  • Patent number: 8532673
Abstract: Data related to a subscriber in a communications network is to be retrieved. A first Generic User Profile (GUP) server receives an incoming request for the subscriber related data from a data consumer in a first communication domain and determines that the data is located in a second communication domain. An outgoing request for the data is then transmitted to a second GUP server in the second communication domain via an interface. The second GUP server then retrieves the requested subscriber related data from a network repository and transmits the requested data to the first GUP server, which forwards the requested data to the data consumer. Service access to subscriber data located in other domains than the GUP Server is enabled, for example when the subscriber is roaming. The subscriber related data can also be distributed in both the first and second communication domain.

  • Patent number: 8526379
Abstract: To ameliorate interference between an indoor wireless pico cell system, for example in an aircraft, and public wireless communications systems operating in a surrounding or over-flown area, frequencies of operation of the indoor system are coordinated with those used by the public wireless systems in the surrounding area. The pico cell system operates one type of service on all or a portion of a band used for a different type of service by the public system. In the aircraft example, a pico cell system might support GSM narrowband service and CDMA broadband service. The airborne GSM operations use a portion, e.g. corresponding to a guard band, of CDMA service spectrum in the terrestrial network. The airborne CDMA service uses a band used for GSM service by the terrestrial network. The pico cell system dynamically changes its frequency band(s), as the aircraft flies over different areas.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for providing roaming services to an HPMN's prepaid subscriber. The method includes facilitating the prepaid subscriber's registration at a VPMN by an SG, despite absence of the prepaid subscriber's roaming profile at an HPMN HLR. The HPMN and the VPMN are part of one or more partner networks and are unable to support IN protocol/agreement. The SG is deployed at either the HPMN, or an HPMN's MVNO, or a hub operator. The method further includes enabling mobile communication of the prepaid subscriber in the VPMN by the SG that converts protocol of all signaling messages, corresponding to the prepaid subscriber, into a format compatible with the HPMN. The method further includes billing the prepaid subscriber based on pre-defined criteria by using the SG that interfaces with an HPMN PPS via either: an HPMN SCP, or an HPMN service node, or an HPMN SMSC.

  • Patent number: 8359028
Abstract: Methods and devices for mitigating the impact of handoffs to non-preferred wireless coverage areas are presented. In particular, a RAN may determine that a first wireless communication device (WCD) and a second WCD are contending for a resource of a preferred wireless coverage area, and that both of the WCDs are likely to be handed off to non-preferred wireless coverage area(s) if they are not granted the resource. Both WCDs may be subscribed to a home wireless service provider that also controls and/or operates the preferred wireless coverage area. The RAN may compare historical call length data of the first WCD with historical call length data of the second WCD. Based on the outcome of this comparison, the RAN may allocate the resource to the WCD that would likely incur higher roaming fees to the home wireless service provider if that WCD were to roam to a non-preferred wireless coverage area.
