Panel Or Panel Edging, Directly Clamped Or Adhered To Wall Patents (Class 52/208)
  • Patent number: 4876132
Abstract: A process is described for installing an automobile glazing by direct gluing in which an extrusion nozzle deposits an adhesive mass in bead form on one of two surfaces to be glued. The bead can either be used directly for gluing or, after hardening, act as a profile placed on glazing which is used as an intermediary between the glazing and a second gluing bead. Embedded within the bead are a plurality of high tensile strength flexible wires. During the removal of the glazing the wires are used to shear the bead where they have been introduced, i.e., either in profile or in the second gluing bead. The wires are positioned so that each has to shear only a part of the section of profile or of the bead.

  • Patent number: 4875317
Abstract: A simulated architectural component such as a framed window or vent is formed by vacuum molding, and includes an undercut or recess on the laterally outer edges of a surrounding frame portion. The undercut is adapted to receive and conceal the abutting edges of aluminum or plastic siding panels of an exterior wall into which such component is installed. The undercut is formed during the vacuum molding process by the use of a split ring which is removed from the mold with the finished part and is thereafter separated from the part as permitted by its split construction.

  • Patent number: 4873803
Abstract: A window structure using a structural retainer support for converting a conventional window into a double insulated window. Sealant tape is applied to the inside periphery of the primary conventional window pane. A thin flat retainer is secured to the window adjacent to the sealant tape. The flat retainer has a flange that is integral with the retainer and extends from its midsection and lies parallel to the adjacent flat portion defining a channel therebetween. A second window pane lies in abutting contact with the flange of the retainer while also lying in abutting contact with the sealant strip which is tacky to provide a dead air space between the two window panes. A trim member is latched to the retainer by having a longitudinally extending strip means that latches into a latch means in the channel of the retainer. The trim member exerts pressure on the second window pane to firmly retain the pane against the sealant tape.

Abstract: A window frame member formed as a hollow extrusion of rigid plastics material has a hollow space partly defined by a wall portion including two opposed, undercut lips and a web interconnecting the lips. Internal grooves are provided along the junctions of the web with the lips to provide lines of severance allowing the web to be readily removed so as to provide a slot between the edges of the lips. Preferably, the web and adjoining parts of the lips have a smooth, uninterrupted exterior surface. This invention allows the frame member to be used either with the web in place, in which case there is no slot or observable discontinuity in the exterior wall, or with the web removed where it is desired to provide a slot for weather stripping or attachment of adjacent pieces. The web may be readily removed with simple tools.

The frame comprises a first and second skins in opposed relationship defining a cavity therebetween. The interior edge of the frame has internal support ribs which act in conjunction with the interior edge of the frame to grip the edge of the central panel while the exterior edges of the skins are separated by a sizable insert. The cavity between the skins is filled with a foamable insulating material which surrounds the edge of the central panel and forms a weathertight seal.

Abstract: A window glass is supported on a support pin which is in turn installed on a vehicle body. A double-faced adhesive tape is interposed between the support pin and the window glass for temporary attachment of the window glass to the vehicle body. A space is provided between the window glass and the vehicle body and filled with sealant-adhesive for permanent attachment of the window glass to the vehicle body. A corner joint of a window molding has a head portion covering a corner portion of the space and an anchor portion inserted into the space to be secured by the sealant-adhesive to the vehicle body. The anchor portion is L-shaped in cross section so as to cooperate with the head portion to clamp therebetween the window glass for temporary attachment of the corner joint to the vehicle body and the window glass.

  • Patent number: 4707958
Abstract: A rigid window pane having an edge is mounted in a rigid window opening having a rigid border with an annular gasket by first providing on the outer periphery of the gasket a layer of adhesive and fitting the gasket around the edge of the pane. Then the pane carrying the gasket is fitted to the window opening with the adhesive layer engaging the opening border and at the same time the pane carrying the gasket is heated and pressed into this opening to soften the gasket until it externally deforms plastically to complementarily fit the opening border. Subsequently the gasket is cooled and cured so it hardens and retains the shape imparted to it by the heat and pressure. The gasket is formed of a thermoplastic synthetic resin or of a vulcanizable or polymerizable, that is heat-curing, synthetic resin or rubber. The polymerization can include the processes of polycondensation or polyaddition.

Abstract: A molded panel assembly such as that for a vehicle window and various embodiments of fasteners for mounting on the molded panel assembly and securing the panel assembly to a support such as a vehicle body are disclosed. The panel assembly is of the type including a panel with a peripheral edge and a casing of molded material, such as a resinous plastic, molded around at least a portion of the peripheral edge of the panel. Each of the fasteners includes a base, resilient means on the base for engaging a rigid member, such as the window panel itself, to urge the base into sealing contact with a mold portion during molding of the casing of the assembly and for retaining the fastener in the molded portion or casing of the assembly. Attachment means are also provided on the base for securing the fastener and panel assembly to a support.

Abstract: A pane such as a windshield for a motor vehicle is firmly connected by means of an adhesive element to an elastomer profile which is fitted onto a flange of a frame of the pane. The elastomer profile is composed of a U-shaped clamping part having a metallic reinforcing insert and a supporting part for holding the pane at a distance from the frame. Also included is a recess on the top side of the supporting part for receiving a string-shaped adhesive element. This arrangement allows for compensating process tolerances while reducing the amount of required bonding agent. Additionally, this arrangement provides for the pane to be held securely within the frame in the event of an accident.
