  • Patent number: 8521201
Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-iteration based channel assignment optimization method and a channel assignment optimization apparatus. The channel assignment optimization method comprises a channel assignment optimization path searching phase and a channel switching phase. During the channel assignment optimization path searching phase, the IBS negotiates with neighboring base stations so as to detect a channel assignment optimization path through multiple iterations. Merely after successfully detecting a feasible channel assignment optimization path, IBS and its neighboring base stations initiate a channel switching process, such that useless channel switching may be avoided. Besides, in order to avoid the problem of incapability of timely convergence during the iteration process, a threshold of iteration times is preset.

  • Patent number: 8515391
Abstract: In one embodiment, a scheme is provided for customization of a mobile communications device's data session retry mechanism in a wireless packet data service network. Upon detecting that a cause code has been returned by a node disposed in a wireless packet data service network, a structure is interrogated to determine if the cause code is mapped to a flag relating to the device's data session retry mechanism. Responsive to determining that the received cause code is mapped as a critical cause code, the data session retry mechanism of the mobile communications device is disabled so that further signaling messages towards the network are prevented.

  • Patent number: 8351371
Abstract: A method and apparatus for minimizing redundant enhanced uplink (EU) allocation requests and fault-isolating EU transmission failures that occur between a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and a Node-B. The WTRU transmits an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) allocation request to the Node-B over an uplink (UL) EU channel. In one embodiment, if E-DCH allocation cannot be provided within a predetermined time period, the Node-B sends an acknowledgement message to the WTRU via a downlink (DL) EU signaling channel without sending E-DCH allocation information. The request is queued in the Node-B and the WTRU refrains from transmitting the same request until after the time period expires or resources become available. In another embodiment, appropriate actions are taken to correct EU transmission failures by determining whether an E-DCH allocation request was unsuccessfully delivered via the UL EU channel or whether channel allocation information was unsuccessfully delivered via the DL EU signaling channel.

When, at the expiry of the service check timer, the data connection is determined to be lost, the connection method is employed.

  • Patent number: 8107985
Abstract: In one illustrative method, a method in a mobile station for use in reducing delays for data communications is described. The mobile station causes a request for packet data service to be sent to a wireless communication network. If the request for the packet data service is denied in response to the request, then the mobile station is set in a deregistered state. In addition, the mobile station initializes a timer with an initial value that is less than a periodic location update timer value which is broadcasted by the wireless communication network, and runs the timer. In response to an expiration of the timer, the mobile station causes another request for the packet data service to be sent to the wireless communication network.

Abstract: The present method adds uplink data to a transmission request sent to the base station from the mobile station for obtaining permission for data transmission, or to a channel establishment request sent from the mobile station to the base station for establishing a channel in order to send the transmission request therethrough. This makes it possible to suppress delay caused by negotiation prior to actual uplink data transmission as much as possible, thereby realizing efficient uplink data transmission, that is, improved throughput of uplink communication.

Abstract: A mobile station accesses a base station by randomly selecting a first reverse link common control channel from a set of random access channels. The mobile station transmits a request portion of an access probe over the first reverse link common control channel. The request portion is subject to collision with other signals. The request portion comprises a hash identification which is derived from a uniquely identifying number using a hash function. The hash identification quasi-uniquely identifies the mobile station. The mobile station receives a channel assignment message from the base station designating the hash identification and a reserved access channel. The reserved access channel provides communication with a low probability of contention. The mobile station transmits a message portion of the access probe over the reserved access channel.

A network forwarding path is determined based on the signal strength of an access point signal received at client stations within the network, referred to as the OASS. In particular embodiments, a station that is either originating or forwarding a frame inserts its own OASS into the frame before transmitting it and a client station that receives a frame forwards it only if its own OASS exceeds the frame-enclosed OASS, illustratively by at least a predetermined amount.
