Patent number: 7756481Abstract: A rake receiver for processing a multi-path input signal received from a communications channel, wherein each multi-path component of the multi-path input signal comprises one or more symbols, comprises a plurality of fingers and a demodulator. Each of the plurality of fingers is adapted to receive the multi-path input signal and provide a sequence of input samples corresponding to a multi-path component of the multi-path input signal. The demodulator is adapted (i) during a single clock period, to receive and process one or more input samples corresponding to only one of the fingers, (ii) for each of the fingers, to accumulate multiple processed input samples to form a symbol, and (iii) to provide the formed symbols for all fingers.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2009Date of Patent: July 13, 2010Assignee: Agere Systems Inc.Inventor: Gongyu Zhou

Publication number: 20100144282Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing channel diversity to wireless terminals (WTs) in a manner that reduces the latency between the time a WT encounters satisfactory channel conditions are described. A plurality of communications channels with different physical characteristics are maintained in a cell by a base station (BS). Each WT monitors multiple channels and maintains multiple channel estimates at the same time so that rapid switching between channels is possible. Channel quality information is conveyed from each WT to the BS. The WT or BS selects a channel based on the measured channel quality. By supporting multiple channels and by introducing periodic variations into the channels in various embodiments, the time before a WT encounters a channel with good or acceptable channel conditions is minimized even if the WT does not change location. Multiple antennas are used at the BS to support numerous channels simultaneously, e.g., by controlling antenna patterns.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Rajiv Laroia, Junyi Li, Sundeep Rangan, Murari Srinivasan

Patent number: 7706752Abstract: A wireless communication terminal and a method for controlling power and using a channel by adjusting a channel bandwidth of the wireless communication terminal. The wireless communication terminal generates a plurality of channels by dividing at least part of a frequency band for ultra-wideband communications to a plurality of frequency bands, receives a chaotic signal having a plurality of frequency components in the channels, and adjusts a frequency bandwidth which forms the channel when a certain condition is satisfied. Accordingly, since the chaotic carrier is transmitted and received in the narrow frequency band by adjusting the frequency bandwidth, the power consumption can be reduced drastically and the high-quality communications are feasible between the portable terminal and the wireless headset in the optimized channel environment. Furthermore, a greater number of portable terminals and wireless headsets can execute the radio communications in a certain wireless communication range.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2006Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Sang-min Han, Young-hwan Kim

Patent number: 7706826Abstract: A satellite radiotelephone system includes a space-based component that is configured to communicate with multiple radiotelephones over multiple frequency bands and/or multiple air interfaces. An ancillary terrestrial network is configured to communicate terrestrially with the multiple radiotelephones over substantially the multiple frequency bands and/or substantially the multiple air interfaces. An aggregate radiated power controller is configured to limit an aggregate radiated power by the multiple radiotelephones to a maximum aggregate radiated power.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2005Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: ATC Technologies, LLCInventor: Peter D. Patent number: 7697896Abstract: A game apparatus according to a preferred embodiment includes a first wireless communication module and a second wireless communication module. The first wireless communication module performs communication utilizing Bluetooth protocols, whereas the second wireless communication module performs communication utilizing IEEE802.11 protocols. The first radio communication module and the second radio module have a common reference communication cycle, and each communicates in communication cycles of an integral multiple of a reference communication cycle. A control unit sets offset time between from the start time of a communication by the first wireless communication module until the start time of a communication by the second wireless communication module. In so doing, the control unit monitors the communication load of the first wireless communication module and sets the offset time based on a monitored result.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2006Date of Patent: April 13, 2010Assignee: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: Itaru Maekawa, Jun Nishihara

Patent number: 7697959Abstract: In a communication device compatible with either a SISO or MIMO access point, a set of antennas is configured as either sector-directional or omni-directional, depending upon whether the communication channel is characterized by the communication device as either strongly line of sight, or strongly scattering, respectively. In some embodiments, for the case in which a MIMO access point is utilized, the singular values of an estimated channel matrix are generated, and based upon the singular values, the characteristics of the communication channel is estimated. Other embodiments are described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2006Date of Patent: April 13, 2010Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Guoqing Li, Minyoung Park, Liuyang Lily Yang
