Abstract: Antenna switches (1,10) in dual-band or multi-band mobile phones are according to a basic idea provided with a serial semiconductor switches (11,21,12,22) per transmitting branch (2,3) and with a further semiconductor switch (13,23) coupled in parallel to a receiving branch (4,5,6), to obtain isolation between branches (2-6) in a simple way. Said semiconductor switches are PIN diodes or MEMS switches or pHEMT switches. Another semiconductor switch (14) coupled in parallel to the receiving branches (4-6) allows together with said further semiconductor (13) the introduction of elements (15,16) without a transmission line. Alternatively, the antenna switch (1,10) may comprise a transmission line (24,25), in which case the receiving branches (4,5,6) can be switched via transistor switches (26,27,28). This all improves isolation, reduces costs, complexity, size and high Radio-Frequency (RF) losses.

Abstract: Techniques to implement MBMS services in a wireless communication system. In one aspect, a method is provided for processing data for transmission to a plurality of terminals. Frames of information bits (which may have variable rates) are provided to a buffer implementing a matrix. The matrix is padded with padding bits based on a particular padding scheme to support variable frame rates. The frames are then coded based on a particular block code to provide parity bits. Abstract: Base stations having potentially interfering terminal stations that are geographically located on the same or similar diagonal or Line of Sight (relative to the base station) operate on a first set of time frames (e.g., “even” time frames). Similarly, base stations having potentially interfering terminal stations that are not geographically located on the same or similar diagonals operate on a second set of time frames (e.g., “odd” time frames). By alternating in their use of the even and odd frames, the potential for co-channel interference between terminal stations is minimized. Systems and methods are disclosed which reduce co-channel and adjacent channel interference between terminal stations of different cells as well as adjacent channel interference between terminal stations of adjacent cells. The methods and systems so described can be used during the deployment or expansion of a communication system in a region.

  • Patent number: 7158759
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dynamic frequency selection in a wireless communication system or network includes processing that begins when an access point determines interference on a wireless channel that is being used by the access point. When the interference exceeds an interference threshold, the access point provides a request packet to affiliated stations being serviced by the access point for channel spectrum information. The processing continues as the affiliated stations generate the channel spectrum information regarding each of the wireless channels in the wireless communication network. The processing proceeds then as the affiliated stations provide the channel spectrum information to the access point via the current wireless channel. The access point interprets the channel spectrum information to determine a desired wireless channel of the plurality of wireless channels within the wireless communication network.

  • Patent number: 7088955
Abstract: Techniques to acquire and track pilots in a CDMA system. In an aspect, frequency acquisition of a number of signal instances (i.e., multipaths) in a received signal may be achieved concurrently based on a frequency control loop (RAFC) maintained for each finger processor of a rake receiver. Upon successful acquisition, frequency tracking of acquired multipaths may be achieved based on a combination of a frequency control loop (VAFC) maintained for an oscillator used for downconverting the received signal and the RAFCs for the finger processors. In a tracking mode, the VAFC tracks the average frequency of the acquired multipaths by adjusting the frequency of the oscillator. The RAFC of each finger processor tracks the residual frequency error (e.g., due to Doppler frequency shift) of the individual acquired multipath by adjusting the frequency of a complex sinusoidal signal used in a rotator within the finger processor.

Abstract: A satellite radiotelephone frequency can be reused terrestrially by an ancillary terrestrial network even within the same satellite cell, using interference cancellation techniques. Moreover, the ancillary terrestrial network can use a modified range of satellite band forward link frequencies for transmission, to reduce interference with out-of-band receivers. A modified range of satellite band forward link frequencies that is used by the ancillary terrestrial network can include only a subset of the standard satellite band forward link frequencies to provide a guard band, can include power levels that monotonically decrease as a function of increasing frequency and/or can include two or more contiguous slots per frame that are left unoccupied and/or are transmitted at reduced maximum power. Time division duplex operation of the ancillary terrestrial network may also be provided over at least a portion of satellite band return frequencies.

Abstract: A radio communication method or system for transmitting part of the control signal addressed to a terminal station from a base station by means of a narrow-band carrier which is narrower than the band of multi-carrier signal and is arranged in the vicinity of the frequency band used for information transmission, in the case where a plurality of frequency bands for information transmission exist continuously. It may be modified such that part of the control signal addressed to the terminal station, which is transmitted from the base station, is transmitted by means of one or more subcarriers in the band of the multi-carrier signal. A radio communication method for exchanging information between a base station and a terminal station in the frame period by means of multi-carrier signals due to OFDM modulation scheme, in which the transmission of part of the control signal addressed from the base station to the terminal station is accomplished by means of the specific position in the frame period.
