  • Patent number: 8995994
Abstract: A telecommunications system includes a first (home) mobile telecommunications network A5 second (roamed) mobile telecommunications network B and a third (virtual) mobile telecommunications network C. The virtual network C does not have its own radio access network but uses the radio access network of network B in accordance with a commercial contract between networks B and C. Network C is a MVNO. When a mobile telecommunications device that has network A as its home network roams to network B, the mobile telecommunications device initially registers with network B as the roamed network. Conventionally, communications between network A and network B would be transmitted via a fixed communication link (25) (such as a leased line). However, in the embodiment described, the network A transmits a command to the mobile telecommunications device, instructing that device to de-register from network B and to re-register with virtual network C.

  • Patent number: 8989785
Abstract: Voicemail is received at a voicemail server and converted to an audio file format; it is then sent or streamed over a wide area network to a voice to text transcription system comprising a network of computers. One of the networked computers plays back the voice message to an operator and the operator intelligently transcribes the actual message from the original voice message by entering the corresponding text message (actually a succinct version of the original voice message, not a verbose word-for-word conversion) into the computer to generate a transcribed text message. The transcribed text message is then sent to the wireless information device from the computer. Because human operators are used instead of machine transcription, voicemails are converted accurately, intelligently, appropriately and succinctly into text messages (SMS/MMS).

  • Patent number: 8977260
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods that prevent clone devices from registering with a wireless communication network. In a particular embodiment, a wireless device exchanges communications with a wireless communication network during an initial period of time. The wireless device transfers an initial location of the wireless device during the initial period of time to an authorization system for the wireless communication network. During a second period of time, the wireless device transfers a registration request indicating a confirmation location and a location of the wireless device during the second period of time to the authorization system. The authorization system processes the registration request to validate the confirmation location based on the initial location. If the confirmation location is validated based on the initial location, then the authorization system allows the wireless device to access the wireless communication network during the second period of time.

Abstract: To distinguish between stationary and free-to-move terminal devices in a mobile communication network in order to reduce paging interference, a stationary terminal device chooses a surrounding radio cell as a home cell, which remains associated to the stationary terminal device, as long as the home cell fulfills a suitable-cell-requirement. Therefore, the communication network can be operated such that a paging request is only distributed through one base station/NodeB, if that paging request is to be forwarded to a stationary terminal device being associated to a home cell. According to another aspect of the present invention, stationary terminal devices are grouped in separate paging group that is stored in an operation unit of the mobile communication network. • Patent number: 8792902
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) sends to a serving network a request for periodic reporting of the UE location to a client entity, periodic location information, a request to use GMLC short circuit, and/or a request to use MO-LR short circuit. Various network entities may accept or reject each of the UE requests. For each location reporting event, the UE may send to the serving network its location estimate (e.g., if available and if MO-LR short circuit is allowed) and an address of a requesting GMLC (e.g., if GMLC short circuit is allowed). The network bypasses location processing if the location estimate is selected for use. The serving network may send the location estimate directly to the R-GMLC and bypass a visiting GMLC and a home GMLC, e.g., using the address provided by the UE. The GMLC short circuit and MO-LR short circuit save system resources and shorten response time.

  • Patent number: 8774762
Abstract: The present invention pertains to improved communication quality and security of transmission in cellular communication networks. A customer has the option to pay different fees for different tiers of service relating to voice quality, bandwidth access, and different tiers of service relating to communications security. Higher tiers may guarantee a specific vocoder or bit rate is used, or guarantee a specific encryption protocol is use to ensure secure communications. Different tiers may be associated with customers' records for billing purposes. The network may afford high end devices higher voice quality and/or security via a lookup table indicating what level of service is associated with a given device. Calling or receiving devices may negotiate with each other to change to a more robust vocoder or bit rate to ensure a higher quality and/or security. Furthermore, the user may opt to change the quality and/or security level before or during a call.
