Frequency Switching Patents (Class 455/63.3)
  • Patent number: 7693489
Abstract: A wireless communication system includes: an access point used the first channel or second channel to transmit the data, wherein the center frequency of the first channel is an initial frequency and the center frequency of the second channel is an target frequency; and a client terminal. When the client terminal receives the data from the first channel, the access point and the client terminal are operated by a first working frequency and second working frequency respectively. Initially, both working frequencies are located at the initial frequency. When the first channel is desired to switch to the second channel, the first working frequency is added an offset frequency. The second working frequency is adjusted and followed so as to keep up with first working frequency. By adding the offset frequency to the working frequency repeatedly, the first and second working frequencies are shifted until both of them arrive at the target frequency.

  • Patent number: 7680644
Abstract: A computerized model provides a display of a physical environment in which a communications network is or will be installed. The communications network is comprised of several components, each of which are selected by the design engineer and which are represented in the display. Errors in the selection of certain selected components for the communications network are identified by their attributes or frequency characteristics as well as by their interconnection compatibility for a particular design. The effects of changes in frequency on component performance are modeled and the results are displayed to the design engineer. A bill of materials is automatically checked for faults and generated for the design system and provided to the design engineer. For ease of design, the design engineer can cluster several different preferred components into component kits, and then select these component kits for use in the design or deployment process.

  • Patent number: 7680459
Abstract: An RF transmission system comprises an RF transmitter receiving a base band media signal and generating a broadcast signal on a broadcast frequency. The broadcast frequency may be one of a plurality of transmission frequencies within a frequency band. A radio data control module periodically performs an interference detection measurement to determine whether an interfering signal from a remote transmitter exists at the broadcast frequency. An open frequency is selected if an interfering signal from a remote transmitter exists at the broadcast frequency. The open frequency may be one of the plurality of transmission frequencies wherein RF interference is within predetermined acceptance criteria. The RF transmission system transmits an identification of the open frequency on the broadcast frequency and, following such transmission, switches the broadcast frequency to such open frequency.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for dynamic frequency selection in a wireless communication system or network includes processing that begins when an access point determines interference on a wireless channel that is being used by the access point. When the interference exceeds an interference threshold, the access point provides a request packet to affiliated stations being serviced by the access point for channel spectrum information. The processing continues as the affiliated stations generate the channel spectrum information regarding each of the wireless channels in the wireless communication network. The processing proceeds then as the affiliated stations provide the channel spectrum information to the access point via the current wireless channel. The access point interprets the channel spectrum information to determine a desired wireless channel of the plurality of wireless channels within the wireless communication network.

Abstract: A set of piconets and corresponding methods and computer programs may reduce contention time between piconets. In one embodiment, a seven-length code architecture may be used with group(s) of bands so that contention time cannot exceed 1/7 of the time. Up to seven different bands can be used within each group. When less than seven bands are used (e.g., three or six), at least one of the bands may be assigned to more than one dwell time during a time span. Alternatively, each dwell time within the time span may be assigned to a different band. The state may be changed as needed or desired. Substitution of extra bands may also be used. Using either scheme (repeated bands or changing states), a prime-number architecture can be used with a non-prime number of different bands. Simultaneous communications using at least two bands within a piconet may be used.

Abstract: A receive system providing enhanced directivity in the form of a narrowed receive beam and a relatively small antenna with performance comparable to a much larger antenna at similar frequencies. Received signals are converted to digital values and stored in a manner which enables subsequent processing directed to improving the resolution of the received signals and to reduce the associated noise corresponding to the received data samples. The Signal-to-Noise ratio of the received data signals is improved as a result of processing techniques made possible by the configuration of the antenna and the digitally stored nature of the received data.

Abstract: A system and method for preventing a wireless controller system and WiFi radio system within a console from interfering with each other. The WiFi system is prevented from activating its transmitter during the controller receive times by detecting a signal sent to the WiFi module indicating where the controller receive times occur. Based upon the state of the signal, the WiFi transmission algorithm can determine the appropriate times to turn on and off the WiFi transmitter in concert with the defined 802.11 media access protocol. Furthermore, the WiFi module provides its operating channel information to the controller radio system to avoid using the WiFi channel for any communications.

Abstract: The present invention allows a single access point (“AP”; 100) to support a plurality of devices (102, 104) operating on different frequency bands. During a first period of time, the AP initiates a contention free period at a first frequency. The AP switches from the first frequency to a second frequency, and communicates with devices operating at the second frequency. Periodically during the first period of time, the AP temporarily ceases communication with devices operating at the second frequency to initiate a contention free period at the second frequency, switch from the second frequency to the first frequency, initiate another contention free period at the first frequency, and switch from the first frequency back to the second frequency.
