  • Patent number: 9668192
Abstract: A first network node has first antenna nodes located along a track and associated with a first cell. Some of them serve a first cell overlap region that overlaps a second cell overlap region of second antenna nodes connected to a second network node. Some first antenna nodes form downlink beams in a same direction with power levels controlled such that respective amounts of overlap between the downlink beams and respective power levels of the downlink beams jointly cause the first cell's overlap region to emulate a cell border for a user equipment travelling at high speed. Emulated cell border signal power is lower at locations closer to an emulated cell outer edge than at more distant locations. Emulated cell border length is sufficient to cause the travelling user equipment to be within the emulated cell border long enough to successfully perform a handover between the first and second cells.

Abstract: Techniques for efficiently sending reports in a wireless communication system are described. Reports may be sent repetitively in accordance with a reporting format. A terminal receives an assignment of a control channel used to send reports and determines a reporting format to use based on the assignment. The reporting format indicates a specific sequence of reports sent in specific locations of a control channel frame. The terminal generates a set of reports for each reporting interval and arranges the set of reports in accordance with the reporting format. The terminal repetitively sends a plurality of sets of reports in a plurality of reporting intervals. Reports may also be sent adaptively based on operating conditions. An appropriate reporting format may be selected based on the operating conditions of the terminal, which may be characterized by environment (e.g., mobility), capabilities, QoS, and/or other factors.

Abstract: A radio receives audio information on a first traffic channel in a radio frequency (RF) site. The radio receives, on the first traffic channel, an announcement of alternative traffic channels on which the audio information is also transmitted in adjacent RF sites. The radio determines signal strength indicators for the alternative traffic channels in the adjacent RF sites while continuing to receive the audio information on the first traffic channel. The radio determines that a signal strength associated with the first traffic channel is below a first threshold. Based on the determination and as a function of the scanning, the radio roams to a second traffic channel, selected from the alternative traffic channels, in an adjacent RF site where a signal strength associated with the second traffic channel is above a second threshold. Abstract: When a user equipment (UE) is communicating wirelessly over a wireless communication network and terminates wireless communication temporarily due to power limit constraints (such as to satisfy a specific absorption rate (SAR) threshold), the UE may maintain its radio access network (RAN) identification (ID) and domain context, in order to quickly resume wireless communication, and avoid upper layer connection setup, once the UE is no longer power limited.

  • Patent number: 9467950
Abstract: A system is implemented on a wireless network for adjusting a forward link power control parameter based on forward link feedback. A wireless unit is in communication with several base stations during soft handoff, and provides feedback relating to forward link quality, e.g., forward link pilot signal strength or traffic channel frame error rate. The feedback is compared to a comparison or reference point (such as target frame error rate, or a maximum pilot signal strength in the active set) chosen for gauging the quality or nature of the feedback for power control purposes. Based on this comparison, a power control parameter of one or more of the base stations may be adjusted upwards or downward. The power control parameter may be a forward link reference transmit power level “Pref” used to control base station power transmission levels in the presence of power control bit errors.

  • Patent number: 9426685
Abstract: A UE, in an idle mode, receives pilot signals and synchronization signals from a serving cell and neighbor cells comprising neighbor cells listed and/or unlisted in a neighboring cell list. The UE validates each of the serving cell, the listed neighbor cells and the unlisted neighbor cells from the received signals. The UE performs cell measurement on the listed cells as well as the unlisted cells for multipath profiles and associated power levels. In instances where number of attempts of the cell measurements on the unlisted cells exceeds a threshold value, the UE may validate presence of the unlisted cells. The best available cell is selected from the listed cells and the unlisted for the UE to camp on. I/Q samples of the received signals are stored while measuring or monitoring the cells. The stored I/Q samples may be utilized to carry out baseband procedures through offline processing.

  • Patent number: 9398509
Abstract: Methods and systems for dynamic parameter selection are provided. A station receives a condition measurement report from user equipment (UE) served by the station. The condition measurement report includes a signal strength indication, which includes a strength of a reference signal measured by the UE that is received by the UE over the air from the station. The wireless communication network includes a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. A parameter controller compares the signal strength indication to a signal strength threshold, to identify a change in the strength of the reference signal. The parameter controller selects an alternate parameter value of a parameter associated with hand-over that is different from a current parameter value, responsive to the identified change in the reference signal strength. The station sends an instruction to the UE served by the station to perform hand-over measurement reporting using the selected alternate parameter value.

  • Patent number: 9363723
Abstract: A heterogeneous network comprising macro network devices and micro network devices operates to maintain a dynamic data set of neighbor relations for a potential transfer of a User Equipment (UE) device from one network zone to another network zone. In response to detecting a failure of a macro network device to establish a network connection with a network device, a dynamic management of the data set initiates. A capacity number of network connections is determined for the macro network device (e.g., macro eNB sector carrier) based on the data set of neighbor relations. A threshold number is determined from the network neighbor device data, representing the set of micro network devices with which the macro network device is operable to establish the network. A defined number of micro network devices is maintained that is less than the threshold number of the network neighbor device data.
