Abstract: Providing for cooperative sensing in wireless communications that improves user terminal throughput and minimizes interference is described herein. According to some aspects, a network entity, such as a base station, can assign a set of SUTs to measure a subset of wireless channels in a target frequency according to a cooperative sensing arrangement. In particular aspects, this assignment can be implemented so as to increase or maximize potential traffic throughput of those SUTs within the target frequency, in a given wireless time slot. In this manner, cooperative sensing can be structured so as to provide more efficient traffic communications within the target frequency.

Origination location and destination location information is entered, and a route between the locations along which wireless telephone system coverage is available is returned. If the returned route is less preferable than another possible route along which there are areas of poor coverage or no coverage, the provider of the wireless telephone system is informed, and this information can be used to identify areas in which improved coverage would most benefit mobile telephone users. A warning may also be provided to inform the parties to a call that a participant using a mobile telephone is about to enter an area of poor coverage or of no coverage. Abstract: The suitability of a fixed or current mobile operating location for the receiver (19) in a data memory (13, 15) for picking up the consumption data (12) transmitted by a data radio channel in a wireless local data capture system (11) from consumption points (14) to a data memory (13, 15) can easily and reliably be qualitatively assessed in situ or for the purpose of remote diagnosis by virtue of a channel scan being initiated and the memory receiver (17) performing an RSSI measurement, which is preferably presented as a histogram (20) against current channel use. This renders permanent sources of interference and link budget problems in the data radio (particularly UHF) channel and also temporary sources of interference and collision problems in this channel identifiable and thereby avoids costly receiver location changes, without use of radio-specific specialist personnel, after a site has previously been selected for the receiver installation only empirically but inexpediently.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting beacon signals in a wireless communications network. For a given cell site, a single frequency may be used for the beacon signal by assigning different beacon signal time slots to different sectors of the cell site. During one time slot, the beacon signal is transmitted to one of the sectors, and during another one of the time slots, the beacon signal is transmitted to a different one of the sectors. Because a single frequency can be used for all of the sectors of a cell site, more frequencies are available for other purposes, such as for user traffic, for example. The invention improves spectral efficiency, reduces adjacent channel interference and co-channel interference and allows power consumption to be controlled.

  • Patent number: 8738000
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for indicating problems data from, typically automatically, entered cell relations is compared to site location information and mobile measurements, if available. An indication of a possible problem is triggered if the comparison indicates that the cell added as neighbors are not suitable as defined by one or many threshold functions. In accordance with one embodiment method of problem indication generation in a cellular radio system is provided. An apparatus receives a neighbor cell relation entries and site location information. The received information is compared and a problem indication is generated if the comparison indicates that cells entered neighbor cells are not close to each other as defined by at least one threshold values.

Abstract: Each evolved node B (eNB) or each cell site included in a network is uniquely identified. Identifiers may be assigned to geographical segments of a geographic area spanned by a network and to the cell sites included in each geographic segment. The eNBs included in each cell site are also assigned cell site-level identifiers. An individual eNB is assigned a unique identifier that combines the identifier of the geographical segment including the eNB, the geographical segment-level identifier of cell site corresponding to the eNB, and the cell site-level identifier of the eNB. Cell sites are also identified using an identifier value that combines the system identification number assigned to each cell, a value identifying devices used to provide connectivity to the cell, and a number assigned to each cell into a unique identifier value for the cell site.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed for improving communications on feedback transmission channels, in which there is a possibility of bit errors. The basic solutions to counter those errors are: proper design of the CSI vector quantizer indexing (i.e., the bit representation of centroid indices) in order to minimize impact of index errors, use of error detection techniques to expurgate the erroneous indices and use of other methods to recover correct indices.
