Abstract: This invention relates to the method for treating human baldness, including the form of alopecia commonly known as "male pattern baldness", which comprises regular topical application to the affected areas of the human scalp of minoxidil and an anti-inflammatory agent.

Abstract: There are disclosed a novel desiccant containing anhydrous maltose and dehydration of hydrous matters, e.g. food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic, therewith. Abstract: Platelet enriched plasma is produced from blood. The platelets are activated by thrombin which causes the release of platelet-derived growth and angiogenesis factors. A carrier such as a microcrystalline collagen is added to produce a wound-treating salve. The composition is applied directly to wounds and initiates healing in nonhealing wounds as well as accelerating normal wound-healing by increasing vascularization, stimulating fibroblast mitosis and migration, and increasing collagen synthesis by fibroblasts. The composition is also applied to tissue to facilitate the growth of hair.

Abstract: A composition for effectively treating dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis comprising a combination of essential ingredients consisting of microfine particles of a clay mineral containing adsorbed magnesium, water, ethanol, sodium chloride and, optionally, minor amounts of glycerin and precipitated sulfur. The effectiveness of the method in treating such scalp diseases by topical application to the scalp epidermis is predicated on the capacity of the composition to release and deliver magnesium cations and hydroxyl anions to the causative sites and return the associated pathological cells to a normal morphology.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing a W/O/W type multiple emulsion using a polyglycerol polyricinolate (i.e. a polyglycerol ester of a polycondensed fatty acid of castor oil).The use of the polyglycerol polyricinolate is effective in increasing the rate of formation of the W/O/W type multiple emulsion remarkably and giving a W/O/W type multiple emulsion which is stable over a long period of time. The W/O/W type multiple emulsion has also an excellent heat stability and is useful for the production of medicines and cosmetics.

Abstract: Amino acid chelates having a ligand to divalent metal mole ratio of at least 2:1 and having a molecular weight of not more than 1500 and preferably not more than 1000 and also having a stability constant of between about 10 and 10 are formulated for delivery to one or more specific tissue sites within a mammal. The ligand utilized in formulating the amino acid chelate is a naturally occuring amino acid or a dipeptide, tripeptide or quadrapeptide thereof. The selection of an appropriate ligand with which to form the chelate provides a product that, when entering the bloodstream of the mammal, either by mean of oral ingestion or injection, has a propensity to migrate to one or more targeted tissue sites within the mammal.

Abstract: A creamy water-in-oil conditioner-dressing for hair comprising: wheat germ oil, Brewers yeast flakes, the oils of vitamins A, D and E, propylene glycol, glycerol, jojoba oil, methyl and propyl parabens, deionized water, petrolatum, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, n-stearyl alcohol, n-cetyl alcohol and fragrance.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a preparation for the treatment of skin or scalp affections, with an exclusively plant basis, obtained by infusion in vinegar of Geum, Lavandula, Mentha, Allium, and Salvia, preferably with the addition of other plant substances having a calmative or aroma-giving action; the preparation has shown itself to be outstandingly efficacious in impeding certain conditions which promote loss of hair.

Abstract: A polycyclic heterocyclic compound has the formula ##STR1## wherein n is 1 or 2, R.sub.1 represents (i) lower alkyl, (ii)--CH.sub.2 OH or (iii) ##STR2## R.sub.2 represents (a) hydrogen, (b) ##STR3## or (c)--OR.sub.3, R.sub.3 represents hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl mono or polyhydroxyalkyl, aryl or aralkyl optionally substituted, the residue of a sugar or wherein p is 1, 2, or 3, and r' and r" represent hydrogen, lower alkyl, mono or polyhydroxalkyl, aryl optionally substituted, amino acid residue, aminated sugar residue, or together form a heterocycle, X represents oxygen, sulfur, SO, SO.sub.2 or --NR.sub.4, Y represents CR.sub.4 or a nitrogen atom and R.sub.4 represents hydrogen or lower alkyl. This polycyclic heterocyclic compound can be used in human and veterinary medicine and especially in the topical or systemic treatment of determatologic diseases.
