  • Patent number: 8738009
Abstract: A mobile station receives forward link signals and transmits reverse link signals for a communication session conducted via a wireless network. A controller maintains a reverse-active set that defines which sectors of the wireless network are used to receive the reverse link signals. When the mobile station transmits a request signal requesting the communication session, the controller may create the reverse-active set to include the sector that received the request signal with the highest signal strength. During the communication session, the signal strengths of the reverse link signals may be monitored in each of a plurality of sectors to obtain reverse-link signal strengths. The controller may maintain the reverse-active set based on the reverse-link signal strengths, adding sectors that report reverse-link signal strengths greater than an add threshold and dropping sectors that report reverse-link signal strengths less than a drop threshold.

  • Patent number: 8699463
Abstract: A femtocell base station 10a suspends transmission and reception of radio waves to and from a radio communication terminal 30 of an accommodation object when the radio communication terminal 30 is not in the neighborhood of the femtocell base station 10a. The femtocell base station 10a determines whether the radio communication terminal 30 is in the neighborhood of the femtocell base station 10a based on information of a UATI update notification provided through another base station in communication with the radio communication terminal 30 and, when the radio communication terminal 30 is in the neighborhood of the femtocell base station 10a, starts receiving the radio waves from the radio communication terminal 30.

Abstract: A method for managing mobility of an Access Terminal (AT) using a Proxy Mobile Internet Protocol in a mobile communication system. Access authentication is performed between the AT and an Authentication, Authorization and Accounting server. The AT sends a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Server Discover message including information for authentication check to an Access Gateway (AG) while performing the access authentication. The AG sends a Proxy Registration Request message including information for mobility management for the AT to a Home Agent (HA). The AG receives from the HA a Proxy Registration Response message indicating a successful reception of the Proxy Registration Request message. The AG sends a DHCP Offer message including a Home Address (HoA) of a corresponding AT and sends a DHCP Acknowledgement message for accepting use of the HoA, to the AT, when the AT notifies the AG of its intention to use the HoA.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention describe methods for increasing the amount of information available to a mobile transmit diversity transmitter during soft handoff. According to embodiments of the invention, a transmit diversity transmitter may determine substantially when it is in uplink communication with one base station and downlink communication with another base station. The mobile device may transmitting a diversity signal by controlling a value of a transmit diversity parameter based on feedback signals from the downlink base station, and controlling a power level in accordance with a standard protocol, e.g. combination of transmit power control feedbacks provided by the active base stations.

Abstract: A first communication device and a method in a node serving a first cell of a first frequency for controlling transmission power of a user equipment in the first cell, comprising receiving data relating to a second cell of the first frequency from the user equipment and determining to power regulate the user equipment. Determining to power regulate the user equipment is based on determining that the second cell is a cell to which a soft handover cannot be performed and determining that the user equipment is within a range of a cell border of the first cell. That being the case, the method further comprises transmitting a control message to the user equipment to control the transmission power of the user equipment.

  • Patent number: 8693966
Abstract: A method for filtering out a useful signal of a mobile radio terminal from a plurality of superimposed signals having a signal quality received by base stations in a cellular mobile radio network. The superimposed signal of the mobile radio terminal is detected by base stations that are reached and the signal quality of the received and superimposed signal of every base station reached is determined. The signal quality of a selected base station is then transmitted to a decision element and a selection of a selected base station is made by the decision element to decode the useful signal of the mobile radio terminal. The invention also relates to a device for filtering out a useful signal of a mobile radio terminal from a plurality of superimposed signals received by base stations in a cellular mobile radio network.

Abstract: When transmitting data from a data relay apparatus to a mobile station through a plurality of base stations, the plurality of base stations add sequence numbers to the data and transmits the data with the sequence number. The data relay apparatus transfers a first data and second data to the mobile station through different base stations among the plurality of base stations, in which the data relay apparatus transfers the first data received before the second data to one base station and transfers the second data while adding thereto information indicating the reception order of the first and second data. Each of the plurality of base stations, when the data transferred from the data relay apparatus contains the information added thereto, adds the sequence number to the data based on the information and transmits the data with the sequence numbers to the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 8688119
Abstract: When a user equipment (UE) is in a CONNECTED state with a base station of a wireless network and is also in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode, a DRX parameter such as DRX period for the UE is compared with a threshold. If the DRX parameter is at or below the threshold, the UE applies a network controlled mobility mode with UE assist where the network controls handover of the UE to another cell. If the DRX parameter is above the threshold, the UE applies a UE controlled mobility mode in which the UE is free to select a best cell. In this way, DRX benefit of reduced power consumption is maintained while the time period in which the UE is unreachable is minimized.

Abstract: A method for transmitting a mobility state is provided in the present invention, the method includes: when an source evolved NodeB (eNB) performs a handover of a user equipment (UE) in a connectivity state, it sends the UE historical information to a target eNB; the target eNB decides a mobility state of the UE according to the UE historical information. Alternatively, when the source eNB performs a handover of the UE in a connectivity state, it decides the mobility state of the UE according to the UE historical information, sets the corresponding mobility state instruction information and sends it to the target eNB; the target eNB acquires the mobility state corresponding to the UE according to the received mobility state instruction information. A system for transmitting a mobility state is also provided in the present invention.

  • Patent number: 8687598
Abstract: Disclosed is a method the present method may help to minimize or avoid ping-ponging between coverage areas of a wireless communication system, by having a radio access network (RAN) give special consideration to power control commands after receipt of a wireless communication device's (WCD's) handoff request. After the RAN receives the WCD's request for handoff from a first coverage area to a second coverage area, the RAN evaluates power control commands from the WCD for the first coverage area for a time period after the handoff request and, based on the evaluation, determines whether the WCD continues to experience poor RF conditions in the first coverage area 22. If so, the RAN may then allow the handoff (e.g., if other conditions such as channel resource availability are met). And otherwise, the RAN may abort the handoff.
