Patent number: 11178905Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming a tube of planar material suitable for use as a casing for a cigarette. In some embodiments, a cone is disposed within an interior chamber of a housing, the cone having an annular base and a tapered portion extending from the annular base. The tapered portion has a frusto-conically shaped outer surface. A body portion is attachable to the annular base of the cone to induce rotation of the cone with respect to the housing. Rotation of the cone enables wrapping of a planar material, such as a rolling paper or a blunt sheet, about the cone to form a hollow tube having a frusto-conical shape. In further embodiments, a grinder assembly presses organic smokable material through a screen to direct the material through the body portion and into the tube. Filter media can be incorporated into the tube as desired.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2020Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Inventor: Sayed Amir Karim

Patent number: 6176069Abstract: A container having a casing made from composite carton and constituting a container body, which is covered on its inside by a barrier layer and a plastic layer deposited thereon, is produced in such a fashion that the casing is rolled over in an outward direction at one end to form a curled edge and, subsequently, a membrane is sealed onto the upper crown of the curled edge. A bottom is attached to the opposite end after the container is filled. In order to guarantee a sealed closure, the casing is tapered inwardly in a conical manner at its one end along a length which is larger than the circumference of the curled edge in such a manner that the outer diameter in the vicinity of the tapered end is smaller by approximately twice the diameter of the curled edge than the outer diameter of the casing. The end is then rolled over in an outer direction to form a curled edge and is then sealed by the membrane.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1998Date of Patent: January 23, 2001Assignee: Weidenhammer Packungen KG GmbH & Co.Inventor: Klaus Kössendrup

Patent number: 6135936Abstract: A bottom for a paper cup is formed by advancing a punch against a paperboard web to push the web against a cutting edge which cuts out a circular cup bottom blank from the web. The punch is kept in a forward state to clamp an outer peripheral portion of the blank immovably against a surface of a sleeve. A reciprocable draw is advanced against a center portion of the blank to push the center portion into a circular opening of the sleeve while maintaining the clamping force, to cause the center portion of the blank to become stretched. The clamping force is then progressively released to permit the outer peripheral portion to enter the opening and become bent to form a lip extending at a substantially right angle. The lip is compressed within a gap formed between the draw and a surface of the opening. Because of the stretching of the blank, pleats formed in the lip are only in the form of micropleats that are flattened in a non-folded over state.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1999Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Assignee: Fort James CorporationInventors: David C. Patent number: 5363982Abstract: A thermally insulated cup or container (30) includes a smooth outer shell (12S), a smooth inner shell (13S), a corrugated layer (11L) sandwiched therebetween, and a bottom closure (14). The inner shell, corrugated layer, and outer shell are formed by simply winding a continuous elongated paper sheet (10) in a three-layered spiral, then sealing them together. The corrugated layer forms many air pockets between the shells to thermally insulate the contents of the cup, and also provide structural strength. The paper construction of the cup makes it biodegradable and recyclable, and the simple construction method of the cup makes it easy and inexpensive to manufacture.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1994Date of Patent: November 15, 1994Inventor: Claus E. Patent number: 5081820Abstract: A method for applying an end plate to a container body includes applying a heated end blank made of deformable material to one end of the container body and creating a pressure difference between the two sides of the end blank to seal the edges of the end blank to the edges of the container body. The apparatus for applying an end plate to a container body includes a jacket having a chamber into which the container body can be fitted. A vacuum source is provided at one end of the jacket and a lid or clamping device is located at the opposite end of the jacket. The chamber into which the container body is fitted is not as deep as the container body so that when the container body is fitted into the chamber, the upper edges of the container body extend above the surface of the jacket. In that, the end blank can be applied to the container body and thereafter, the clamping device is used to clamp the end blank between the upper edge of the jacket and the clamping device.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1989Date of Patent: January 21, 1992Assignee: Aktiebolaget ProforInventor: Ulf Nedstedt

Patent number: 5029749Abstract: A container formed of paper material is disclosed including a substantially cylindrical body having an upper, a lower, a bottom integrally formed with the cylindrical body and closing the lower end, and a brim integrally formed on the upper end of the cylindrical body, the paper material being oriented such that the machine direction of the paper material is aligned with the circumferential direction of the container. The container being formed by providing a paper blank having a machine direction and a cross machine direction, forming the paper blank into a substantially cylindrical body having first and second open ends with the machine direction of the paper blank being aligned substantially with the circumferential direction of the body, closing one of the open ends to form a bottom of the container and forming a brim about the other of the open ends.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1990Date of Patent: July 9, 1991Assignee: James River CorporationInventor: Robert J. Patent number: 4998911Abstract: An apparatus 10 controls the orientation of a lid section 16 prior to mating the lid section 16 with a pail section 14 to form a complete container 17. The lid section 16 has bunghole 18 of a preselected diameter positioned at a preselected radial distance from the center of the lid section 16. The bunghole 18 is defined by an annular wall extending a preselected distance from a lower surface of the lid section 16. A first plate 54 receives the lid section 16 with the bunghole 18 extending into a central passage 56. The central passage 56 extends athrough 56 the plate 54 with an upper section 58 of the passage 56 having a preselected width at least twice the preselected radial distance of the bunghole 18 from the center of the lid section 16. A lower section 60 of the passage 56 has a preselected width at least as wide the bunghole diameter.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1989Date of Patent: March 12, 1991Assignee: Velasco Scale CompanyInventors: Robert H. Patent number: 4610655Abstract: In the manufacture of paper containers, a paper jacket is wound upon a first support mandrel. The wound jacket is transferred to a second support mandrel by a transfer device. A positioning device in the form of a circular ring is situated in front of the second support mandrel. The jacket is pushed through the ring en route to the second mandrel and thus becomes aligned with said second mandrel while simultaneously being shaped in accordance with the circular cross-section of the ring to conform to the circular cross-section of the second mandrel.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1984Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Michael Horauf Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co.
