Abstract: A process for increasing the resistance of the cut edges of liquid packaging board to penetration by hot hydrogen peroxide, comprising adding to an aqueous pulp slurry at a neutral to alkaline pH, either separately or in preblended form an aqueous emulsion of a cellulose-reactive size, a non-cellulose-reactive size selected from the group consisting of waxes, bis-stearamides, and fatty acid derivatives, and a thermosetting resin that is capable of covalent bonding to cellulose fibre and self-cross-linking.
Abstract: A method of forming a skived edge on the inside panel of a thermoplastic coated paperboard container, in part while the container is part of a web or sheet of paperboard material, and in part on individual blanks after being cut from the web or sheet. More specifically, a partial depth cut and an adjacent score line are formed on a carton converting machine providing a precise location for subsequently removing material and folding the edge of a blank on a side seam sealing machine.
Abstract: The invention relates to a tear-open flap orifice on packs consisting of plastic-coated laminated material with a folded-round fillet-seam closure (10), there being in a first seam region (14) at least one full cut and in a second seam region (15) at least one weakening line in the form of a half cut which extends beyond the second seam region into the region of the first pack surface in contact with the filling material of the pack. As a result of an appropriate arrangement of the full cuts and half cuts, an easy-to-handle tear-open flap orifice is obtained by simple means for the entire range from drinking-straw, pour-out, drinking and spoon orifices to separating-strip orifices on freeze packs.
Abstract: A unique resealable container is described together with a method for converting a standard container of the type commonly used for packaging milk or other liquids into said container. An apparatus for carrying out this method is also described. The resealable container consists of a rectangular box having four flaps and a closing band for sealing the box. The closing band holds the flaps in their closed position. The container may be produced by making six cuts in a standard container of the type normally used to package milk or the like. The cuts are made with the apparatus of the present invention using an ordinary kitchen knife. The apparatus of the present invention supports the container during the cutting process and guides the knife to assure that the cuts are made in the correct locations.
Abstract: An absorbent surgical dressing comprising an envelope of hydrophobic fabric with an absorbent pad arranged within it is disclosed. The dressing of the present invention excludes the possibility of secondary lesions being caused to the wound or injury. For this purpose the internal pad forming the absorbent pad is kept loose, so as to allow slight movement of the pad in the flexible envelope tube thereby dissipating the shearing forces acting on the envelope fabric. Moreover, to obviate the secondary lesions from occurring on the wound, the loose threads at the longitudinal ends of the surgical dressing are closed by welding and severed. A process for the manufacture of the surgical dressing meeting these requirements is also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a working head for a so called passepartout-machine by means of which rectangular cuttings and/or impressions can be made in a plain material and which is formed with a knife (6) or an impression roller which is mounted in a holder (30) which is connected to a rotatable housing (5) for being lifted and lowered. A pressure roller (7) adapted to be in contact with the plain material is likewise connected to the rotatable housing (5) for being lifted and lowered. The rotatable housing (5) is fixed connected to a central shaft (2) at the upper end of which a Maltese cross (14) is mounted and which by engagement with a cam disc (9) having a pin (10) and provided on a driving shaft (1) for the Maltese cross (14) can be rotated intermittently, so that the central shaft (2) is rotated one forth of a turn when the driving shaft (1) is rotated a full turn. The Maltese cross (14) has recesses (16 ) for a movable locking wedge (34) which locks the central shaft (2) after the rotation.
Abstract: In the formation of containers wherein an endless sheet material is continuously fed, finished, cut into blanks of predetermined length, and the blanks are formed into containers, the improvement wherein the finishing includes the steps of shaving off a longitudinal strip from one face of the sheet material so as to reduce the thickness of the sheet material along said strip, and removing by suction the strip shaved away. An apparatus therefor comprises a roller for supporting said sheet material, and a rotary hollow knife aligned with one longitudinal edge of the sheet material adjacent the supporting roller, the axis of rotation of the hollow knife being substantially parallel to the longitudinal edge.
