Hybrid Allocation Patents (Class 455/451)
  • Patent number: 7539497
Abstract: Obtaining channel quality information in a wireless communication network is described. A base station allocates a resource to remote stations in order to receive channel quality information back from remote stations. The resource allocated to a remote station contains no higher layer data. A scheduler in the base station uses the channel quality information in order to schedule remote stations and/or to decide on the channel coding and/or modulation to be applied to the data transmission. A mechanism is provided to ensure that data transmitted on HS-DSCH is not transmitted to higher layers. This may provide a convenient method of obtaining channel quality information allowing for improved scheduling and thus improved performance of the communication system.

  • Patent number: 7515555
Abstract: The present invention addresses a problem that switching antennas along with an unexpected variation of a received electrical field strength brings about a loss over a long period of data transmission. According to a wireless LAN transceiver in which the present invention is implemented, when a data throughput attained by an application layer poses no problem, switching antennas is disabled. Consequently, the data throughput can be kept satisfactory. Namely, since whether the antennas are switched is not determined with an unexpected variation of an RSSI signal or an error rate in a lower layer, unnecessary switching of the antennas can be prevented. A loss derived from the switching of the antennas can be minimized over a long period of time.

The secondary radios (43, 44) may signal to each other during the TI frame. Alternatively, the quiescent period may be a gap in channel activity, in which case regulated access telegrams (96) are transmitted by either a calling primary device (141), or a “last to call” primary device (141), or a base station (141), the regulated access telegrams determining a reservation window period during which secondary devices (143, 144) may signal to one another.

Abstract: Base station controlled vertical handoff is disclosed. When a hybrid access terminal is operating under a first air interface protocol (e.g., IS-2000), in a mode (e.g., active) in which the terminal does not search for the presence of wireless service under a second air interface protocol (e.g., IS-856), the terminal sends a request to a base station seeking to hand off to a wireless coverage area under the protocol. The base station then determines (e.g., by reference to the PN offset specified in the request) that the target coverage area additionally provides service under the second protocol. Responsively, the base station causes the terminal to transition to a second mode (e.g., dormant) in which the terminal does search for the presence of service under the second protocol. The terminal may thereby discover the presence of service under the second protocol and may hand off to operate under the second protocol.

Abstract: In a system for sharing hybrid resources in an independent network, each one of a plurality of stations preferably employs a sharing authority transferring protocol that allows the network control function to be moved from station to station depending on the network traffic. Although a distributed coordination method is normally used in the network, when an individual station determines that a real-time data stream is intended for the station, an apparatus having a method and data format for the use thereof allows control to be transferred to the targeted station. Abstract: A digital device 310 with a plurality of collocated wireless networks encounters inter-network interference if the collocated wireless networks operate in a common operating frequency. A coordinator unit 510, coupled to the plurality of wireless networks, provides a transmission reservation system wherein a wireless network with a need to transmit can request and receive a reservation for time to transmit. The coordinator unit 510 provides a way to schedule transmissions from the plurality of wireless networks and to reduce the probability of collisions.

  • Patent number: 7411925
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for switchover from an active processor to a standby processor in a route processor system. An up-to-date copy of information used by a supervisor process at the active processor is ensured by determining necessary event states. One type of event state includes message requests, processing and replies. Three basic types of communication between three different entities (blade, wireless domain services (WDS) and supervisor) are governed by three types of communication protocols: WLCCP between a blade and WDS, LCP between a supervisor and a blade, and checkpoint-type messages between two supervisors.

Abstract: A method of wireless communication. The method includes the step of transmitting at least a first sub-frame from a first voice frame. If the first sub-frame is received by the wireless unit, an acknowledgement message is transmitted, and the remaining sub-frames from that voice frame are not transmitted. If the first sub-frame is not received by the wireless unit, however, a non-acknowledgement message is transmitted. Here, the base station retransmits at least another sub-frame from the first voice frame.

  • Patent number: 7406325
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of allocating links in a base station of a 1×EVDO (EVolution Data Only) system. Conventionally, since a 1×EVDO system sequentially allocates a link to a user who requested a call setup irrespective of the link status, some of the allocated links may suffer from overload that eventually decreases the data transmission rate for the user. However, in order to perform the link allocation in due consideration of the link status, the present invention uses a link database including various status information, such as an equipment confirmation flag, a block flag, a current status, the total call user number, and the current call user number. With the status information, a base station control processor (BCP) in the 1×EVDO system of the present invention distributes traffic loads among the links and ensures an optimized data transmission rate.

Abstract: A method and a packet data network for providing broadcast/multicast services (BCMCS) to a mobile terminal (MT). The method receives at a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server from the MT, for requesting an IP address of a primary BCMCS controller that serves the packet data network. The method retrieves the IP address of the primary BCMCS controller and responds to the MT with a response message from the DHCP server to the MT, the response message includes the IP address of the primary BCMCS controller. Next, the MT uses the IP address of the primary BCMCS controller and sends a Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request message from the MT to the primary BCMCS controller for requesting BCMCS services, the HTTP request message including a location information and an access type indicator of the MT. Afterwards, a list of available BCMCS programs is provided to the MT.

Abstract: Provided is a method of cross-paging including transmitting mobile terminal location information from a mobile communication system to a heterogeneous mobile communication system after the mobile terminal location registration. The mobile communication system is then requested to page the mobile terminal according to the received information in the heterogeneous mobile communication system and, then the mobile terminal is paged. Further provided is a method of cross-paging that includes determining whether the mobile terminal has been location-registered in the mobile communication system or in the heterogeneous mobile communication system with reference to pre-registered mobile terminal location information when a mobile terminal paging request occurs in the heterogeneous mobile communication system.

Abstract: Upon determining (11) a need to transmit a message (such as a paging message) to a mobile station within a multi-band wireless communications system, the system (via, for example, a mobile switching center) identifies (12) discrete geographic locations within the system having a likelihood of presently supporting the mobile station and further identifies (13) a band within the multi-band system that also has a present likelihood of presently supporting the mobile station. This information is then used (14) (for example, by a base station controller) to identify one or more communication resources to be allocated for use when transmitting the message.

  • Patent number: 7327716
Abstract: A mobile station transmits sub-packets at a specified transmission rate or an autonomous transmission rate based on a PERSISTENCE bit. The mobile station increments, decrements, or does not change the transmission rate when the PERSISTENCE bit is a second logic state and a rate control bit (RCB) value is a first, a second, or a third value. Another embodiment of the present invention includes an ALL_ACID_IND bit that instructs the mobile station to adjust the specified transmission rate for either a single H-ARQ channel or for all H-ARQ channels. In an alternate embodiment, the mobile station uses the RCB in conjunction with a NAK to adjust a transmission-to-pilot ratio. After the NAK, the mobile station monitors the RCB value to increase the transmission rate, decrease the transmission rate, or not to change the transmission rate of subsequent sub-packets of the same data packet.
