  • Patent number: 8611897
Abstract: A method for assigning a location area to a mobile device for use in circuit switched fallback from a first radio access network to a second radio access network. Two counters are implemented at the eNode B—a first counter to count the numbers of times a mobile reports a given last-used location area code and a second counter for counting the numbers of certain unique combinations of location area code and further identifying data. Whenever the eNode B receives a signal incorporating a location area code, checking the respective first counter for that code and conditionally incrementing the first counter such that if the first counter is below a predefined threshold the first counter is incremented. If the first counter is equal to the threshold, obtaining further identifying data in addition to the location area code and incrementing the corresponding second counter.

Abstract: A communication method of a macro base station including reporting information about a broadcast channel section in order to identify a femtocell in the macrocell, is provided. The macro base station receives position information of a mobile terminal and a request for information about neighboring femto base stations from the mobile terminal, when the mobile terminal identifies an accessible femto base station in the broadcast channel section. The macro base station generates a list of the neighboring femto base stations and information about the neighboring femto base stations based on the position information of the mobile terminal, and transmits the list and the information about the neighboring femto base stations to the mobile terminal.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described that facilitate improving paging signal strength at or near sector perimeters in a wireless network region by transmitted identical paging waveforms simultaneously from all sectors in the region and permitting over-the-air signal aggregation to combine signal energy near sector perimeters. Waveforms can be modulated using an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing technique and can be simultaneously transmitted according to predefined transmission resources over a multi-sector broadcast paging channel reserved for such identical waveforms. Cyclic prefix can be added to the identical waveforms to mitigate problems associated with delay spread and/or time-of-arrival differences at or near sector perimeters.

Abstract: Methods and systems of continuously optimizing data in WiFi positioning systems. A location-based services system uses WiFi-enabled devices to monitor WiFi access points in a target area to indicate whether a WiFi access point has moved relative to its previously recorded location. A WiFi-enabled device communicates with WiFi access points within range of the WiFi-enabled device so that observed WiFi access points identify themselves; A reference database is accessed to obtain information specifying a recorded location for each observed WiFi access point in the target area. The recorded location information is used for each of the observed WiFi access points in conjunction with predefined rules to infer whether an observed WiFi access point has moved relative to its recorded location. The reference database is informed of the identity of any observed WiFi access point that is inferred to have moved.
