display.

  • Patent number: 8639299
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a mobile device comprising a core phone with a detachable primary device. The core phone transfers an incoming call alert to the detached primary device by synchronizing the display frame buffer of the core phone with the display frame buffer associated with the detached primary device. A plurality of remote secondary devices can be paired with the core phone on request by said secondary devices to transfer an incoming call alert to said plurality of secondary devices and establish a connection after authorization with said detached primary device. The detachable primary device is usable by pairing with the core phone when the core phone is not used directly but remains in the vicinity. Important data in the primary device is synchronized with the core phone to avoid data loss when the primary device is accidentally dropped or lost or damaged.

  • Patent number: 8629895
Abstract: A camera can be associated with each conference participant endpoint. The camera, either frame or video-based, can monitor and detect one or more of gestures, facial recognition, emotions, and movements of the conference participant. Based on the detection of one or more of these triggering events, a correlation to an action corresponding the triggering event can be evoked. For example, if a participant raises their hand, e.g., a triggering event, the system can recognize that this is a request to speak. The participant can then be queued in the system based, for example, relative to other participants' requests. When the other participants have finished speaking, and it is the time for the user who raised their hand to speak, the system can optionally queue the user by modifying the endpoint with which they are associated.
