Closure Surface Moved To Inoperative Position Flush-with-ground Patents (Class 49/131)
  • Patent number: 4148156
Abstract: A gate spanning a roadway presents an effective barrier to cattle and other livestock but tilts open in either direction of the roadway from closed, upright position to a horizontal position supported on the roadway surface under the force exerted by a motor vehicle nudged against the gate and driven over the gate in its horizontal position.Counterweights connected to the gate by tension lines exert a restoring force urging the gate into upright position. The counterweights operate at an elevation well out of the way of people and vehicles and are provided with backup safety tether lines to prevent any harm in the unlikely event of failure of the tension lines.

  • Patent number: 4134230
Abstract: A starting gate for motorcycle racing of the moto-cross type including a plurality of individual U-shaped members each of which can be raised to a cocked position ahead of the front wheel of a racing motorcycle, a camming device for maintaining the member in cocked position and permitting the release of the member to allow it to drop by gravity towards and out of the way of the motorcycle, and an actuator frame having an interconnection for positioning the camming device to cock the member and means for cocking and releasing the camming device, the construction permitting the addition of a number of U-shaped members extending in either direction from the actuator frame to accommodate the starting of a variable number of racing motorcycles.

  • Patent number: 4101235
Abstract: An improved parking lot traffic control means comprising an elongate series of tire engaging spikes extending transverse an entering and exit lane; said spikes are carried by an elongate shaft rotatably supported below the surface of the lane to project upwardly therefrom and from the surface of the lane when the shaft is in a normal rotative position; drive means including a reversible electric motor is provided to rotate the shaft to an actuated rotative position where said spikes project horizontally and below the surface of the lane; control means is provided to operate the drive means and includes manually operable actuating switch means at one end of the lane to cause the motor to rotate the shaft from its normal to its actuated position and automobile operated actuating switch means at the other end of the lane to cause the motor to rotate the shaft from its actuated to its normal position.

  • Patent number: 4097170
Abstract: A visible traffic controller permitting free flow of desired traffic in one direction while preventing reverse flow of undesired traffic in the opposite direction, and comprised of a low profile support or frame superimposed over an unaltered pavement surface and characterized by replaceable barrier modules each having several barrier blades for tire engagement and yieldingly biased for depression by a balancing spring means positioning a trunnion support therefor.

  • Patent number: 4016679
Abstract: A plurality of teeth are individually rotatable on a shaft via integral hubs which are slidably mounted on and rotatable relative to the shaft. A bar is held parallel to the shaft by rigid connecting members between them, and respective biasing springs are connected to the bar and to respective fingers that are integral with the hubs. The shaft is rotatable in spaced brackets which are welded to the bottom of a slotted plate that is removably anchored in the top of a housing or frame that is adapted for embedment in a street surface or parking lot surface. The shaft is keyed to gear mechanism supported by the surface plate, the gearing being such as to permit the shaft to remain in a selected angular position. In one position of the shaft, all teeth protrude through slots to extend above the surface plate, and in another position all teeth are retained within the slots below the top surface of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4003161
Abstract: A collapsible or removable post which may be keylocked in its upright position and in its stowed position. The post may be used to hold a sign or to act as a temporary barrier in order to block a traffic lane, a driveway or the access to, or egress from, a parking spot. The device comprises a movable inner post telescopically inserted into a ground imbedded container. A locking lever inside the post, actuated by a keylock, secures it at various height positions above ground level.

  • Patent number: 3994491
Abstract: A starter gate comprises a plurality of cable-holding members pivotally mounted on base members. A latching mechanism latches the cable-holding members in a vertical position thereby maintaining cables in a suspended condition behind which vehicles, animals or the like are positioned preparatory to starting a race. A latch-releasing mechanism is actuated by a starter so that the cable-holding members and cables carried thereby move to a horizontal position adjacent the raceway thereby enabling the vehicles or animals to start the race without hindrance from the cables.
