Patent number: 8107894Abstract: A modular solid-state MMW power source based on a topology of the lens array amplifier provides both the flexibility to scale output power and effective thermal management. The modular power source includes a single submodule that uses one or more power dividers and one or more solid-state amplification stages to divide and amplify an RF input signal into R amplified RF signals. The submodule is mounted (suitably in the X-Y plane) on the surface of a heat sink, suitably coupled to a cold backplane, to remove heat. R 1:N low loss power dividers route the amplified RF signals to R*N radiating elements. Each of the 1:N power dividers suitably reside in the X-Z plane and are stacked in the Y direction to provide a planar output of the R*N radiating elements in the Y-Z plane. Placement of the amplifier chips on the single submodule decouples the number of amplifier chips, hence output power, from the number of radiating elements.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2009Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Reid F. The method includes processing, at the HIF, a first invite message received from the calling home RFSS, wherein the first invite message includes a first request uniform resource identifier (URI) that designates an alias system unit identification (SU-ID). In response to the first invite message, transmitting, from the HIF to the called home RFSS, a second invite message, including a second request URI that designates a real SU-ID, wherein the HIF acts as the calling home RFSS. The unit-to-unit call is thus established between the calling unit and the called unit through the calling home RFSS, the HIF, and the called home RFSS.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2010Publication date: October 13, 2011Applicant: MOTOROLA, INC.Inventors: Trent J. Publication number: 20110250922Abstract: A hosted inter-radio frequency subsystem interface (HIF) maintains a list of affiliated radio frequency subsystems (RFSSs), the list identifies at least one serving RFSS. An affiliation request is transmitted from the HIF to the home RFSS, which is a home RFSS of the group. The HIF receives from the serving RFSS a request to initiate an inter-RFSS group call to the group using HIF addressing. The HIF transmits a request to the home RFSS to initiate the inter-RFSS group call using serving RFSS addressing. A data packet from the home RFSS or the serving RFSS is received at the HIF. Upon receipt, the HIF transmits a copy of the data packet to the serving RFSS if the data packet was received from the home RFSS; otherwise, the HIF transmits a copy of the data packet to the home RFSS if the data packet was received from the serving RFSS.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2010Publication date: October 13, 2011Applicant: MOTOROLA, INC.Inventors: Trent J. Patent number: 8036608Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing dynamic Push To over Cellular, PoC, service options in a wireless communication network. Service options and terminal capabilities for PoC Clients (11, 15) are stored in the network, preferably in a PoC Server (13). A PoC Client (11) uses a SIP PUBLISH message (17) to set the actual status of the answering mode and any barring service, and, if automatic answering mode is set, also stores a list of codecs that the PoC Client (11) supports. When the PcC Client is called, the calling PoC Client (15) informs the Server (13) of supported codecs, and the Server selects a codec supported by both Clients, thus optimizing the connection.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2004Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventor: Jan Holm

Patent number: 8036648Abstract: A system and method for operating a user functionality in a mobile communications device is disclosed. In an embodiment of the system, a communications infrastructure provides interoperability between a first communications network utilizing a first technology and a second communications network utilizing a second technology. The infrastructure provides an indicator to a mobile communications device in communication with the first communications network to either activate the user functionality or deactivate the user functionality. In accordance with an embodiment of a method of the present invention, the method includes providing the indicator to the mobile communications device in communication with the first communications network utilizing the first technology by the communications infrastructure. The user functionality is activated if the indicator is provided in a first state and the user functionality deactivated if the indicator is provided in a second state.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2007Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: Nextel Communications, Inc.Inventors: Steven W. Publication number: 20110243201Abstract: A broadband transceiver includes at least one layer structure that is substantially impermeable to RF radiation. The layer structure includes a first face surface substantially opposite a second face surface. A receive antenna is located proximate the first face surface and configured to receive RF transmissions. A transmit antenna is located proximate the second surface and configured to transmit RF transmissions. At least one of the receive and transmit antennas generates a generally toroidal radiation pattern that is stronger in a direction substantially parallel to the respective layer structure face surface compared to a direction substantially perpendicular to the face surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2010Publication date: October 6, 2011Inventors: Fred William Phillips, Thomas Kummetz, Narian Izzat

Patent number: 8032089Abstract: A radio transceiver device includes circuitry for radiating electromagnetic signals at a very high radio frequency both through space, as well as through wave guides that are formed within a substrate material. In one embodiment, the substrate comprises a dielectric substrate formed within a board, for example, a printed circuit board. In another embodiment of the invention, the wave guide is formed within a die of an integrated circuit radio transceiver. A plurality of transceivers with different functionality is defined. Substrate transceivers are operable to transmit through the wave guides, while local transceivers are operable to produce very short range wireless transmissions through space. A third and final transceiver is a typical wireless transceiver for communication with remote (non-local to the device) transceivers.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2006Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Ahmadreza (Reza) Rofougaran

Patent number: 8023983Abstract: In one illustrative example, methods and apparatus for use in buffering PTT voice communications are described. A mobile station sends a PTT voice communication request in a wireless communication network. Prior to receiving a floor grant in response to the PTT voice communication request, the mobile station receives voice input signals and buffers digital voice data corresponding to the voice input signals, where the digital voice data is produced by encoding and compressing the voice input signals. The mobile station receives the floor grant in response to the PTT voice communication request. Upon receipt of the floor grant, the mobile station retrieves the buffered digital voice data and continues to buffer digital voice data corresponding to the voice input signals, until all of the buffered digital voice data has been sent.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2010Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: Xin Jin, Wen Zhao
