To minimize misalignment, a process is disclosed to machine the tensioner pulley bearing seats on the tensioner arms after assembly to the BISG. The BISG pulley is rotated with three probes recording the axial position change of the BISG pulley over a complete revolution. These data are used to establish a best-fit plane and the tensioner pulley bearing seats are machined to match the best-fit plane so that during operation belt twisting and shifting are minimized.

    Abstract: Deaeration of the high pressure oil chamber of a hydraulic tensioner takes place though a helical orifice formed by opposed flanks of the threads of a threaded hole in the tensioner housing and the threads of a screw inserted into the hole. The opposed flanks are maintained in spaced relationship by a force exerted by a spring washer disposed between the head of the screw and a surface of the tensioner housing surrounding the opening of the threaded hole. The flank of the thread of the hole that forms part of the boundary of the helical orifice can have a concave curvature in order to increase the aperture of the air flow path. A groove in the surface surrounding the opening of the threaded hole prevents the washer from sealing off the flow of air. This groove is disposed with its exit end at a level above its entry end.

    Abstract: A variable flow hydraulic tensioner (10) for a chain or belt can include a fixed member (12) having a first port (12a), and a movable member (14) in engaged with the fixed member (12). The movable member (14) can include a second port (14a) initially aligned with respect to the first port (12a) to allow fluid flow therethrough. A first spring (16) can bias the movable member (14) with respect to the fixed member (12) to align the first and second ports (12a, 14a) with respect to one another to allow fluid flow therethrough. A second spring (18) can have less spring force than the first spring (16) to bias the movable member (14) in an opposite direction with respect to the fixed member (12), such that as the chain or belt wears, a differential force between the first and second springs (16, 18) diminishes until the movable member (14) moves relative to the fixed member (12) sufficiently to offset the first and second ports (12a, 14a) with respect to one another to prevent fluid flow therethrough.

An adjustable chain guide such as a chain tensioner arm assembly includes a tensioner arm with a pivot bore defined about a pivot axis. The tensioner arm further includes at least one resilient fastener retaining tab located adjacent the pivot bore. The shoulder bolt extends through the pivot bore and is engaged by the at least one resilient fastener retaining tab, and the at least one fastener retaining tab inhibits separation of the fastener from the tensioner arm. The fastener preferably includes an annular groove or other recess to be engaged by the one or more fastener retaining tabs in order to permit the tensioner arm to rotate relative to the fastener.

For each CVT 4, one of its cones is mounted on its shaft using an adjuster that can lock or release the rotational position of its cone relative to the shaft it is mounted.     Abstract: A cam actuated hydraulic brake system and an in plane tensioner pulley belt drive system may be used on autonomous vehicles, such as dynamic motion elements for the evaluation of various crash avoidance technologies. The brake system utilizes a cam driven by a servo to push the piston push rod of a hydraulic master brake cylinder, thus distributing pressurized brake fluid throughout the brake system. The pulley drive system uses an articulating arm for the driven pulley, and that arm may also have connected to it one or two tension pulleys, each of which is in contact with the belt. Because the drive pulley and the tensioner pulleys pivot about the same pivot axis, the needed belt length remains nearly constant across the entire range of the articulating arm.
