Abstract: A method of improving the levels of formed blood elements in a patient having disease or therapy induced leukopenia comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutically acceptable, water or lipid soluble tertiary or quaternary amine having cholinergic or anticholinesterase activity.

Abstract: Phosphonocarboxylic acids, such as phosphonosuccinic acid and especially 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid, and aminopolycarboxylic acids, advantageously tetrasodium trimethylene diamine tetracetate or trisodium nitrilotriacetate, are added to aqueous or aqueous solvent-containing disinfectant solutions based on aldehydes and quaternary ammonium compounds for corrosion inhibition and pH-adjustment to 3.5-4.0, respectively. The corrosion inhibiting effect of the two salts is synergistic.

Abstract: This invention is concerned with new .beta.-[2-(halogenobenzyl)-phenoxy]-ylamine derivatives of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl group having a linear or branched hydrocarbon chain,R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may identical or different, represent each a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-group, andAr represents a polychlorophenyl group of the formula ##STR2## (in which Y.sub.1 is 4-Cl, Y.sub.2 is H or Cl, and Y.sub.3 is H or Cl, at least one of the Y.sub.2 and Y.sub.3 being Cl); and their addition salts.These new compounds are useful as pharmaceuticals.

Abstract: A compressed powder formulation which consists essentially of an organophilic clay and at least one topical agent. The formulation maintains its physical integrity upon handling thereby permitting the preparation of the formulation in the form of self-supporting sticks and exhibits an acceptable level of payout. Additionally, the formulation retains an acceptable level of payout even when contacted with water. A process of making the formulation by compressing a powderous mixture is also set forth.

Abstract: Polymers having antibacterial activity are disclosed. The polymers are water-dispersible vinyl copolymers comprising(a) from 15 to 90 mole percent of recurring polymerized vinyl monomer units having a quaternary nitrogen cationic group containing an alkyl substituent having 14 to 20 carbon atoms and(b) from 10 to 85 mole percent recurring polymerized vinyl monomer units having a quaternary nitrogen cationic group having one or more alkyl substituents containing less than 14 carbon atoms.

Abstract: The invention relates to the preparation of new diethylaminoalkoxybenzhydrol derivatives of the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, halogen, trihalomethyl, alkyl having from one to 4 carbon atoms or alkoxy having from one to 4 carbon atoms,R.sub.2 is halogen, trihalomethyl, or alkoxy having from one to 4 carbon atoms, andn is 1, 2, 3 or 4,and acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof.According to another aspect of the invention, there are provided new compounds of the formula (I), and acid addition and quaternary salts thereof. The compounds can be used for the treatment of acute ethanolic intoxication and depression syndromes. Pharmaceutical compositions containing them as active ingredient are also within the scope of the invention.

Abstract: Novel polyquaternary ammonium compounds prepared from N,N'-bis(dialkylaminoalkyl)ureas, hydrochloric acid, epichlorohydrin and tertiary amines are useful as microbicides, corrosion inhibitors, debonding agents, flocculants, softeners, anti-static agents, and demulsifiers.

Abstract: A method for inducing an anticurare response by administering 2,4-diaminopyridine to a mammal is disclosed, together with pharmaceutical compositions containing an effective amount of 2,4-diaminopyridine either alone or in combination with an anticholinesterase agent. 2,4-Diaminopyridine is an antagonist of muscle relaxants used in anesthesiology and can increase neuromuscular transmission in certain disease states.

Abstract: Polymeric quaternary ammonium compounds having recurring vinylbenzyl ammonium units are disclosed. The quaternary ammonium units preferably have 2 alkyl substituents of 1 to 4 carbons and 1 alkyl substituent of 4 to 12 carbons. These materials have antimicrobial properties and are particularly useful for preserving ophthalmic solutions.
