  • Patent number: 9049701
Abstract: Transmission of data from a portable communication device to a base station via a radio frequency signal uses a plurality of modulation and coding schemes and a protocol that has recurring frames. Each frame has a plurality of transmission slots, different numbers of which can be used to transmit data. When it is desired to transmit data, a higher rate than was used previously, an attempt is made to increase the number transmission slots being used. If doing so, produces a transmission results in a specific absorption rate limit being exceeded, then the modulation and coding scheme is changed to one having a greater data coding rate. The power level and the number transmission slots then are set so that the data transmission does not exceed the specific absorption rate limit. The data is then transmitted by the portable communication device.

Abstract: A display apparatus and a method of searching for a channel in the display apparatus includes a plurality of tuners and a plurality of antenna ports respectively connected to the plurality of tuners. The method includes receiving a channel search command; if the channel search command is input, searching for one of the plurality of antenna ports that is connected to a satellite antenna to receive a broadcasting signal, if one of the plurality of antenna ports is connected to the satellite antenna to receive the broadcasting signal, setting one of the plurality of tuners connected to the one antenna port, to a main tuner, and performing a channel search through the tuner set to the main tuner. Therefore, although an antenna port connected to one of the plurality of tuners initially set to a sub tuner, the display apparatus performs a channel search through the corresponding tuner.

  • Patent number: 8976781
Abstract: A system including a component of a transceiver, a comparator, a counter, and a calibration circuit. The component receives an input signal comprising packets and based on the input signal, generates output signals to transmit the packets. The comparator compares the output signals to generate a comparison signal. The counter counts cycles of a clock signal to provide a count value. The control device, based on the comparison signal, transitions the counter between incrementing the count value and decrementing the count value. The calibration circuit operates in first and second calibration modes; during the first calibration mode, calibrates the component until the counter transitions a predetermined number of times between incrementing the count value and decrementing the count value; and during the second calibration mode, calibrates the component until (i) the counter transitions between incrementing and decrementing the count value, or (ii) counts a predetermined number of cycles.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are directed to wireless power transfer including generating an electromagnetic field at a resonant frequency of a transmit antenna to create a coupling-mode region within a near-field of the transmit antenna. A receive antenna placed within the coupling-mode region resonates at or near the resonant frequency. The receive antenna extracts energy from a coupling between the two antennas. Signaling from the receive antenna to the transmit antenna is performed by generating a first power consumption state for the receive antenna to signal a first receive signal state and generating a second power consumption state for the receive antenna to signal a second receive signal state. Signaling from the transmit antenna to the receive antenna is performed by enabling the resonant frequency on the transmit antenna to signal a first transmit signal state and disabling the resonant frequency on the transmit antenna to signal a second transmit signal state.

Abstract: An interactive card or the like employs a piezoelectric charge generator (piezo-strip) for temporarily driving an indicator. The piezo-strip may be displaced (bent) in order to generate charge to drive the indicator. Printed electronic processes are utilized to produce the indicator and/or the piezoelectric charge generator. An indicator is formed on a substrate by way of a printed electronics process. A displaceable region of piezoelectric material associated with the said substrate is formed by way of a printed electronics process. Electrical interconnections are formed on said substrate by way of a printed electronics process. The electrical interconnections connecting said indicator and said first region of piezoelectric material such that displacement of said first region of piezoelectric material generates a voltage therein that is provided to said indicator in order to actuate said indicator and thereby indicate the displacement of said first region of piezoelectric material.
