  • Patent number: 6281174
Abstract: Lubricating compositions are described which contain organomolybdenum compounds and sulfur compounds (donors). The copper corrosion of said compositions is reduced by reacting the sulfur donors with plant oils to reduce sulfur activity and thus copper corrosion prior to the sulfur donors being added to the majority of oil to form a lubricating composition.

  • Patent number: 6245725
Abstract: There is provided a lubricating composition including a lubricating base containing an asymmetric sulfurized oxymolybdenum dithiocarbamate of the formula (1); a symmetric sulfurized oxymolybdenum dithiocarbamate of the formula (2); and a phenolic or aminic antioxidant. (wherein R1 to R5 are each a hydrocarbon group, provided that R1 to R4 are not concurrently the same group; and X1 to X8 are each a sulfur atom or an oxygen atom.) This lubricating composition meets both the required solubility of additives in base oils and long drain properties concurrently.

  • Patent number: 6232276
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition is provided comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of at least one trinuclear molybdenum compound. Preferably, the trinuclear molybdenum compound is selected from those compounds having the formula Mo3SkL4Qz and mixtures thereof in which L is a ligand having organo groups with a sufficient number of carbon atoms to render the compound soluble in the oil, k varies from 4 through 7, Q is selected from the group of compounds having lone pair electrons including water, amines, alcohols, phosphines, and ethers, and z ranges from 0 to 5. In general, the organo groups of the mono-anionic ligands will be the same although they may be different, and they preferably are selected from alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, and ether groups. For example, when L is a dialkyldithiocarbamate or a dialkyldithiophosphate, the alkyl groups will have from about 1 to 30 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 6165949
Abstract: A premium synthetic lubricant having antiwear properties comprises a synthetic isoparaffinic hydrocarbon base stock and an effective amount of at least one antiwear additive. The antiwear additive is preferably at least one of a metal phosphate, a metal dialkyldithiophosphate, a metal dithiophosphate a metal thiocarbamate, a metal dithiocarbamate, an ethoxylated amine dialkyldithiophosphate and an ethoxylated amine dithiobenzoate. Metal dialkyldithiophosphates are preferred, particularly zincdialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP). The base stock is derived from a waxy, Fischer-Tropsch synthesized hydrocarbon feed fraction comprising hydrocarbons having an initial boiling point in the range of about 650-750.degree. F., by a process which comprises hydroisomerizing the feed and dewaxing the isomerate. The lubricant may also contain hydrocarbonaceous and synthetic base stock material in admxture with the Fischer-Tropsch derived base stock.
