  • Patent number: 9247526
Abstract: This disclosure describes systems, methods, and devices for paging message enhancement, for example, by allowing packets to accumulate in an access point before sending them to a station. In some implementations, a station may not have an immediate use for a packet waiting in an access point's buffer. The station may save energy and reduce medium occupancy by allowing packets to accumulate at the access point and then receiving the accumulated packets in accordance with certain criteria. Such criteria for accumulation may be based on a Quality of Service (QoS) category, the station address, or the station type. The station may set accumulation parameters, such as a maximum occupied buffer size or a maximum time for which a station's packets are delayed for accumulation.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for conserving resources of a wireless communication device (WCD). A WCD may be configured to operate in one of two modes while in communication with the RAN. In a high-power mode, the WCD operates with a filtering component having a first filtering bandwidth. The first a filtering bandwidth generally enables the WCD to provide high quality audio signals based on a first audio bandwidth of an audio codec. In a low-power mode, the WCD operates with the filtering component having a second filtering bandwidth. The second filtering bandwidth enables the WCD to provide a lower quality audio signal based on a second audio bandwidth having a narrower audio bandwidth than the first audio bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 9237534
Abstract: The described method and system provide for synchronizing a mobile application on a mobile device with a DRx (discontinuous receive) schedule of a vehicle. When the vehicle ignition is turned off, a telecommunications unit on the vehicle sends a synchronization message to the mobile device, which allows the mobile application to synchronize with the DRx schedule of the vehicle. The DRx schedule includes a standby mode, a cyclic mode, and a powered down mode for the vehicle, and user requests inputted into the mobile application will be processed according to the mobile application's determination of vehicle availability during those modes. The mobile application is thus able to inform the user of the vehicle status at any point during the vehicle's DRx schedule without requiring any further information from the vehicle after the synchronization message.

  • Patent number: 9237524
Abstract: A technique provides apparatuses, methods, and computer readable media for sending sleep information from an end device to a central unit of a network, in which the wake-up time of the end device is aligned to the scanning time for the central unit. The technique addresses at least two considerations: the clock accuracy of the end device is accounted for, and the reason that the end device requests sleep mode operation is provided. To address the above considerations, the end device may send its clock tolerance information and/or request for sleep mode (RSM) command to the central unit once the end device is connected via the network. The central unit may then adjust the scanning time based on the clock tolerance information. If the central unit receives a response from the end device during the adjusted scanning time, the central unit deems that the end device is still connected.

Abstract: In a system that performs communication between master and slave, the device better suited as the master device is not always the master device, since the device that initially constructs the network becomes the master device. A device that enters the network later transmits a restart request on detecting the master device, and if a restart permission is received, the device transfers to a restart state and transmits a master inquiry before the device that was the master device up until that point. Thus, a device that newly enters a network is able to operate as the master device even if a master device already exists in the network.

Outgoing data may also be stored in a buffer, allowing the interface to be in a power save mode with information transmitted from the buffer.

  • Patent number: 9119153
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for power optimization in e.g., a wireless mobile device. In one embodiment, the optimization is effected via intelligent idle mode current drain management. In an exemplary LTE cellular network context, the user equipment (UE) only powers on its transceiver for a subset of Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycles based on e.g., the quality of the radio environment, power considerations, location, etc. For example, if a UE has not moved, and its radio reception quality is good, the UE is likely to successfully receive a paging notification (i.e., without multiple attempts). Consequently, the UE configures itself to receive only a single paging indication.
