Accordingly, data can be transmitted and received simultaneously through multiple channels, and time consumption for the data transmission and reception can be greatly reduced.

The invention may also detect trigger events related one mass media broadcasts. An interface translates between the different protocols of the wireless and the external or wireline networks to allow for automatic call redirection. The application can be utilized between many networks and facilitates the utilization of the architecture of a wirelined network and the home location register of the wireless network for various applications on the wireless network.

With this arrangement, it is possible to capture an appropriate channel if an unsuitable channel is selected and the portable communication equipment falls into a condition when a system was lost.

Operation of at least one of the plurality of STAs is modified to be consistent with the long slot time. In altering the operation the STA sets a local Long Slot Termination Time (LSTT). When a Target Beacon Transition Time (TBTT) is before the local LSTT, a beacon is transmitted that indicates that the long slot time is to be used and that includes the local LSTT. When the TBTT is after the local LSTT, a beacon is transmitted that indicates that the short slot time is to be used.
