  • Patent number: 5546703
Abstract: A pivotable safety gate having a pair of spaced apart parallel support frames which each have a distal end and a proximal end. The frames each have a support stanchion which is disposed adjacent the proximal end of the frame. The stanchions support a pivotable pair of gates. When one gate is down, the other gate is up. This gate assembly is utilizable at mezzanine floors where security and safety at edges of those floors are important. The gates prevent accidents and improper entry into areas which should be off limits to passage.

  • Patent number: 5528865
Abstract: A high impact resistant rotationally molded door and process for molding the door is disclosed in which a hinge member is integrally molded to the door along one edge only. This hinge member forms to the hollow door edge without door warpage during curing and shrinking of rotationally molded plastic door body. Door warpage is avoided by delaying full integral attachment of the hinge member to the door until curing of the injected foam interior which both bonds to the interior of the door and the hinge member. An improved seal and hinge seal is disclosed together with a placed window construction that can include both placement and shaping to meet the special order needs.

Abstract: The service window is constructed from a universal extruded framing member which can be cut to any desired window dimensions. A bell crank linkage with hip actuator or either of the pair of handles can be used to swing both doors open simultaneously about their respective vertical hinges. The bell crank linkage is mechanically efficient and space saving, and includes an automatic spring return mechanism. The handles are located over center with respect to the hinges. A U-shaped channel-formed member with wedge-shaped insert slips over the handles to prevent the window from being opened. The innermost edges of the handles confront the wedge insert to prevent the handles from following the arc trajectories followed during opening. These trajectories pass closest as they cross the plane between vertical hinges, thus, the wedge insert provides a solid, stable locking condition which is not readily jarred loose by vibration or prying.

Abstract: A door for closing a man-door opening in a mine stopping, the door having a pair of knife-edge hinges one at each of the two upper corners of the door for mounting the door to swing about a horizontal axis adjacent the top edge of the man-door opening between open and closed positions. Each hinge comprises a horizontally extending pivot pin and a vertically extending lug comprising a relatively thin metal plate member having a hole therein adapted to receive the pivot pin, whereby the area of engagement between the pivot pin and the lug is relatively small so that corrosion on the hinge at said area of engagement does not inhibit opening of the door.

  • Patent number: 4339901
Abstract: A new and improved system for improving the heat insulating characteristics of an existing wall structure includes apparatus for providing an additional panel in spaced relation with a first or existing panel of an existing wall structure having a surround for supporting the edges of the panel. A sash including the additional panel is mounted in spaced apart relation with the first panel and includes peripheral elongated frame elements, each having a body with a transverse cross-section that is proportioned to extend generally normal to a face of the sash panel and providing a greatest resistance to longitudinal bending forces applied to the element acting in a direction generally normal to the face. Means is provided for structurally interconnecting the sash panel with the elongated elements of the sash frame and the sash is pivotally mounted in the surround outwardly of the first glazing panel.

  • Patent number: 4268995
Abstract: A window frame, especially for ventilation by setting at various angles a plurality of slats mounted on said frame is disclosed, the improvement consisting in that the control lever which acts upon the rod which gangs the slats for setting them at an angle together has the end pointing towards the interior of the frame in the form of a scalloped sector, the points of which engage, in turn, a notch formed on a brace which is removably fastened to the window frame upright. The mechanism is reliable and versatile since it permits that the slats may be set at various angles in a stable manner. Means are also provided for preventing slat rattle by properly shaping the individual frames of the slat carriers. Thermoplastics materials are widely used in the construction of the frame and accessories.

  • Patent number: 4246666
Abstract: A flush toilet which includes a concave bowl with a bottom drain port and a closure such as a pan or plate to close the drain port. When a pan is used, it can hold a quantity of water to form a gas seal. When a plate is used, a mechanical seal is employed. The closure is pivotable away from the drain port to permit the bowl to drain. Flushing means is provided which includes a nozzle directing a stream of flushing water tangentially into the bowl, air purging means to purge air from said water stream before a substantial amount of it discharges into the bowl, and a unique combined ball valve and vacuum breaker in the water supply system. The toilet also can include linkage which toggle-locks the closure in its closed position, a break-way lid, and when a mechanical seal is used, a gas-sealing overflow.

  • Patent number: 4219970
Abstract: A metal frame includes top, bottom and side members, each member having an angular cross section. A sheet metal door of unitary construction is formed with a tubular portion at its upper end and a pair of spaced panels depending therefrom. A pair of plastic bushings are loosely received in the opposite ends of the tubular portion, the bushings having flanges that determine the small amount of clearance between the door and the sides of the frame. A rod extends through the bushings and through the flanges of the angled side members to determine the small amount of clearance between the frame and the top and bottom of the door. In this way, the door is free to swing inwardly and outwardly, thereby permitting a dog to readily enter or leave the doghouse.

  • Patent number: 4200956
Abstract: A system is provided for pivotally mounting opposed ends of a door panel between a pair of frame or shelf members. The system utilizes a pair of panel-engaging members which have U-shaped cross sections and which receive the door panel ends. Each of the panel-engaging members has a pair of spaced leg portions interconnected by a base portion. A pair of elongate cylindrical projections extends from the base portions to define a pivot axis of the door panel. A pair of projection-receiving formations is provided on the frame members for journaling the projections. At least one of the projection-receiving formations takes the form of an adjustably positioned bearing structure. The panel-engaging members are preferably formed as elongate extrusions of plastics material. One of the panel-engaging members is provided with a handle formation for facilitating movement of the door panel.

  • Patent number: 4106158
Abstract: This pivot assembly for a swinging or folding door can be readily adjusted for door height or position of the door pivot axis relative to the door jamb. An L-shaped bracket is connected into the corner between the floor and door jamb. The bracket has a number of discontinuities parallel to the floor to prevent translation. A pivot is mounted on the lower corner of the door, preferably by a plastic sleeve. The sleeve is threaded on the inside and a threaded pin is mounted therein. The lower end of the pin has means directly engaging the jamb bracket to prevent rotation and translation of the pin. To adjust the door in most embodiments it is lifted so that the head of the pin is out of engagement with the teeth in the slot. The pin is rotated by hand to move it up or down in the threaded sleeve. The pivot axis of the pin is adjusted by moving the pin to a desired position on the bracket.
