The method comprises monitoring, at each station, the transmission path quality between that station and each other station with which that station can communicate. Data corresponding to the monitored path quality is recorded at each station, thereby permitting a transmission power value based on the relevant path quality data to be selected when transmitting data to another station. Thus, the probability of transmitting data to any selected station at an optimum power level is increased. Each station transmits path quality data in its own transmissions as well as local noise/interference data, so that other stations can obtain path quality data for a particular station even if they are out of range of that particular station. Abstract: A circuit configuration has a radio-frequency section with a receiving mixing stage, and has a signal processing circuit with an A/D converter, a digital filter and a frequency estimator. The frequency estimator continuously determines a first frequency correction control signal, which is representative of a frequency offset between the frequency of an IF received signal and a frequency which is characteristic of a pass band of the filter. The first frequency correction control signal is used for readjustment of the mixing frequency.

Abstract: A method and an arrangement are provided for timing a change of diversity weights in a radio connection between a base station and a terminal. A response timing mode is selected from a number of predefined response timing modes. The terminal is informed about the selected response timing mode. An initiation is received from the terminal and it is responded to the initiation by changing certain diversity weights so that the exact moment of time for effecting the change is determined by the selected response timing mode.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the quality of a reverse link and the load of a base station (BTS) in a CDMA mobile telecommunication system. The apparatus and method periodically detect the power of a receiving signal from a mobile station to a BTS, constructs a practical statistical distribution curve for a power ratio of signal to interference, compares the practical distribution curve with the theoretical distribution curve pre-constructed based upon the parameter condition of a BTS, and determines the quality of a reverse link based upon the difference between the distribution curves.

Abstract: A wireless interface device services communications between a wirelessly enabled host and at least one user input device. The wireless interface device includes a wireless interface unit, a processing unit, an input/output unit, and a power management unit. The wireless interface unit wirelessly interfaces with the wirelessly enabled host using a communication interface protocol. Abstract: A system and method for variable rate closed loop power control in a wireless communications system, such as a CDMA spectrum system. A base station receives the reverse link transmission from a wireless terminal unit (WTU) and determines the signal quality of the reverse link, measures the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) or other signal quality indicators of the received signal to determine any power adjustments required for the uplink transmission power. The base station also processes the uplink transmission signal to determine whether the rate of transmitting power control data to the WTU should be changed from the current rate. If so, the base station either (1) sends a power control rate change command to the WTU via the downlink, and sends subsequent power control commands at the newly determined rate, or (2) sends subsequent power control commands at the newly determined rate without sending a power control rate change command.

Abstract: Selective reverse mobile frame biasing is provided for improved network control between a mobile unit (102) and a base station (132) responsive to power control bits from the base station. Signaling messages (124) received at the base station (132) are monitored to identify signaling messages requiring the mobile unit to send a response containing a critical signaling message. The base station (132) informs the mobile unit (102) to send the response containing the critical signaling message with an increased power bias for the duration of the message. Transmission power of the mobile unit (102) is allowed to decay after the critical signaling message is sent.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for reducing scanning times by eliminating from consideration channels where the measured power is substantially comprised of adjacent channel power. The method and apparatus include measuring the received channel power (302) from neighboring cells, and attempting to acquire or otherwise identifying signals from the channels of the neighboring cells (306) in descending order of a sorted list of received channel power. When a signal from the channel of a neighboring cell is successfully acquired or otherwise identified, an amount of adjacent channel power is determined (310), based upon an expected power profile of the acquired or otherwise identified signal. The determined adjacent channel power is then compared against the power measured for the corresponding channel (312). Where the measured power is substantially comprised of adjacent channel power, the channel is removed from the list of channels to acquire (316).

  • Patent number: 6687510
Abstract: A method and apparatus that determines how much power to allocate to each of a plurality of reverse link power control (RLPC) Channels to be transmitted from a base station, based upon data rate control (DRC) messages transmitted to the base station. Historical information is used to determine the quality of the Forward Link over which the RLPC is to be transmitted. If the history of the DRCs received indicates that the remote station to which the RLPC Channel is to be directed has not transmitted a DRC recently, then the base station allocates power to the RLPC Channels based upon information provided to the base station in DRCs that were received by the base station, but that were directed to other base stations. Accordingly, the base station can allocate power among the RLPC Channels without having received explicit information as to the quality of the Forward Link between the base station and every remote station intended to receive the information on the RLPC Channels.

Abstract: Methods and systems for load sharing signaling messages among signaling links in a network utilizing an international signaling protocol are disclosed. A routing node receives a signaling message formatted according to an international signaling protocol. The routing node generates a signaling link selection parameter for the signaling message. The routing node selects an outbound signaling link based on the generated signaling link selection parameter. The number of bits in the generated SLS value is user-configurable, thus allowing load sharing among arbitrary numbers of signaling links.

Abstract: Wirelessly linking a portable audio device to an external audio system permits the external audio system to generate audible signals that enhance local playback of audio by the portable device. For example, the portable device wirelessly transmits lower frequency components of an audio signal to a subwoofer system for reproduction of bass frequencies extending below the playback capability of the portable device. In this manner, the external audio system provides bass enhancement for the portable audio device. Wireless transmissions between the portable audio device and the external audio system may be, but are not limited to, optical or radio frequency (RF) transmissions. Where RF signaling is used, the wireless link may be based on wireless network links, such as those supported by Bluetooth and 802.11b standards, or based on, for example, dedicated RF interfaces.
