Abstract: A first group auditory data stream, from a transmitting subscriber device of a first group of subscriber devices or from a dispatch console and intended for the first group of subscriber devices, is received at a conference server. The conference server determines whether the first group auditory data stream generated for the first group of subscriber devices is of interest to a second group of subscriber devices, and if so, sums the first group auditory data stream with a second group auditory data stream intended for the second group of subscriber devices to form a summed group auditory data stream. The conference server then forwards the summed group auditory data stream towards the second group of subscriber devices and forwards the first group auditory data stream towards the first group of subscriber devices.

A second group auditory data stream from a transmitting subscriber device of a second group of subscriber devices is similarly received. The conference server determines a relative priority level of one of (i) the first group of subscriber devices relative to the second group of subscriber devices and (ii) the first group auditory data stream relative to the second group auditory data stream, and sets different relative signal gains of the first group auditory data stream and the second group auditory data stream as a function of the determined relative priority level. The two auditory data streams are then summed and forwarded towards the second group of subscriber devices.

Mobile users of the wireless communication system define social networking profiles storing characteristics of the user. The wireless communication system determines a location of a user's mobile communication device and identifies a set of other mobile users that are geographically proximate to the user. The wireless communication system then filters the set of other mobile users based on characteristics of the social networking profiles of the other mobile users, and transmits identifiers of the filtered set of other mobile users to the user's mobile communication device. The mobile communication device then displays the identifiers of the filtered set of other mobile users to the user allowing the user to initiate contact with any of the other mobile users that are of interest.

  • Publication number: 20140378109
Abstract: An internet-based conferencing system simulates the experience of Citizens' Band (CB) radio communications without the use of CB radio transceivers. Instead of direct RF links between participants, the CBI system employs a combination of user-resident application software, central server-based conferencing software, GPS location data, and Voice over IP (VoIP) or voice over cellular technology. In the set-up procedure of the application software, the participant selects an alias CB-style “handle” and a caricature picture, neither of which disclose the true identity or location of the participant. Since the participants are known only by their alias and caricature, their anonymity is preserved, thereby enabling greater freedom of expression and interpersonal tolerance. Participants do not select the other participants in their conference, but are assigned to a virtual “channel” based on a selected conference category and proximity criteria, thereby simulating the serendipity of CB radio communications.

Abstract: A dial-in number is provided to a participant of a conference call. A computer identifies a participant of a conference call, and attempts to determine the location of the participant. Responsive to determining the location of the participant, the computer determines a location-based dial-in number for the participant and transmits the determined location-based dial-in number to the participant. Responsive to failing to determine the location of the participant, the computer determines an alternative dial-in number for the participant and transmits the determined alternative dial-in number to the participant. The computer can determine the location of the participant based on attributes derived from a location service enabled application or device associated with the participant.
