    Abstract: A process for producing a polymer or copolymer of an olefin which comprises polymerizing or copolymerizing at least one olefin with or without a diolefin in the presence of a catalyst composed of (A) a magnesium-containing solid titanium catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, a halogen and an electron donor as essential ingredients and (B) an organoaluminum compound catalyst component; characterized in that(1) said catalyst further comprises (C) an organic silicon compound catalyst component having an Si--O--C or Si--N--C bond, and(2) said electron donor in the catalyst component (A) is a cyclic mono- or poly-ester such as diethyl furane-3,4-dicarboxylate, di-n-butyl 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrane-5,6-dicarboxylate, di-isobutyl pyrrole-2,3-dicarboxylic, di-n-butyl thiophene-2,3-dicarboxylate, n-octyl pyrrolidine-2,3-dicarboxylate, and so on.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a polyolefin using a catalyst system of an ingredient (A) and ingredient (B), with ingredient A being obtained through successive reaction steps. Ingredient A is prepared by forming a mixture of (1) the combination of (a) metallic magnesium or an oxygen-containing organic compound of magnesium with (b) a mixture of a monohydroxylated organic compound and a polyhydroxylated organic compound, and (2) oxygen-containing organic compounds of titanium. The resulting solution is reacted in sequence with (3) at least one first halogenated aluminum compound, (4) at least one silicon compound and (5) at least one second halogenated aluminum compound. Compounds 3 and 5 are added at temperatures not exceeding about 25.degree. C. Ingredient B is an organometallic compound of metals from Group Ia, IIa, IIIa or IVa of the Periodic Table. The resulting free-flowing polyolefin is characterized by a large average particle size and small amount of fine particles.

    Abstract: A process for preparing spherical particles of a compound with the general formula Mg(OR).sub.2-a (OR').sub.a is disclosed. In the process R is an alkyl group with from 2 to 8 carbon atoms, R' is an alkyl group with from 1 to 7 carbon atoms and a is a number of from 0 to 0.5. The process comprises preparing a homogeneous solution of a compound Mg(OR).sub.2 in an aliphatic alcohol with the general formula R'OH, spray-drying the solution at a temperature of from 15.degree. to 85.degree. C., suspending the spray-dried solid particles in an aliphatic alcohol with the formula ROH in which R is the same alkyl group as present in the said compound Mg(OR).sub.2, heating the suspension in order to remove an alcohol with the formula R'OH from the liquid phase by distillation and separating the solid particles from the liquid phase.

An example of the compound or complex of an element of the transition metal, lanthanide or actinide series is that which results when catechol which is covalently bonded to the polymer is contacted with titanium tetraisopropoxide. These catalysts are useful in preparing polymers with reduced halide content which reduces corrosion in polymer processing equipment.
