Patent number: 6150404Abstract: The phenoxybenzyl moiety of conventional pyrethroids is a major site of oxidative metabolism in resistant tobacco budworms, Heliothis virescens (F.). This group was replaced with several P450 monooxygenase-inhibiting or oxidatively blocked groups. The fatty acid ester compounds can be used in conjunction with other nematicidal agents such as free fatty acids, fatty acid salts, avermectins, ivermectin, and milbemycin. In another embodiment, the subject invention further provides methods for killing the eggs of nematodes. Thus, the subject invention further relates to the surprising discovery that certain fatty acid esters have ovicidal activity against nematode eggs.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1997Date of Patent: September 26, 2000Assignee: Mycogen CorporationInventors: Jerald S. Patent number: 6121318Abstract: Reptiles are treated to eradicate or to prevent an infestation of ectoparasites, by applying a formulation having a substantially non-volatile active ingredient that is toxic to ectoparasites but generally benign to a reptile to be treated, on an inside surface of a container, and confining the reptile inside the container. In one embodiment, a substrate is placed in the container on which substrate the reptile rests when confined, and the formulation is applied on the substrate. The treatment is particularly suitable for snakes. Permethrin may form the active ingredient of the formulation. The treatment has residual benefits over an extended period of time.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1998Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Inventor: Roberl Pound

Patent number: 6114323Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for inhibiting protein aging. Accordingly, methods are disclosed for treating an animal to inhibit the formation of advanced glycosylation end products of target proteins with the animal by adminstering a pharmaceutical composition comprising an agent capable of reacting with the carbonyl moiety of the early glycosylation product, whereby the subsequent cross-linking of the early glycosylation product is inhibited. Agents of the present invention comprise aminoguanidine, its pharmaceutically acceptable salts, and mixtures thereof.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: The Rockefeller UniversityInventors: Anthony Cerami, Peter C.
