  • Publication number: 20090318253
Abstract: An apparatus including a belt support system having a first belt support roller and a system for automatically moving the first belt support roller. The belt support system partially wraps a continuous belt on a belt drive roller. The belt support system includes the first belt support roller at an upstream side of the belt drive roller and a second belt support roller at a downstream side. The system for moving the first belt support roller moves the first roller from a first location relative to the belt drive roller to a second different location, based upon a predetermined load of the belt on the first belt support roller to thereby reduce an amount of wrap of the belt on the belt drive roller and reduce a length of the belt located proximate to the belt drive roller between the first and second belt support rollers.

A tensioner spring mounts between the machine frame and the pivot arm, such that is causes rotation of the pivot arm about the pivot point in the opposite direction that the belt/pulley system causes rotation about the pivot point. A stop is used to keep the pivot arm in the position of tensioner spring/belt/pulley system equilibrium. This stop is mounted to the machine frame after the pivot arm equilibrium is reached. A retainer spring mounts between the machine frame and the pivot arm such that when in tension it causes a rotational force about the pivot point in the same direction that the tensioner spring causes a rotational force about the pivot point.

Abstract: A pivoting chain guide and tensioner assembly for use with an endless chain loop comprising: at least one bracket plate, a tensioner attached to the at least one bracket plate, and a guide attached to the bracket plates. The bracket plate surrounds the chain at least partially between a driving and a driven sprocket and at least one of the plates has a hole for a pivot at a center axis. The tensioner comprises a tensioner arm with a chain sliding face for contacting the outside of the chain and a biasing means. The guide has a chain sliding face that contacts the outside of the chain. When a high local load is applied to the chain, the load is received by the end of the guide, forcing the guide to move away from the chain, such that the bracket plate pivots, moving the tensioner relative to the chain.

Abstract: An idler or tensioning assembly for an electronically controlled sanding/polishing machine is provided, the sanding/polishing machine utilizing a plurality of exchangeable polishing wheel assemblies of which the idler assembly is one. Each polishing wheel assembly interfaces with the sanding/polishing machine through a coolant manifold and a polishing wheel shaft receptor. The idler assembly is operative to provide releasable tension to a sanding/polishing belt that is situated around the idler and the associated sanding/polishing wheel. The idler assembly has a pivoting idler that is actuated by a hydraulic cylinder. The hydraulic cylinder utilizes coolant tapped from the coolant manifold of the idler assembly for actuation. Coolant is provided to the hydraulic cylinder in response to a valve signal. The idler assembly thus has a tensioned mode and an untensioned mode.

  • Patent number: 7059984
Abstract: A device serves to regulate the tension of a running belt. The belt is deflected on rollers of which one is designed as a force measuring roller and is connected to a displacement sensing device. This roller is provided with at least one force sensor that determines the force applied to the belt. In addition, this roller is position adjustably held by an actuating drive in order to be able to adjust the tension of the belt. The actuating drive is in an operative connection with a regulating device that is influenced by a correction device. This correction device determines the web tension from the force applied to the belt measured by the force sensor and from the position of the force measuring roller, that changes with the position of the tension regulating roller, and transmits this output as an actual value to the regulating device.
