Control Or Access Channel Scanning Patents (Class 455/434)
  • Patent number: 9565685
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are described for wireless communications coexistence. In one aspect, a first device may detect an interference produced by a second device co-located with the first device. The first device may communicate with an access point (AP) using a free or open band and the second device may communicate with a cellular network (e.g., LTE network). In response to the detected interference, a message may be transmitted to the AP from the first device with information for the AP to determine whether to switch to a different channel in the open band to communicate with the first device. The AP may receive such a message from each terminal in at least a subset of associated terminals. The AP may determine, from the messages received, to switch to the different channel in the open band and may transmit a message to the associated terminals indicating the switch.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to allow the idle period to be defined in a more tailored manner, such as on a per station or per class of stations basis, as opposed to on a per access point basis. In the context of a method, an indication of an idle period is caused to be provided to a station. The method also causes an association with the station to be maintained for a period of time that is at least partially defined by the idle period. The period of time for which an association is maintained with the station is different than a period of time for which an association is maintained with another station in an absence of communication with the another station. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also provided.

  • Patent number: 9439225
Abstract: A stationary access terminal, such as a stationary remote sensor, capable of wireless communication with a network is provided. The access terminal obtains sector information associated with a wireless network node by establishing a communication link with the network node. The access terminal then stores the sector information in non-volatile memory, and later retrieves the sector information from the memory, for example, after a subsequent boot up or wake up event. The stored sector information is used by the access terminal to establish a subsequent communication link with the network node, and may include at least one of channel, band, and pseudo-random number sequence information. The access terminal may also store overhead messages received from the network node in the non-volatile memory. The stored overhead messages may later be retrieved to establish system operating parameters of the network node after the subsequent boot up or wake up event.

  • Patent number: 9432505
Abstract: Performing data communications by a Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) user equipment (UE), while simultaneously conducting two concurrent voice calls. The UE may receive a request to perform data communications while conducting a first voice call on a first radio and concurrently conducting a second voice call on a second radio. The UE may then determine whether one of the voice calls is currently on hold. The UE may perform the data communications using the radio on which the held call is being conducted. The UE may therefore dynamically select available slots from the first radio and the second radio for performing the data communication, based on which of the first radio and the second radio has a voice call that is currently on hold. In some embodiments, the data communications may be performed using a Long Term Evolution (LTE) protocol stack.

Abstract: Adaptive out-of-service search behavior by a wireless user equipment (UE) device. The UE may perform cellular communications according to a radio access technology (RAT). It may be determined that cellular service according to the RAT is not available. A search algorithm may be selected from at least two possible search algorithms. A search for cellular service according to the RAT may be performed according to the search algorithm. The various possible search algorithms may specify different ratios of time spent scanning for cellular service to time spent sleeping. The selected search algorithm may be chosen based on any or all of an estimated remaining battery life of the UE, a user activity level, user input, or various other considerations.

  • Patent number: 9420524
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus are described for provisioning wireless communication devices. One embodiment includes a communication device that determines an operating channel corresponding to an AP having the highest received signal strength measurement. The communication device operates in an AP mode with another communication device on this same channel to facilitate provisioning of the other communication device with the AP. Another embodiment includes a communication device that operates as a station in a first wireless network and as an AP in a second wireless network with another communication device. The communication device determines a transmission time waiting interval corresponding to communication device AP mode transmissions and divides the channels into groups that can be scanned within the transmission time waiting interval. The communication device scans these channel subgroups to identify other APs available for provisioning the other communication device.

  • Patent number: 9402232
Abstract: A method of cell reselection enhancement is proposed. A UE obtains parameters for extended cell reselection (ECR) in a mobile communication network. The UE goes to sleep and then wakes up periodically to monitor a paging channel. The UE either applies a normal paging cycle having a normal paging cycle length or applies a power-saving paging cycle having a very long paging cycle length. The UE performs cell selection if normal paging cycle is applied. The UE performs cell reselection based on the ECR parameters if the power-saving paging cycle is applied, and if the ECR parameters are still valid based on a list of conditions. In one novel aspect, the network provides the ECR parameters for a wider area for the UE such that the UE can still use cell reselection after waking up from a very long sleep to reduce power consumption.

  • Patent number: 9398532
Abstract: An enhanced paging mechanism is provided for UEs waking up from a very long paging cycle to improve paging robustness and flexibility. Enhanced paging includes absolute time paging (ATP) and paging with extended wakeup time. For absolute time paging, a UE receives ATP configuration and uses the actual wall time to calculate paging occasion if a condition is satisfied. In one embodiment, the wall time is acquired from at least one of an internal UE clock, a GPS time, information broadcasted from the network, or information from a higher layer signaling. For paging with extended wakeup time, a UE applies a long paging cycle followed by multiple normal paging cycles after waking up from the long paging cycle. In one embodiment, the long paging cycle is infinite and the UE enters normal paging cycle only upon TAU-triggered paging or uplink traffic.

  • Patent number: 9398520
Abstract: Techniques for performing system searches to find a suitable cell to receive full service while camped on a cell with limited service are described. Initially, a user equipment (UE) may camp on a first cell and receive limited service. The UE may perform a system search in background to find a suitable cell to receive full service. By performing the system search in background, the UE can receive paging messages and perform cell reselection and/or other tasks while the system search is pending and may also be able to obtain limited service with little or no delay when requested by a user. The UE may suspend the system search prior to each paging occasion, receive paging messages applicable for the UE, and then resume the system search. The UE may receive a request for limited service (e.g., emergency call), suspend or abort the system search, and obtain the requested limited service.

  • Patent number: 9392420
Abstract: A system and method for enhanced support for handling of Closed Subscriber Groups (CSGs) and sharing of Radio Access Network (RAN) for home base stations and other small cells. An enhanced System Information (SI) structure indicates multiple CSG IDs and CSG Indications, thereby making it possible to support different CSG IDs and CSG Indications for every Public Land Mobile Network Identity (PLMN-ID) and also to support a PLMN-ID with multiple associated CSG IDs and CSG Indications. The enhanced SI makes it possible to have different CSG IDs for different operators, to have multiple CSG IDs for one operator (i.e., a single PLMN), and to selectively use the CSG concept for some PLMNs (as given by their respective CSG Indications), but not for all. A network of base stations (e.g., a RAN) thus can be effectively shared by multiple operators, leading to better cellular coverage, peak rates, and capacity.

  • Patent number: 9386431
Abstract: Mobile user equipment (MUE) can be enabled to search for and camp on a preferred node, such as a home base node (HBN), in a battery-efficient manner even when currently camped on another node, such as a macro base node (MBN). When the MBN provides good channel quality, slow rate background intra- and inter-frequency searches can discover the preferred HBN that would otherwise not be discovered or would consume excessive power with continual searching. When channel quality is fair, slow rate background inter-frequency searches can result in timely switching to the preferred HBN. Location hints that indicate proximity of the preferred HBN can be used to trigger slow rate background searches. Neighboring cell searching of neighbor cell listing (NCL) when in channel quality is fair or poor are maintained to prepare for call reselections to available node.
