  • Patent number: 5444945
Abstract: A wall panelling system comprising two upright posts 13, a panel 11, a hinge 19 connecting the panel to one of the posts 13 and a lock 21 for locking the panel to another post. The posts 13 have a cross-sectional shape which provides features for the attachment of the hinge 19 and the locking means 21. The locking means comprises a latch member 23 pivotally mounted with respect to its post 13 and a catch 22 fixed relative to the panel 11. The latch member 23 is movable by means of a pinion 28 which meshes with teeth 27 on the latch member 23.

  • Patent number: 5425205
Abstract: A refrigerator includes a body forming a refrigeration compartment (for cooling or freezing). The compartment has an access opening closed by a pair of side-by-side doors that are hinged adjacent opposite vertical edges of the opening. Each door includes a frame and a slide mounted in a free edge of the slide for horizontal sliding movement. When the doors are being closed, the slides engage displacement surfaces on the body which pull the slides partially out of the frame so that resilient packing members carried by the slides are moved into contact with one another to create an air seal along a vertical interface between the two doors. A magnet on the body attracts metal plates carried by the slides to hold the doors closed. Keeper members can be mounted on the body for yieldably engaging grooves formed in the slides for aiding in holding the doors closed.

  • Patent number: 5417012
Abstract: An equipment cabinet employs a rack-mountable equipment enclosure surrounded by a base, a cap, and front and rear covers. Each cover consists of a bezel and a door reversibly mounted thereon via removable hinge pins. The bezels have sidewalls that rest against ledges on the edges of the enclosure to receive support therefrom. The door has a centrally-located latch, the latch having a pawl with an eccentric catch portion that engages a latch opening on a ledge extending from the bezel. The pawl also has a tab that rests between the ends of an arcuate raised portion on the rear of the door to limit the rotational travel of the pawl.

  • Patent number: 5406748
Abstract: A pet door apparatus that allows an animal to enter and exit an enclosure. The pet door includes a frame element defining an opening in the enclosure that has a top frame portion, and a flap element that closes the opening. The flap element has a top portion and extends, in a first orientation, substantially vertically downward from the top portion. The flap top portion includes a horizontally extending pivot element for pivotably moving the flap in response to an applied horizontal force. The flap top portion includes a camming element that vertically moves the top frame portion relative to the frame top portion during pivotal movement of the flap away from the generally vertical position. The opening defined by the frame element has a wider top that tapers to a narrower bottom. The flap is correspondingly tapered to seat within the frame element.

  • Patent number: 5406814
Abstract: An improved latch guarded door lock and frame system is provided. A recessed surface is provided in a hollow metal frame, and is dimensioned to accommodate a latch guard so that the external surfaces of the door, frame and latch guard are flush. The recessed surface of the frame behind the latch guard is further reinforced by employing a thicker wall than is used in the rest of the frame, and by welding a square metal tube into the recessed region. A medial metal support is also welded into the lock box cavity in order to prevent the lock box from collapsing under stress. The resulting door lock and frame system is less penetrable than prior systems, and provides greater security because the latch guard is less vulnerable to prying and because the frame and lock box are reinforced, thus less likely to collapse under stress.

  • Patent number: 5342123
Abstract: A door forming a part of a closure assembly is attached to the frame of the closure assembly by engaging bifurcated branches of a pivot arm with a pivot shaft. One of the branches is extended to engage a curved leaf spring which is deformed as the door and the extension is pivoted about the shaft. The deformation of the spring is instrumental in exerting a force on the extension to detent the door in the closed position and the extension may disengage from the spring surface when in the open position. To further stabilize the door, a stabilizer is formed on the back of the door and it engages the end of a recessed channel in the assembly, at a point coincident with the pivot axis of the door.

  • Patent number: 5029911
Abstract: A locking door threshold having an elongated vertical slot within the upper surface, an elongated striker bar received in the slot, the striker bar being vertically slidable within the slot between a lower position and an upper position in which the striker bar intercepts a door pivoted over the threshold, and a slide bar positioned within the slot and below the striker bar, the slide bar being horizontally slidable between a first and second position, the surfaces of the slide bar and the locking bar interrelating so that when the slide bar is in one position the locking bar is elevated to prevent opening of the door and when in the second position the locking bar is vertically lowered in the threshold slot to permit the door to be opened. A locking lever extending from the threshold and connected to the slide bar is used to control the position of the slide bar.

  • Patent number: 5018302
Abstract: A burglar bar assembly for establishing a security barrier across a door or window opening composed of a plurality of horizontal cross bars held in vertically spaced relation by intervening and transversely related vertical members. Certain of the vertical members are fixed rigidly to certain of the cross bars, but slidably joined to others in a manner to provide for extension and retraction adjustment of the barrier to accomodate variations in door or window dimensions. The bar assembly is hingedly connected at one end to a window or door frame to provide for swinging opening and closing operation of the barrier. A safety latch is mounted adjacent one end of the bar assembly and comprises a spring loaded cam member pivotally moveable against spring bias by a remotely operated cable. The cam member serves to capture and lock the unhinged end of the barrier to a rigid locking channel secured to the window or door frame; such channel having spaced angulated slots receptive of the cross bars.

Abstract: A pet door comprises a frame defining an aperture in which a flap is pivotally suspended so as to close the aperture when it hangs vertically. A pet such as a cat can push the flap either way to pass through the aperture when entering or leaving a house. Entry is controlled by a solenoid-operated catch which is energized when a magnet carried on a cat's collar enters the common detection zone of an array of reed switches disposed at the distal end of an extension of the bottom of the frame in spaced relation to the plane of the aperture.

  • Patent number: 4895400
Abstract: A slide latch for latching the leading edge of a door, formed of a plastic panel, to an adjacent jamb-like member, is formed of a narrow, thin, horizontally elongated, flat plate positioned upon the door surface for sliding movement towards and away from the jamb-like member. Integral, narrow, rigid flanges, forming sled-like runners, are formed along the horizontally elongated side edges of the slider for slidable engagement with the panel surface. The slider is held within an open-ended, horizontally elongated, flattened loop that is struck-out of the panel. Stops are formed near the opposite ends of the slider for engaging the ends of the loops and thereby limiting the sliding movement of the slider. One of the stops may be enlarged to form a manual grip for moving the slider.
