Patent number: 5355651Abstract: A glass mounting arrangement for mounting a window glass in a window frame comprises a channel-shaped flexible strip which has apertures at intervals therealong. Each aperture sealingly receives an arm of a respective mounting clip. Each mounting clip has a U-shaped portion which seats in a recess in the channel of the strip. The strip with the clips mounted therein is placed on and along the peripheral edge of the window glass before the latter is offered up to the window frame. As the window glass is moved bodily towards the window frame, the arms contact the window frame and correctly position the window glass with respect to the window frame. The arms of the clips elastically deform to allow locking shoulders to pass over the edge of the frame, the arms thereafter resiling to secure the window glass in position. Lips provide additional sealing. The mounting arrangement is particularly suitable for use with a robot.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1993Date of Patent: October 18, 1994Assignee: Draftex Industries LimitedInventor: Jacques Correia

Patent number: 5135788Abstract: A glass pane has a pair of opposite faces and an outer edge and is held in a structural channel forming a groove by an adapter. The adapter is formed in part by respective metallic edge strips each having an inner portion overlying a respective face of the pane and an outer portion projecting outward therefrom and into the groove. The outer edge of the pane is spaced from the channel and lies wholly outside the groove. Inner portions of the strips are secured to the respective faces of the pane and a nonmetallic bar is secured between the outer portions of the edge strips and engaged in the groove. The strips are secured to the glass by an adhesive and each strip includes a perforate under strip adhered to the glass and an imperforate cover strip adhered atop the under strip. The adhesive has a silicone or water-glass base and is quite resistant to heat.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1990Date of Patent: August 4, 1992Assignee: Flachglas AktiengesellschaftInventor: Hans-Henning Nolte

Patent number: 5115612Abstract: A transparent thermal panel is formed by two panes of glass each curved concentrically about one axis to form a section of a cylinder, and each being sealed at their edges. The envelope thus produced is evacuated. The evacuated glass envelope is attached to the uprights of a frame using a torsioned clamp which counteracts the bending stresses created by the vacuum in the glass envelope. Two such evacuated glass envelopes may be joined together and a solar collector placed between them. Combinations of one or both of the thermal panel and the solar collector may be used to cover the outside of a building.Coating the interior of the panels with a low emissivity material provides for increased R value.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1990Date of Patent: May 26, 1992Assignee: Vacuglas, Inc.Inventors: Anthony J. Patent number: 5114206Abstract: Mounting of a window glass plate on a vehicle body panel, wherein the window glass plate is bonded at a peripheral portion thereof to an opening portion of the vehicle body panel. A holding strip member is fitted with an upper edge portion and opposite side edge portions of the window glass plate. A leg portion of a molding is inserted and retained in a groove of the holding strip member. The leg portion has a pawl adapted to engage a projection formed in the groove of the holding strip member. A garnish portion extends from a top of the leg portion of the window glass plate side.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1990Date of Patent: May 19, 1992Assignee: Tokai Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Yukihiki Yada

Patent number: 5112101Abstract: A molding installation has a molding concealing a space between an edge of a window panel and a compartment lid. The molding is mounted on a body panel of the motor vehicle by a curable adhesive. The molding has a C-shaped channel member of plastic material fitted on the edge of the window panel and having spaced apart outer and inner legs which forcibly grip the opposed outer and inner faces of the window panel. A means of spacing the channel is coextruded with the channel member and adapted for engaging the body panel of the motor vehicle to space the window panel from the motor vehicle. A locking nub is coextruded with the channel member and has a head spaced from the channel member by a neck. The head is adapted to seat within the curable adhesive to mechanically retain the molding onto the body panel. A decorative portion is extruded integral with the means of spacing and has a brim projects towards the compartment lid for overlying the space between window panel and the compartment lid.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1991Date of Patent: May 12, 1992Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Ricky V. Patent number: 5107646Abstract: The disclosure relates to a molding member, for instance for automobile front window plates, as well as a method of manufacturing such molding members. The molding member has a lip section in the form of a ridge which extends throughout the entire length. The lip section bears against the surface of the window plate along the upper portion to realize a flush outer surface between the upper edge of the window plate and the body panel, but is spaced therefrom along the side portions to define a weir. The weir can be formed by deforming a predetermined location of the ridge, and prevents flow of the rain water across the molding member to preserve the driver's or passenger's sight through the window.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1988Date of Patent: April 28, 1992Assignee: Hashimoto Forming Industry Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tatsuya Tamura

Patent number: 5095669Abstract: A motor vehicle glazing prepared for installation is provided with one or more profiled spacers produced by extrusion of an extrudable polymer directly onto the glazing. A first spacer is provided along its outer periphery with an lip portion projecting beyond the peripheral area of the glazing. In the installed position of the glazing the lip portion rests against the window frame flange running parallel to the peripheral area of the glazing and acts, upon insertion of the glazing and during the setting process of the assembly adhesive, as a support and centering element for the glazing. Adjacent the first profiled spacer, and attached to the glazing is the assembly adhesive bead. Optionally, a second spacer is provided also adjacent the adhesive bead for retaining the adhesive bead between the first and second spacers and for adding support.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1990Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Assignee: Saint Gobain Vitrage InternationalInventors: Heinz Kunert, Gerd Cornils, Heinrich Schnitter

Patent number: 5092087Abstract: A framework for supporting the glass panels of a skylight is formed of spacedrafters inter-connected by cross bars. The rafters have upstanding side flanges provided with pairs of transverse slots. The ends of the cross bars have pairs of outwardly extending headed members adapted to be engaged in the slots to locate the cross bars. The rafters have a ledge below each side flange upon which the bottom of a cross bar can rest. The cross bars are locked in place on the rafters by extending a pin from the cross bar to engage in a recess on the underside of the side flange. The recesses and ledges in the rafters form parts of gutters. A channel-like gutter is also provided on the sides of the cross bars so that condensation from the cross bars will flow into the channel gutters and then to the gutters in the rafters where it can flow to a collection point.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1990Date of Patent: March 3, 1992Assignee: SuperSkyInventors: Charles E.
