Abstract: A window balance assembly comprising an improved locking carrier mechanism is disclosed. The locking mechanism is actuated when the window sash is tilted. Cam surfaces on the receiver of the mechanism engage cam followers in the clamshell-type housing of the carrier forcing them apart outwardly to lock the carrier in the jamb channel of a window assembly and prevent movement of the carrier in the channel. The receiver incorporates two cams that engage two cam follower surfaces in the housing to improve the distribution of the locking forces of the carrier in the jamb channel. A dual-locking carrier expands in both the axial and lateral directions to contact both front and back surfaces and opposing side surfaces of the jamb channel.

  • Patent number: 7017304
Abstract: A panel assembly for a motor vehicle provides the ability to securely control the size of an opening defined by the panel assembly. The panel assembly thus provides a theft deterrent by making it more difficult to get through a partially open window. The panel assembly comprises a fixed panel defining an opening, and a moveable panel for selectively covering the opening. A handle is attached to the moveable panel and includes a cam that is moveably mounted to the handle and extends through a slot defined in the handle. The cam is biased against the rail and is operable between a locked position and an unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 6062663
Abstract: A door for a computer case is provided which can be moved to a blocking position for blocking access to bays and/or drives of the case. The door can be attached to the case by a slide connection for sliding it along the front of the case between its blocking and accessing positions. In the preferred form, the case is a vertical tower type of case and the door is preloaded on track guides so that when it is raised such as to the blocking position it will not fall back to the accessing position under the influence of its own weight. A gear drive can be provided between the door and housing to provide for smooth manual sliding of the door to readily allow the door to be pushed to overcome the frictional resistance provided by the preload without hang ups in the track guides.

  • Patent number: 4724577
Abstract: The invention is a force compensation device for use in a spring balanced sash holder for a jamb liner extruded from a durable resin such as polyvinyl chloride, and having a vertical track for containing the sash. Within the vertical track in the sash plow region and running the entire length of the jamb liner is a vertical slotted channel. The lower half of the slotted channel is used to develop frictional force for compensation of spring balance forces. The invention produces its compensating force by frictionally engaging the surfaces of the slotted channel. It comprises two parts, a carrier and a clapper. The carrier supports the weight of the sash, and is supported by the balance spring. The clapper is attached to the carrier. Both the carrier and clapper have braking elements which frictionally engage the surfaces of the slotted channel of the jamb liner track. The carrier and clapper are fastened together at their lower ends but their upper ends are free to move relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 4015367
Abstract: A window positioner adapted to hold a window in an open position includes a frictional engaging member having novel biasing means and bias releasing means whereby as the window is moved upwardly, the frictional force is minimized to allow ease of movement of the window. The frictional force is sufficient to maintain and hold the window in a desired open position. The positioner includes a pair of cooperative engaging members adapted to frictionally engage a rail formed on the window jamb. One of the members is movable relative to the other to shift toward and frictionally engage the rail when the window is in open position. The novel biasing means includes an elongated tapered channel formed in a housing supporting the members which operates to shift the engaging means toward and away from the rail with movement of the window sash between raised and lowered positions.
