Abstract: Disclosed are selenium sulfide lotion shampoos containing peroxy oxidizing agents, such as hydrogen peroxide and sodium percarbonate. These compositions provide antidandruff efficacy and do not become discolored upon storage. A method for preparing color-stable selenium sulfide shampoo compositions is also taught.

Abstract: The invention concerns the esters of hyaluronic acid in which all or only a portion of the carboxylic groups of the acid are esterfied, and the salts of the partial esters with metals or with pharmacologically acceptable organic bases.The compounds possess interesting and precious bioplastic and pharmaceutical properties and may be used in innumerable fields, including cosmetics, surgery and medicine. The invention also includes pharmaceutical preparations containing, as an active ingredient, one or more hyaluronic acid esters, or a salt thereof as described above, as well as medicaments containing:(1) a pharmacologically active substance or an association of pharmacologically active substances and(2) a carrying vehicle containing a total or partial ester of hyaluronic acid. The invention includes also various uses of the hyaluronic esters or of the above mentioned medicaments, such as in medicine, surgery or cosmetics.

Abstract: An oil based composition for the treatment of dry scalp conditions, dry skin conditions, and human hair is shown and decribed. This composition is made by placing grated avocado seed in a mineral oil solution for a period of time, straining the grated avocado seed from the mineral oil solution, and addition of other ingredients which include flowers of sulfur, castor oil, cod liver oil, peppermint spirit, orange water, spirit of camphor, and arnica.The composition described herein is used to treat dry scalp and skin conditions by placing the mixture on the treatment area for a substantial period of time and then shampooing it off.

Abstract: The present invention provides a composition comprising L-carnitine in a suitable vehicle for topical application in an effective amount. The present compositions are useful in improving or healing skin conditions including wrinkling, dry or peeling skin, and burns (particularly sunburn), and in healing and prevention of scar formation, particlarly that caused by infection by a pathogen. Treatment methods are also provided.

Abstract: A clear, therapeutic hair care composition is presented having a low pH and useful in the local treatment of dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis of the scalp which resists oxidative decomposition. The shampoo is comprised of a detergent shampoo base, a therapeutic amount of a keratolytic agent and a keratolytic stabilizing agent to stabilize the keratolytic agent against oxidative decoloration decomposition catalyzed by ultraviolet radiation exposure. The keratolytic agent is preferably a salicylate and preferably salicylic acid and the keratolytic stabilizing agent is a tertiary amine.

Abstract: A scalp treatment for reducing average daily hair loss periodically applies to the scalp a composition containing an active chelating agent sufficient to chelate at least 0.3 milligrams of divalent calcium ion per milliliter of the composition and leaving the chelating agent in contact with the scalp for at least eight hours. Particularly preferred chelating agents comprise ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, citric acid, and soluble salts thereof.

Abstract: Personal care compositions are provided which have as a thickening agent a lightly cross-linked cationic vinyl addition polymer. Such compositions include water, at least one cosmetically-active agent, and such thickening agent, preferably one derived from the polymerization of a cationic vinyl addition monomer, acrylamide, and a small amount of a difunctional vinyl addition monomer for cross-linking purposes. Alternatively, the cross-linking functionality can be provided by the incorporation of an anionic vinyl addition monomer into the polymer.

Abstract: Cosmetic compositions are disclosed for the treatment of hair or skin, characterized by a content of new quaternary chitosan derivatives of the formula ##STR1## Also disclosed are the new quaternary chitosan derivatives per se as well as processes for their preparation. The chitosan derivatives have a good substantivity, particularly to hair keratin, and prove to have hair strengthening and hair conditioning characteristics.

Abstract: A hair cosmetic composition contains (A) 0.01 -20 wt % of one or more of specific branched quaternary ammonium salts and (B) 0.1-30 wt % of oils and fats. The hair cosmetic composition is excellent in imparting softness, smoothness and antistaticity to the hair and even when oils and fats are contained in a large amount, does not leave oily appearance or feeling on the hair.

Abstract: There is provided a dermatological composition for treating acne and similar skin lesions which comprises benzoyl peroxide and gel from the plant Aloe vera. The gel from Aloe vera helps to reduce specific undesirable reactions which would otherwise result from the use of benzoyl peroxide to treat skin lesions.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided for the removal ofsebum exudate from the skin. The composition comprises immobilzed enzymes in cosmetically acceptable vehicles for topical application. The immobilized enzymes are lipolytic lipases, proteolytic proteases and enzymes for the breakdown of sugar oligomers from glucoproteins in the skin exudates. The enzymes may be present individually or in any desired combination. The enzymes are immobilized in known manners by chemical and or physical means and are released from immobilization upon application to the skin.
